Bengaluru to Get India's Largest Circular Railway, Spanning 287 Kilometres

  • Bengaluru, the bustling IT hub of India, is poised to witness a groundbreaking development in its transportation infrastructure with the announcement of a 287-km circular railway. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw disclosed this ambitious project during a comprehensive review of railway projects in Bengaluru.
  • The circular railway seeks to link key towns around Bengaluru, forming India's most extensive network. It transcends current needs, envisioning a transportation solution for the next 40-50 years. In tandem with the Bengaluru Suburban Railway Project (BSRP), it emerges as the ultimate response to the city's evolving transport demands.

Uttarakhand Tunnel Rescue

  • The 400-hour Uttarakhand tunnel rescue operation in India ended with emotional tears and smiles, as the 41 workers, who were trapped in the Silkyara Tunnel, emerged alive and safe from the dark hole.
  • But the first ones to greet these trapped but hopeful workers were the rat-hole miners who had been drilling for long with their hands with the aim of safely evacuating the trapped workers from the tunnel.
  • The banned practice of rat-hole mining was adopted by the rescuers after an imported, high-tech drilling machine stopped working in the last leg of the operation. Then, the miners started manually drilling their way towards the trapped workers.

Social Worker Walks Over 17,000 km to Spread Awareness on Blood Donation

  • A Delhi-based social worker is undertaking a 21,000 km-journey on foot to spread awareness on blood donation.
  • Kiran Verma started his journey from Kerala capital Thiruvananthapuram on December 28, 2021 and so far, he has covered 17,700 km, and reached the north-eastern state of Nagaland.
  • Verma, in a statement issued, said that his mission is to spread awareness on the importance of blood donation so that nobody dies for want of blood.
  • Verma has covered 229 districts across 17 states and Union territories to reach Kohima.
  • Verma has founded 'Change With One Foundation', under which he runs two programmes 'Simply Blood' and 'Change With One Meal'.
  • He claimed 'Simply Blood', launched on January 29, 2017, is the world's first virtual blood donation platform, connecting donors and seekers in real time free of any charge.
  • Under 'Change With One Meal', unlimited meals are served to anyone at Rs. 10.

  • India Disputes Conference 2023 to be hosted in Mumbai by Thought Leaders4 Disputes on December 1-2.
  • Former Supreme Court judge, Justice L. Nageswara Rao will be attending the event as the chief guest of honour.
  • Other dignitaries slated to attend include advisory board members such as Tariq Khan (IAMC Hyderabad), Ritin Rai SA (7KBW), Priyank Srivastava (Duane Morris & Selvam LLP), Sushmita Gandhi (IndusLaw), Marc Keidan (Keidan Harrison), and Prashan Patel (Grant Thornton).
  • The conference aims to bring together legal minds from diverse backgrounds, offering a wide spectrum of sessions encompassing various practice areas and sectors under the broad umbrella of litigation, arbitration, and alternative dispute resolution (ADR).

Centre Renames Ayushman Bharat Health and Wellness Centres as 'Ayushman Arogya Mandir'

  • The Ayushman Bharat-Health and Wellness Centres will now be called as 'Ayushman Arogya Mandir' and the Union Health Ministry has sent a letter to the states and Union territories to implement the rebranding exercise.
  • States were also been asked to upload photographs of rebranded primary health facilities on the Ayushman Bharat-Health and Wellness Centres (AB-HWC) portal.
  • The rebranded AB-HWCs also got a new tagline 'Arogyam Parmam Dhanam'.

Robert Shetkintong is High Commissioner of India to Republic of Mozambique

  • Robert Shetkintong, a 2001-batch IFS officer, was appointed the next High Commissioner of India to the Republic of Mozambique.
  • Shetkintong is presently serving as the Ambassador of India to Ethiopia. He took up the assignment to Ethiopia in 2020.

President Droupadi Murmu Unveils Statue of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar in Supreme Court

  • President of India Droupadi Murmu unveiled a statue of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar at the Supreme Court of India.
  • The statue was unveiled on the occasion of Constitution Day in the presence of Chief Justice of India D. Y. Chandrachud, Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal and other dignitaries.
  • The decision to erect the statue of Dr. Ambedkar stemmed from the request made by a group of lawyers who identify with the Ambedkarite movement.

  • Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar inaugurated 'Global Professional Accountants Convention' (GloPAC) in Gujarat capital Gandhinagar.
  • The three-day convention was organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).
  • Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and president of the International Federation of Accountants Asmaa Resmouki also attended the inaugural ceremony.

  • Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India, inaugurated the 8th Edition of the India Water Impact Summit (IWIS), at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi. The summit was organised by the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) and the Centre for Ganga River Basin Management and Studies (cGanga).
  • The theme of IWIS 2023 is 'Development vis-à-vis Land, Water and Rivers,' aimed at uniting scientific experts, stakeholders, and government representatives to address dynamic challenges and opportunities in India's water sector.

  • In a move towards transforming India's mapping ecosystem, Genesys International, a leading 3D mapping company announced a strategic tie-up with Survey of India (SOI), the country's national surveying and mapping authority.
  • Aligned with India's National Geospatial Policy 2022, which emphasises self-reliance in geospatial data production and usage, the partnership aims to create digital twins of major cities and towns.
  • The collaboration introduces the India Map Stack initiative, a fusion of Genesys' mapping expertise and SOI's technical infrastructure.
  • This initiative will provide previously unavailable data layers, including high-precision 3D data, digital terrain models (DTMs), digital surface models (DSMs), and orthoimagery.
