UK PM Boris Johnson Steps Down after Series of Ministerial Exits

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced his resignation as Conservative Party leader after he was abandoned by his close allies in the wake of a series of scandals that rocked his government, triggering a leadership election for a new Tory leader.
Johnson would remain in charge at 10, Downing Street, until the process of electing a new leader is completed, expected in October when the Conservative Party conference is scheduled.

India Elected to UNESCO Panel on Intangible Cultural Heritage

India was elected to the Intergovernmental Committee of UNESCO's 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) for the 2022-2026 cycle.
India has served as a member of the ICH Committee twice, from 2006 to 2010 and from 2014 to 2018.
Union Culture and Tourism Minister G. Kishan Reddy said that as the nation celebrates Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, India will be a part of two prominent Committees of UNESCO — Intangible Cultural Heritage (2022-2026) and World Heritage (2021-2025).
India received 110 votes from the 155 State Parties that were present and voting.

India's Lieutenant General Mohan Subramanian Appointed Force Commander of UN in South Sudan

India's Lieutenant General Mohan Subramanian was appointed the Force Commander in the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).
Subramanian succeeded Lieutenant General Shailesh Tinaikar of India.
Almost 20,000 peacekeepers serve with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan to protect civilians and build durable peace in the conflict-affected country.
Lieutenant General Subramanian has a distinguished military career with the Indian Army spanning over 36 years. He served as the General Officer Commanding, Military Region (Operational and Logistic Readiness Zone) in central India, contributing to the Army's operational and logistic preparedness.

S. Jaishankar to Attend the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Indonesia

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will be visiting Bali, Indonesia on July 7 and 8 to participate in the G20 Foreign Ministers' meeting.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia is holding a meeting within the framework of Indonesia G20 Presidency. At the Bali meeting, participating Foreign Ministers will "deliberate on issues of contemporary relevance, such as strengthening multilateralism and current global challenges including food and energy security.
G-20 members represent more than 80 per cent of world GDP, 75 per cent of international trade and 60 per cent of the world population.

India, Armenia Sign MoU on High Impact Community Development Projects in Armenia

India and Armenia signed a Memorandum of Understanding on High Impact Community Development Projects in Armenia with financial and technical assistance from India.
The MoU was signed at the 8th India-Armenia Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technological, Cultural and Educational Cooperation (IGC) held in Yerevan.
Secretary (West) Ministry of External Affairs, Sanjay Verma led the Indian delegation. The Armenian delegation was led by the Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.

Finland, Sweden Sign Protocol to Join NATO but Still Need Ratification

NATO's 30 allies signed an accession protocol for Finland and Sweden to allow them to join the nuclear-armed alliance once allied parliaments ratify the decision, the most significant expansion of the alliance since the mid-1990s.
The protocol means Helsinki and Stockholm can participate in NATO meetings and have greater access to intelligence but will not be protected by the NATO defence clause that an attack on one ally is an attack against all until ratification. That is likely to take up to a year.

T. Raja Kumar, the New Chief of Global Terror Financing Watchdog FATF

The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) announced that Singaporean T. Raja Kumar took over as the president of the anti-money laundering watchdog.
Raja Kumar succeeded Dr. Marcus Pleyer as the chief of the FATF and would serve a two-year-term.
Kumar would focus on enhancing the effectiveness of global anti-money laundering & counter-terrorist financing measures, improving asset recovery and other initiatives.
Raja Kumar holds an LLB (Hons.) degree from the National University of Singapore, and a Master of Philosophy (Criminology & Law) from Cambridge University. Kumar also attended the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University in 2006.

Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Takes Oath as Philippine President

Ferdinand Marcos Jr, commonly referred to as Bongbong Marcos, the son of late dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr, won the elections with 31.6 million votes and was swore as the 17th President of the Philippines. He took the oath at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Manila before the Supreme Court Justice, Alexander Gesmundo. The former President's daughter and his running mate, Sara Duterte Carpio, swore as vice president. The two would be serving the nation until 2028.
Marcos Jr. is more popularly known as "Bongbong" in the country and won on the platform of national unity, promising more jobs, lowering prices, and increasing investment in agriculture and infrastructure.
