Odisha to Sponsor Hockey India Till 2036

The Odisha government announced the extension of its sponsorship for Hockey India until 2036 – a year that marks the centenary of the state's formation in 1936.
The decision was taken after a Hockey India delegation met new Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi in Bhubaneswar.
Hockey India Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh said that the state government has consistently been a pillar of strength for the sport. "The decision to consider extending our partnership until 2036 underscores their dedication to sports and youth development," he said.

Justin Sammons New Head Coach of Zimbabwe's Men's Cricket Team

Zimbabwe Cricket appointed South African Justin Sammons as its new men's head coach.
Sammons was a former batting coach with his home country's national team, the Proteas.
Dave Houghton resigned as Zimbabwe's head coach last year (2023) after the country failed to qualify for the ongoing Twenty20 World Cup in the US and West Indies.
Sammons will lead Zimbabwe for the first time in a five-match T20 series against India in Zimbabwe.
Dion Ebrahim, a former Zimbabwe batter, is Sammons' assistant coach. Ebrahim represented Zimbabwe in 29 tests and 82 ODIs between 2001 and 2005, and has been a part of the coaching staff with the New Zealand senior men's team.

Pat Cummins Becomes Second Australian to Claim a T20 World Cup Hattrick

Australia's Test and ODI captain Pat Cummins created history during his side's Super 8 clash versus Bangladesh by becoming only the second Aussie, after Brett Lee, to claim a T20 World Cup hattrick. Cummins achieved the feat during the first ball of the last over after dismissing Towhid Hridoy. In his previous over, he had removed the likes of Mahmudullah and Mehedi Hasan on the last two deliveries. Riding on his 3 for 29, Australia restricted Bangladesh for 140/8 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua on June 20. Overall, he became the fourth Australian with a hattrick in the format.

Suryakumar Yadav Retains His Spot as Top-ranked Batter in T20s

Australia's Marcus Stoinis toppled Afghanistan's Mohammad Nabi as the number one all-rounder in the latest ICC T20 rankings.
Stoinis snared six wickets and also made valuable contribution with the bat to help Australia cruise to the Super Eights in the ongoing T20 World Cup.
While Stoinis climbed a spot and becsme the premier all-rounder, Nabi dropped three places with Sri Lanka skipper Wanindu Hasaranga and Bangladesh veteran Shakib Al Hasan also rising to the second and third spots, respectively.
India's Suryakumar Yadav retained his spot as the top-ranked batter in the shortest format while Phil Salt, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan are static at second, third and fourth places, respectively.

Indian National Ultimate Frisbee Team Wins Silver at 2024 Asia Oceanic Championship in Japan

The Indian National Ultimate Frisbee team put up a valiant effort in the final of the Asia Oceanic Beach Ultimate Championships (AOBUC) 2024, and finished as runners-up after a hard-fought match against the Philippines with a final score of 9-12. This marked a historic milestone for Indian Ultimate Frisbee as the national team reached the final for the first time, demonstrating significant growth and potential on the international stage. The tournament featured 16 teams from across Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.
The Indian team's path to the final was highlighted by a remarkable victory over Japan in the semi-finals.

New Zealand cricket team skipper Kane Williamson stepped down from his role with immediate effect after his side exited the T20 World Cup 2024 in the group stage. Williamson, regarded as one of the greatest players in the New Zealand men's cricket history also denied a central contract for the 2024-25 season. New Zealand lost to Afghanistan and co-hosts West Indies in the group stage of the T20 World Cup which saw them pack their bags early from the competition.

Arjun beat Russia's Volodar Murzin with white pieces in 63 moves and ended the penultimate round (eight) with six points, a full 1.5 points ahead of the three-player deadlock on second position with 4.5 points.

Neeraj Chopra after taking a precautionary break due to a strain in his adductor, the Olympic champion returned to competition at the 2024 Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku, Finland. This is Neeraj's third event of 2024 as he rebuilds his form and fitness ahead of the all-important title defence at the Paris Olympics.
Neeraj will be up against a properly stacked field that looks like:
Max Dehning: The teenage German sensation who recently became the youngest to cross the coveted 90m mark.
Arshad Nadeem: Neeraj's good friend and his strongest rival in Asia. Neeraj had beaten Nadeem at the 2023 Worlds and the Pakistani thrower, who has also gone past the 90m mark, is making a comeback from a knee injury.

Oliver Helander: The local favourite, Helander will look to win the title at home for the second time in three years. He'd beaten Neeraj to the trophy in 2022.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) named Gudakesh Motie of the West Indies as the ICC Men's Player of the Month for May 2024. The left-arm spinner played a pivotal role in the West Indies' impressive series win over touring South Africa, providing a promising build-up to the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024.
In the women's category, Chamari Athapaththu of Sri Lanka was named the ICC Women's Player of the Month for May 2024. The Sri Lankan captain's outstanding performances propelled her team to qualify for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024 in Bangladesh later this year (2024).

Estonia's Sahil Chauhan Scores Fastest Century in T20Is

Estonia's Sahil Chauhan smashed the fastest century in T20Is, off just 27 balls, breaking Namibia batter Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton record of 33 balls.
Chauhan smashed 144 not out in 41 balls, hitting 18 sixes and six fours against Cyprus on Monday (June 17). His 27-ball ton is also the fastest in all T20s - going past Chris Gayle's 30-ball hundred for Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Pune Warriors India in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2013.
Chahan's 18 sixes is also the most by an individual in a men's T20I, surpassing Afghanistan's Hazratullah Zazai's 16 sixes against Ireland in 2019.

Jayson Tatum Leads Boston Celtics to Clinch Record-breaking 18th NBA Title

Boston Celtics clinched a record-breaking 18th NBA Championship after they beat the Dallas Mavericks 4-1 in the best-of-seven finals. The win now sees them stand on top with the most titles in the NBA history having leapfrogged arch-rivals Los Angeles Lakers. Jayson Tatum was the hero of the hour for Celtics having produced a 31-point display in the fifth round of finals to lead his side to the title. The cruising win came just four days after the Mavericks had won in a 38-point drubbing in game four.
