Anish Bhanwala Wins 25m Rapid Fire Bronze at World Cup Final

Anish Bhanwala won the bronze medal in the men's 25 m Rapid Fire final at the ISSF World Cup final in Doha.
Bhanwala became the first Indian shooter to win a medal in the event in the World Cup Final. Earlier Vijay Kumar had reached the final in 2009, while Gurpreet Singh had reached the final in 2015.

Bengaluru Hosts Namma Kambala

Kambala, the popular buffalo racing contest native to the coastal Karnataka region was held in Bengaluru. The traditional folk sport, usually held in the aftermath of the southwest monsoon, unfolded its excitement at the iconic Palace Grounds. Organised by Tulukoota Bengaluru, this is the first time Kambala found a venue in the heart of Bengaluru.
Kambala is a sport where buffaloes are driven through a slushy paddy field by a whip-wielding farmer.
In its traditional form, Kambala was non-competitive, with pairs running one by one. However, modern Kambala involves contests between two pairs of buffaloes.

ICC Bans Transgender Players from International Women's Cricket

In a significant policy decision, the International Cricket Council (ICC) implemented a ban on transgender cricketers from participating in international women's cricket at the highest level. This decision has raised discussions around inclusivity, athlete rights and the impact of the ban on transgender individuals. The move is said to be in alignment with the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) guidelines, considering cricket's inclusion in the 2028 Olympics.
The decision came on the heels of controversary sparked by Canada's Danielle McGahey, who became the first transgender cricketer to participate in an official international match just two months ago. The 29-year-old opening batter played in all six of Canada's matches during the Women's T20 World Cup Americans region qualifiers event in Los Angeles. Under the previous ICC regulations, which focused on reducing testosterone levels, McGahey met all eligibility criteria. However, the new rules prioritise the protection of the women's game's integrity, safety, fairness and inclusion.

Anahat Singh Becomes Second Youngest to Win National Squash Championship Title

Velavan Senthilkumar (Tamil Nadu) and Anahat Singh (Delhi) won their maiden men's and women's titles, respectively in the 79th National Squash Championships at the Indian Squash and Triathlon Academy (ISTA), Chennai.
The 15-year-old Anahat became the second youngest ever to have won the women's title. Joshna Chinappa was 14 when she won the first of her 19 titles in 2000.

Marlon Samuels, Former West Indies Player, Receives 6-year Ban

Marlon Samuels, the former West Indies batter, was handed a six-year ban from all forms of cricket by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The ban was imposed due to his failure to disclose benefits received during the Abu Dhabi T10 league, actions that could have brought the sport into disrepute, concealing information, and non-cooperation with the investigation officer.

Max Verstappen Wins the Las Vegas Grand Prix 2023

Max Verstappen emerged on top at the end of an action-packed Las Vegas Grand Prix, beating Ferrari rival Charles Leclerc and Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez. Max Emilian Verstappen is a Belgian and Dutch racing driver and the 2021, 2022, and 2023 Formula One World Champion. Ferrari's Leclerc passed Sergio Perez on the final lap to clinch second place, while British star Lando Norris ended up in hospital after a third-lap 180mph crash. Lewis Hamilton finished seventh.

Pankaj Advani Wins World Billiards Championship for Record 26th Time

Indian cueist Pankaj Advani secured his 26th IBSF World Billiards Championship title in a remarkable comeback, defeating compatriot Sourav Kothari in the final.
The match saw both players engaging in a back-and-forth battle, with Kothari allowed Advani to recover and take control of the game. Advani's break of 214, the highest of the match, proved to be a turning point, making him look unstoppable. His consistent performance and a series of breaks, including a crucial unfinished break of 199, secured the title for Advani.

Sri Lanka Loses Hosting Rights for 2024 U-19 World Cup

Sri Lanka cricket was handed a major jolt after the International Cricket Council (ICC) stripped it of the rights to host the U-19 World Cup in 2024. Already under the scanner after being sanctioned by the ICC for government involvement in the board operations, this is a major setback for the board. However, in some relief, they will still continue to participate in the ICC tournaments and also play scheduled bilateral series.
The ICC moved the men's U-19 World Cup 2024 from Sri Lanka to South Africa, 11 days after the world governing body provisionally suspended the island nation's cricket board due to government interference.

Shooting World Cup: Divya Finishes 7th, Esha 13th in 10m Air Pistol Final

India's Divya T.S. finished 7th and Esha Singh 13th in the women's 10m air pistol final during the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup final at Lusail Shooting range in Doha.
In men's air pistol, the lone Indian entrant, Sarabjot Singh shot 581 and missed the final by one point.
All three podium spots were taken by athletes hailing from China. Li Xue won the gold medal, Zhao Nan clinched silver while the reigning world champions Jiang Ranxin took bronze.

ICC Approves Changes to Pitch and Outfield Monitoring; Start Stop Clock Trial

The International Cricket Council, which is the global governing body of cricket, has decided to implement a new rule to regulate the time taken between overs in men's ODI and T20I cricket. According to the new rule, a five-run penalty will be imposed the third time a bowling team fails to be ready to bowl the next over within 60 seconds of completing the previous one. The match officials will have a stop-clock to check the time taken between overs.
The new rule will be in force from December 2023 to April 2024 on a trial basis. "This move is part of a broader effort to improve the pace of the game and enhance the spectator experience.
