R. Ashwin Becomes 1st Bowler to Dismiss Left-handers 200 Times in Tests

Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin became the first player in the 143-year history of Test cricket to take 200 wickets against left-handed batsmen.
He achieved the feat during the second day of India's second Test against England here at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, his home ground.
Fast bowler Stuart Broad was the 200th left-hander to be dismissed by Ashwin.
Ashwin has picked 391 wickets in his career so far and 51.2 percent of his scalps have come against left-handers. His bowling average against left-handers is 19.55 and 31.24 against right-handed batsmen.

Priyanka Goswami Shatters National Record in Women's 20 km Walk

Three Indian race walkers qualified for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics during the National Open Race Walking Championships, with Sandeep Kumar and Priyanka Goswami shattering national records in the men's and women's 20 km events respectively.
The National Open Race Walking Championships are the first major athletics event after the end of a COVID-19 lockdown, which had caused the entire domestic calendar to be wiped out last season.
With the three new entrants, the total number of Indian race walkers who have qualified for the Tokyo Games has swelled to five as KT Irfan (men's 20 km) and Bhawana Jat (women's 20 km) have already made the cut earlier.

Ashwin Becomes Second Highest Wicket-taker in Tests in India

Senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin surpassed Harbhajan Singh to become the second highest wicket-taker in Tests played in India.
Ashwin got past Harbhajan, who took 265 wickets at an average of 28.76, by dismissing Ben Stokes with a perfect off-spinner on the second day of the second Test against England here. Ashwin's average is 22.67.
Spin legend Anil Kumble is the leading wicket-taker in India with 350 scalps at 24.88. He is also India's leading wicket-takers in tests with 619 scalps to his game.
Harbhajan is third in the standings with 417 wickets and Ashwin, who is inching towards the 400-wicket mark, is fourth. The legendary Kapil Dev is second with 434 wickets.

Rohan Bopanna and Ben McLachlan Out at Australian Open

India endured a second successive disappointing result at the Australian Open with Rohan Bopanna and Ben McLachlan bowing out after a close opening-round defeat to Ji Sung Nam and Min-Kyu Song in the men's doubles event, in Melbourne.
Bopanna and his Japanese partner lost 4-6 6-7(0) to the Korean wild card pair in one hour and 17 minutes.
Not having enough court time due to hard quarantine seemed to have an effect on Bopanna's sharpness. McLachlan, on his part, struggled to negotiate volleys and that hurt them.

IPL 2021: Sanjay Bangar Joins Royal Challengers Bangalore as Batting Consultant

Sanjay Bangar, the former batting coach of the Indian cricket team is headed to Royal Challengers Bangalore, where he will be taking up the role of a batting consultant. The development was confirmed by the franchise. Bangar will join the coaching staff, which includes Simon Katich as the head coach and Mike Hesson, serving as director of operations.
Bangar joined India as their batting coach in 2014 and was at the helm until the World Cup 2019, after which Vikram Rathour took over. In the IPL, Bangar has previously worked with Kings XI Punjab, joining the franchise as assistant coach before taking over as the head coach. He separated ways with KXIP after the 2017 season.

Pant Wins Inaugural ICC Player of the Month January 2021

India's wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant became the first winner of the inaugural ICC Player of the Month award. The ICC announced the list of winners through their official Twitter handle.
These awards recognise the best performances from both male and female cricketers across all forms of international cricket throughout the year.
Pant won the Player of the Month for January 2021 for his spectacular performances in the two Tests against Australia. He smashed 97 at Sydney and an unbeaten 89 at Brisbane that led India to a noteworthy series win.
