Cyrus Poncha is Vice-President of Asian Squash Federation

Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI) Secretary-General, Cyrus Poncha was unanimously elected as Vice-President of the Asian Squash Federation (ASF), during the 41st annual general meeting of ASF. The Dronacharya Awardee has been elected for a period of the four-year term.
David Mui of Hong Kong was elected unopposed as the President of ASF for a second term. Apart from Cyrus Poncha, Mr. Fayez Abdullah S.Al-Mutairi of Kuwait and Tae-sook Hee of Korea were also elected as the Vice-Presidents of ASF.

Bumrah Becomes Fastest Indian Pacer to Reach 100 Test Wickets Mark

Jasprit Bumrah became the quickest Indian fast bowler to take 100 Test wickets, achieving the feat in his 24th game, on the fifth and final day of the fourth Test against England.
Bumrah surpassed the legendary Kapil Dev, who had taken 25 Tests to reach the 100-wicket mark in 1980.
Bumrah reached the milestone mark when he cleaned up Ollie Pope (2).

China Tops Medal Tally with 207 medals at Tokyo Paralympics

China topped the final medal tally at Tokyo Paralympic Games, with a total of 207 medals (96 gold, 60 silver and 51 bronze).
This is the fifth time in a row that Team China has topped the overall medal tally in Paralympics, since Athens 2004.
China was followed by Great Britain, the United States and RPC, respectively.
However, at Tokyo 2020, they were unable to replicate their achievement of surpassing 100 gold medals like at Rio 2016 (107 gold).

Paralympics: Avani Lekhara Leads Indian Contingent at Closing Ceremony

Avani Lekhara, who won gold and bronze medals at the Tokyo Paralympics, led the Indian contingent by carrying the tri-colour during the Closing Ceremony of the Games.
The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games took place between August 24 and September 5 and it featured 539 medal events across 22 sports. A total of 54 para-athletes from India across nine sports disciplines were featured in the Paralympic Games.
The Closing Ceremony saw a total of 11 members of the Indian contingent in attendance. The concepts underlying the Closing Ceremony were "Harmonious Cacophony" and "Moving Forward". The idea was to convey that Tokyo is "A City Where Differences Shine".

Tokyo Paralympics 2020: India Finishes 24th with Record 19 Medals

Indian contingent finished their campaign at the Tokyo Paralympic Games 2020 at an all-time high by securing a total of 19 medals which includes 5 gold, 8 silver, and 6 bronze medals.
India sent its biggest ever contingent of 54 para-athletes across as many as 9 sporting disciplines at the Games. Badminton and Taekwondo made their debut in Tokyo, both of which were represented by India.
Since making its first appearance at the Paralympics in 1968, India had won 12 medals in total till the 2016 Rio edition. The country has now massively improved upon that entire number by 7 medals at the Tokyo Paralympics 2020 alone.
Out of a total of 162 nations, India have finished 24th in the overall medal tally, while its accomplishment of 19 medals is ranked 20th based on the number of medals.

Tokyo Paralympics: Shuttler Pramod Bhagat Wins Badminton Gold

Reigning world champion Pramod Bhagat claimed a historic badminton gold medal in men's singles SL3 class after notching up a thrilling straight game win over Great Britain's Daniel Bethell in the summit clash at the Tokyo Paralympics.
With badminton making its debut at the Paralympics this year, Bhagat, the current world No. 1, thus became the first Indian to win a gold medal in the sport.

Tokyo Paralympics: Avani Lekhara Becomes First Indian Woman to Win Two Medals

Avani Lekhara won the bronze medal in the women's 50 m rifle 3 positions SH1 event with a score of 445.9 to become the first Indian woman to win two medals at the Paralympics. Lekhara had also won gold in the 10m air rifle standing SH1 event.
India's medal tally now stands at 12 at these Paralympics. It has now won two golds, six silvers and four bronze medals. This is India's best tally at a single edition of the Para Games. It had won four medals at Rio 2016 and four at the 1984 Paralympics.

Tokyo Paralympics: Shooter Manish Narwal Wins Gold

India took its medal tally to 15 at the Tokyo Paralympics as Manish Narwal and Singhraj finished 1-2 in the mixed 50m Pistol SH1 shooting final. Manish won the gold with a new Paralympics Record of 218.2 and Singhraj won his 2nd medal at the Tokyo Paralympics, a Silver with 216.7.

Tokyo Paralympics: Archer Harvinder Singh Wins Bronze

Harvinder Singh notched up India's first ever archery medal in the Paralympics, holding his nerves to down Kim Min Su of Korea in a thrilling shoot-off for the men's individual recurve bronze in the ongoing Games.
World No.23 Singh was the first athlete from India to win a gold medal at a major para competition in the 2018 Asian Games. An economics scholar from the Punjabi University, Patiala, Singh collected three shoot-off wins on the day starting with his triumphs in the opening rounds.

Tokyo 2020: China's Armless Swimmer Zheng Tao Dominates with Four Golds

Chinese para-swimmer Zheng Tao has won the internet after shattering records and winning four gold medals at the Tokyo Games - despite having no arms.
Zheng, who lost his arms to an electric shock as a child, dominated with wins in freestyle, backstroke and butterfly.
All of his individual victories have been world or Paralympic records.
His 50 m freestyle final, a Games record, was particularly celebrated on Chinese social media as it also marked the country's 500th summer Paralympic gold since the country first competed at the 1984 Games in New York City.
He took up the sport at the age of 13, and made his international swimming debut six years later at the World Championships in the Netherlands.
He then went on to win his first Paralympic gold at London 2012 in the 100m backstroke event.

Tokyo Paralympics: Praveen Kumar Clinches Silver in Men's T64 High Jump

India's Praveen Kumar clinched the silver medal in the men's high jump T64 event of the Paralympics, taking the country's haul to 11 in the ongoing Games in Tokyo. Kumar competing in his debut Paralympics, set a new Asian record with a 2.07 m jump to finish behind Great Britain's Jonathan Broom-Edwards, who notched up his season's best of 2.10 m for the gold.
The bronze went to Rio Games champion Maciej Lepiato of Poland who produced an effort of 2.04 m. T64 classification is for athletes with a leg amputation, who compete with prosthetics in a standing position.
