Astronomers have set a new distance record by unveiling the farthest galaxy, which may be over 13 billion years old.
An international team has pushed back the cosmic frontier of galaxy exploration to a time when the universe was only 5 percent of its present age, and discovered an exceptionally luminous galaxy, EGS-zs8-1.
The team determined its exact distance from Earth using the powerful MOSFIRE instrument on the W.M. Keck Observatory`s 10-meter telescope in Hawaii. It is the most distant galaxy currently measured.

NASA Records ''Alien Sounds'' Above Earth
Ultra-sensitive microphones aboard a NASA student balloon, floating at the edge of space has captured infrasonic sounds whose source has not been ascertained as yet.
Theories for the sounds range from wind in the balloon`s path, to ocean waves, gravity waves and clear air turbulence. Others suggest the noises may be coming from movements from the balloon cable.
A NASA-backed project now plans to send another payload to record more of these strange noises later this year.

Hack 'Pager' Turns Your Facebook Page into Full-fledged Website
Now, a new hack will help small business owners convert their Facebook page into a traditional website within minutes.
Pager, developed during the 24-hour Disrupt NY Hackathon by a team of three engineers, is very simple. Users just have to log in using their Facebook account and they are presented with a list of their Facebook pages. After selecting a page, the website goes live automatically.
The hack sorts all the information on the user's Facebook page into four categories- About, News, Events and Galleries.

NASA Ropes in Small Businesses to Further Mars Journey
The US space agency has selected proposals from 254 small businesses and 39 research institutions in the US for grants to develop new technologies that will further NASA's journey to Mars.
The proposals are solicited, vetted and managed through NASA's Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programmes.
Proposals that lead to the successful development of ideas and products could result in contracts with a combined approximate value of $47.7 million.
NASA is funding proposals that will enable space transportation for human and robotic missions, new ways to protect astronauts in space, and innovative ways to keep spacecraft systems operational -- technologies that may, one day, find their way into the vehicles and systems used to explore the solar system.

Tiny Dinosaur Fossil discovered in China
The fossil of a bizarre pigeon-sized dinosaur that had bat-like wings made of skin rather than feathers has been identified in China, shedding new light on the evolution of flight.
The dinosaur — named Yi qi — the shortest name ever given to a dino, which means “strange wing”.
At 160-million-years old, the dinosaur is older than the first known birds, such as Archaeopteryx. It also appears to be the earliest known flying non-avian dinosaur.
