France has opened what it claims to be the world’s first solar panel road.
A 1km (0.6-mile) route covered with 2,800 sq m of electricity-generating panels was inaugurated.
It cost €5m (£4.2m) to construct and will be used by about 2,000 motorists a day during a two-year test period to establish if it can generate enough energy to power street lighting in the village of 3,400 residents.

First Biological Pacemaker Developed
Scientists have developed the first functional pacemaker cells from human stem cells which can regulate heart beats with electrical impulses.
The findings show how human pluripotent stem cells can be coaxed in 21 days to develop into pacemaker cells.
These human pacemaker cells were tested in rat hearts and were shown to function as a biological pacemaker, by activating the electrical impulses that trigger the contraction of the heart.
