Joe Root Becomes first Batsman to Score 200 in 100th Test
Joe Root, the England captain, became the first player in history to score a double century in his 100th Test match. Root, batted on against India on Day 2 in Chennai and notched up the fifth double century of his career – second in three Tests.
In the process, Root also surpassed former Pakistan captain Inzamam-Ul-Haq as the player with the highest individual score playing the 100th Test match of his career. Inzamam had hit 184 against India in a Test match in Bengaluru in 2005, which Pakistan had won by 168 runs. His record stood for 15 years before being broken by Root.
Lewis Hamilton Signs New One Year Contract with Mercedes
Lewis Hamilton has signed a new one-year contract with Mercedes, which will see the seven-time reigning world champion associated with the team for 2021.
Hamilton said that our team has achieved incredible things together, and we look forward to building on our success even further, while continuously looking to improve, both on and off the track.
Hamilton will partner Valtteri Bottas, whose one-year deal extension was announced last August, for a fifth successive campaign.

Ankita Fifth Indian Woman in Main Draw
Ankita Raina has become only the fifth Indian woman in the Open era to secure a place in the main draw of a Grand Slam as she made the cut for the women's doubles event of the Australian Open.
After missing out on the singles main draw, the 28-year-old realised her long-time dream when she signed up with Romania's Mihaela Buzarnecu and earned a direct entry. Nirupama Mankad (1971), Nirupama Vaidyanathan (1998), Sania Mirza and Indian-American Shikha Uberoi (2004) have competed in the Grand Slam main draws.
India's Tennis Legend Akhtar Ali Passes Away
India's celebrated tennis player and legendary coach Akhtar Ali died. Born on July 5, 1939, Ali was a member of the Indian Davis Cup team continuously from 1958 to 1964.
A member of India's Davis Cup teams from the late 1950s to the mid 1960s, Ali held an enviable 9-2 win-loss record in the tourney -- rated as the World Cup of the sport.
Proficient in both singles and doubles, he played alongside the country's legends like Ramanathan Krishnan, Naresh Kumar, Premjit Lall and Jaidip Mukerjea.

Naomi Osaka, Victoria Azarenka Withdraw from Australian Open Warm-up Tournaments
World No. 3 and former Australian Open champion Naomi Osaka has pulled out from the semi-finals of Gippsland Trophy, a warm-up tournament in the lead up to the season's first Grand Slam with an unspecified niggle. World No. 13 Victoria Azarenka also opted out of her quarter-final match in Melbourne with injury concerns.
Osaka said that she wanted to be cautious in the lead up to the Australian Open and that she is looking forward to playing in the Grand Slam tournament, starting February 8.

Ashok Dinda Announces Retirement from All Forms of Cricket
Fast bowler Ashok Dinda, has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. The 36-year-old right-handed pacer made his first-class debut for Bengal in 2005 and played for 15 years in Bengal cricket.
He made his international debut in 2009, in a T20I against Sri Lanka, followed by making his ODI debut in Zimbabwe in 2010. He played 13 ODIs and 9 T20I matches for India.
He played 116 first-class matches for Bengal, taking 420 wickets at a bowling average of 28.28.
