A plant at the industrial port of Tuticorin is capturing CO2 from its own coal-powered boiler and using it to make soda ash – aka baking powder.
The firm behind the Tuticorin process says its chemicals will lock up 60,000 tonnes of CO2 a year.
Debate over carbon capture has mostly focused until now on carbon capture and storage.
The Tuticorin plant is said to be the first industrial scale example of carbon capture and utilisation.

As per a study, the cheetah is nearing extinction. Due to its dramatic fall in number, very soon it shall be listed in the endangered species category.
Unfortunately it faces persecution rampantly both inside and outside of the protected areas which remain largely unrecognized.
It is estimated that the number of cheetahs left in the wild today to be just 7,100.

The detected ammonia was most concentrated in the upper layer of the troposphere above India and China, countries that have experienced population and economic booms in recent years.

Drilling in Arctic and Atlantic Oceans Banned
Barack Obama has banned future oil and gas drilling in most of the Arctic and Atlantic Oceans.
Using his authority under the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act that allow Presidents to withdraw areas from oil and gas leasing and exploration, Obama has protected the entire US Chukchi Sea and the vast majority of the US Beaufort Sea in the Arctic Ocean and 31 canyons in the Atlantic Ocean from drilling.
