Shifting to 100% Wind Generation

Scottish Power has switched to 100% wind power, by selling off its last remaining gas power stations to Drax for more than £700m.
Iberdrola, Scottish Power's Spanish parent company, said the move was part of its strategy to tackle climate change and would free it up to invest in renewables and power grids in the UK.

Need to Limit Global Warming

As per a landmark UN report, a dire picture of the catastrophic consequences the world will face if immediate action is not taken to limit the global warming to 1.5°C, warning that at 2°C, the world could see 10 cm more global sea level rise, loss of all coral-reefs and worsening food shortages.
According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), far-reaching and unprecedented changes, such as ditching coal for electricity to slash carbon emissions are required to limit warming to 1.5°C.

New Species of lizards in Western Ghats

A team from Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) and Centre for Ecological Sciences, IISc, Bangalore has identified Montane forest lizard and Spiny-headed forest lizard during a revision of taxonomy of the lesser known agamid.
The discovery proves that Western Ghats is indeed a biodiversity hotspot.
The two reptiles had been wrongly identified under the genus Calotes (similar to the common garden lizards) for more than 150 years.

South Africa's New Jurassic Giant

A new species of a giant dinosaur has been found in South Africa's Free State Province. The plant-eating dinosaur, named Ledumahadi mafube, weighed 12 tonnes and stood about four meters high at the hips. Ledumahadi mafube was the largest land animal alive on Earth when it lived, nearly 200 million years ago. It was roughly double the size of a large African elephant.
