Bastar Olympics 2025 Kicks Off

  • Dy CM Vijay Sharma inaugurated the Bastar Olympics 2025 in the remote forest village of Kachchapal in Narayanpur district. Organised by the Chhattisgarh government, the event aims to promote traditional sports, identify sporting talent among tribal youth in the Maoist-affected Bastar region, and connect them to the national mainstream.
  • The Bastar Olympics is being held in three phases — at the block, district, and divisional levels — and has already witnessed massive participation. Over 3.8 lakh participants across Bastar division are taking part this year, including more than 47,000 from Narayanpur district alone.
  • The Bastar Olympics 2025 is being held from October 25 to November 30, featuring competitions in athletics, archery, badminton, football, karate, kabaddi, kho-kho, volleyball, tug-of-war, hockey, and weightlifting.
  • Events includes junior (14-17 years), senior (17+ years), differently-abled athletes, and even surrendered Naxalites, who will directly participate at the divisional level — making it a unique symbol of inclusion, peace, and transformation in Bastar.

Sinner Captures Second Vienna Title

  • World No. 2 Jannik Sinner continued his outstanding run this year, outclassing German star Alexander Zverev and claimed his second Vienna Open title.
  • He defeated Zverev 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 and reclaimed the crown he first won in 2023.

Sophie Devine Retires from ODIs

  • New Zealand cricket bid farewell to one of its greatest ambassadors as Sophie Devine walked out for the final time in international one-day cricket (ODI). The veteran all-rounder, who had already announced her decision to retire from ODIs before the tournament began, ended her career amid warm applause from teammates, opponents, and fans alike.

South Asian Athletics Championships 2025

  • India capped off a dominant campaign by finishing on top of the medal tally at the South Asian Athletics Championships 2025, which concluded in Ranchi.
  • The hosts topped the standings with 20 gold medals and an overall tally of 58 medals, which also included 20 silver and 18 bronze.
  • Sri Lanka followed with 16 gold and a total of 40 medals, while Nepal secured third place.
  • The fourth edition of the South Asian athletics competition featured around 300 athletes from six countries - India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and Maldives - in 37 medal events.

India Sweeps Kabaddi Gold at Asian Youth Games

  • India completed a dominant kabaddi double at the 2025 Asian Youth Games at Bahrain, with both Under-18 teams claiming gold medals while remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament. The girls' team demolished Iran 75-21 in the final, recording the largest victory margin in a Youth Games kabaddi final since 2013.
  • The boys' team secured a nail-biting 35-32 victory over Iran in the final.
  • This was the third edition of the Asian Youth Games.

India Re-elected as Vice-Chairperson of COP10 Bureau

  • India actively participated in the 10th Session of the Conference of Parties (COP10) to the International Convention against Doping in Sport, held in October 2025 at UNESCO Headquarters, Paris. The meeting marked the 20th anniversary of the Convention, which is the only legally binding international instrument committed to promoting integrity and eliminating doping in sport globally.
  • The Indian delegation, comprising Hari Ranjan Rao, Secretary (Sports), and Anant Kumar, Director General, National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA), engaged with delegates from over 190 States Parties, alongside representatives of the African Union, International Olympic Committee, World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), and other international organisations.
  • During the proceedings, India was re-elected as the Vice-Chairperson of the Bureau for the Asia-Pacific (Group IV) for the term 2025–2027. Azerbaijan was elected Chairperson of the COP10 Bureau. Brazil, Zambia, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia were also elected as Vice-Chairs for their respective regional groups.
  • India also extended in-kind support to the proceedings of the COP10 Session by facilitating provision of Interactive Boards displaying the journey of the Anti-Doping Convention.

India Unveils FIDE World Cup 2025 Logo and Anthem

  • Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant unveiled the official logo and anthem for the FIDE World Cup 2025 at a cultural ceremony in Panaji, Goa. This milestone not only brings global chess back to India after 23 years, but also sets the stage for an event that merges sport, culture, and national pride.
  • The newly launched logo encapsulates Goa's vibrant cultural identity and the strategic depth of chess through three trapezoidal panels,
  • Green panel: White palm tree over blue waves representing Goa's coastal beauty
  • Red panel: White checkerboard pattern symbolizing chess
  • Yellow panel: A stylized sun with curved rays denoting Goa's warmth and festive spirit
  • Complementing the visual identity is the anthem, titled 'It's Your Move', voiced by legendary singer Daler Mehndi.
