China has launched its quantum satellite, the first in the world.
It is nicknamed 'Micius', the satellite will circle the Earth once every 90 minutes after it enters a sun-synchronous orbit at an altitude of 500 km.
In its two-year mission, QUESS is designed to establish "hack-proof" quantum communications by transmitting uncrackable keys from space to the ground, and provide insights into the strangest phenomenon in quantum physics -- quantum entanglement.

Longest-Lived Vertebrate on Earth
As per a new study, the Greenland shark is the longest-lived vertebrate on the planet.
The animal, native to the cold, deep waters of the North Atlantic, can live to at least 272 years, and possibly to the ripe old age of 500.
Some research had suggested they grow extremely slowly, less than half an inch per year, suggesting a life span well beyond those of other vertebrates.

Flooded Canyons on Titan Discovered
NASA’s Saturn probe spacecraft has discovered deep, steep-sided canyons on Saturn's moon Titan that are flooded with liquid hydrocarbons, spotted by Cassini.
It is the first direct evidence of the existence of liquid-filled channels on Titan, as well as the first observation of canyons hundreds of meters deep.

‘Blue Whirl' Flame Discovered
Scientists have discovered a new fire, which shares the same 'whirling' characteristic of a tornado.
Known as the 'blue whirl' flame (because it lacks the yellow colour of traditional flames), instead of being destructive, could lead to cleaner ways of burning fuel, as well as helping in the clean-up of oil spills.
