The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) encountered an unexpected challenge in positioning the NVS-02 satellite into its designated orbit due to a valve malfunction.
The satellite, which is the second in the NVS series, was successfully launched on January 29 as part of ISRO's historic 100th mission from Sriharikota.
Following the launch, ISRO intended to perform orbit-raising manoeuvres to transition the satellite to its final orbital slot. However, the space agency revealed that the valves responsible for admitting the oxidiser to fire the thrusters did not function as expected, preventing the necessary orbit adjustments.

China Astronauts Generate Rocket Fuel, Oxygen in Space Using Artificial Photosynthesis
China's Shenzhou-19 crew aboard the Tiangong space station created oxygen and ingredients for rocket fuel for the first time with the help of "artificial photosynthesis" technology.
The crew successfully conducted maiden in-orbit demonstration of the technology, thereby paving the way for future exploration of space, including crewed moon landing before 2030.

Shubhanshu Shukla: India's First Astronaut to Pilot Axiom-4 to ISS
India's space exploration just reached a new milestone with Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla set to become the first Indian astronaut to pilot a space mission to the International Space Station (ISS). He was chosen as the pilot for Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4), a private spaceflight scheduled for launch in the spring of 2025. This marks a significant moment in India's space history, continuing the journey that started 40 years ago with Rakesh Sharma's iconic spaceflight.
Axiom Mission 4, or Ax-4, is a private spaceflight organized by Axiom Space in collaboration with NASA. The mission will see astronauts travel to the International Space Station for a stay of up to 14 days. The astronauts will conduct scientific research, engage in educational outreach, and take part in various commercial activities while in a microgravity environment.
The crew of Ax-4 consists of four astronauts, each bringing unique experience and expertise to the mission:
Peggy Whitson: Former NASA astronaut, serving as the mission commander.
Shubhanshu Shukla: Indian Air Force pilot and mission pilot, making history as India's first astronaut to pilot a mission to the ISS.
Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski: Polish astronaut and mission specialist.
Tibor Kapu: Hungarian astronaut and mission specialist.

ISRO's 100th Mission
A GSLV rocket carrying navigation satellite NVS-02 lifted off, marking ISRO's 100th mission. The mission was also the first for the space agency's Chairman V. Narayanan, who assumed office. It is ISRO's maiden venture this year.
The key applications of the satellite would be terrestrial, aerial and maritime navigation, precision agriculture, fleet management, location based services in mobile devices, orbit determination for satellites, Internet-of-Things (IoT) based applications, emergency and timing services
