Anirudh Tiwari is New Punjab Chief Secretary

  • The new political dispensation in Punjab, headed by Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, has chosen Anirudh Tiwari as the new Chief Secretary. He was serving as the Additional Chief Secretary, Development.
  • Tiwari replaces Vini Mahajan, handpicked by former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh in June 2020. Mahajan was the first woman to be appointed to the post.

Former Nagaland Governor R. N. Ravi Resigns as Centre's Interlocutor for Naga Peace Talks

  • Former Nagaland Governor R. N. Ravi resigned as the Centre's interlocutor for Naga peace talks.
  • The Ministry of Home Affairs accepted his resignation with immediate effect.
  • Ravi currently serves as the Governor of Tamil Nadu.
  • Ravi was leading the peace negotiations with the Nagaland insurgent group NSCN-IM since 2014. He continued his role as the interlocutor even after he was appointed the governor of Nagaland in July 2019.

UP Elections 2022: BJP to Contest in Alliance with Nishad Party, Apna Dal

  • The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will be contesting the upcoming Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh in alliance with Nishad Party and Apna Dal, BJP's UP election in-charge Dharmendra Pradhan announced.
  • Uttar Pradesh BJP chief Swatantra Dev Singh said that the election will be fought under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Rajiv Bansal Appointed Aviation Secretary

  • Air India Chairman Rajiv Bansal has been appointed as the new aviation secretary as part of a major top-level bureaucratic reshuffle effected by the Centre.
  • K. Rajaraman, Additional Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, has been appointed as Secretary, Department of Telecommunications.
  • Rajaraman will take over the charge from Anshu Prakash who is due to superannuate on September 30.
  • Bansal, a 1988 batch lAS officer of Nagaland cadre, will replace Pradeep Singh Kharola, upon his retirement this month-end.

Isha Kalia is New Mohali DC

  • Isha Kalia, a 2009-batch IAS officer, was appointed the new Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Mohali.
  • Prior to this, Kalia was posted as the director general school education (DGSE). She has also served as special secretary, department of health and family welfare, and as the Deputy Commissioner of Hoshiarpur, Fazilka, and Bathinda and special secretary, water supply and sanitation, and additional chief executive officer, Punjab bureau of investment promotion, and member secretary, Punjab state women commission.

BJP Prevails over AINRC, Nominates S. Selvaganapathy for RS Seat

  • The BJP prevailed over its alliance partner AINRC and nominated S. Selvaganapathy as its Rajya Sabha candidate from Puducherry.
  • As per reports, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy was pushing hard for his close aide and former Health Minister Malladi Krishna Rao for the post. However, the BJP top brass was firm on nominating Selvaganapathy.
  • A former nominated MLA, Selvaganapathy runs a popular private school in the Union Territory and has an RSS background. He is also serving as the treasurer of the BJP local unit.
  • The election to the lone Rajya Sabha seat in Puducherry takes place on October 4. The term of incumbent AIADMK candidate N. Gokulakrishnan ends on October 6.

Assam Foreigners' Tribunal Says NRC is Final

  • The National Register of Citizens (NRC) published on August 31, 2019 is the "Final NRC", ruled a Foreigners' Tribunal (FT) in Assam, even as the Registrar General of India is yet to notify it.
  • Declaring a man Indian citizen, the tribunal in Karimganj district held that though National Identity Cards are yet to be issued, but there is no doubt that this NRC Assam published in 2019 is nothing but Final NRC".
  • The ruling was given by Sishir Dey, member (attached), FT-II, Karimganj in a 'D voter' (doubtful voter) case against one Bikram Singha of Jamirala village in the Patherkandi police station area of the district.
