India Become First Team in ODI Cricket History to Hit 3000 Sixes

  • In the second ODI between Team India and Australia in Indore, India achieved a significant milestone by surpassing 3000 ODI sixes. They posted a formidable total of 399/6, striking an impressive 18 sixes during their innings. This remarkable feat made India the first team to reach the milestone of 3000 ODI sixes. The West Indies closely trail as the second team on the list with 2953 sixes, while Pakistan holds the third position with 2566 sixes. Surprisingly, cricketing powerhouses like Australia and England, known for their aggressive style of play, do not feature in the top three in this particular statistic.

Nepal Batter Makes Fastest T20I Fifty in 9 Balls

  • Nepal took on Mongolia in the inaugural match of the Asian Games Men's T20I, with Nepal setting numerous new records.
  • Batting first, Nepal struck a mammoth 314/3 in 20 overs, becoming the first team to cross the 300 run mark in a T20I. Prior to this, Afghanistan's 278/3 against Ireland was the highest in this format.
  • Dipendra Singh Airee hit an unbeaten 52 off just 10 deliveries, breaking Yuvraj Singh's 16-year-old record of the fastest 50 in 12 deliveries in 2007 against England. Hitting eight sixes off the 10 balls he played, his strike rate stood at an unbelievable 520.

India's Sift Kaur Samra Wins Gold in Women's 50m Rifle 3-P Individual Event

  • Sift Kaur Samra and Ashi Chouksey won gold and bronze respectively in the women's 50m Rifle 3P final at the Asian Games 2023. It also happened to be the first gold medal that India won in the event in the history of the tournament.
  • Samra finished with 469.6 points and broke the world record of 467. Chouksey finished third with 451.9 points.

Sailor Neha Thakur Wins Silver at Asian Games 2023

  • Indian sailor Neha Thakur, just 17 year of age, won silver in the Girl's Dinghy ILCA4 event with a total of 27 points in 11 races. Thailand's Noppassorn Khunboonjan won gold with 16 while Singapore's Keira Marie Carlyle took bronze with 28 points.

India Win First Equestrian Gold Medal in 41 Years

  • The Indian team of Anush Agarwalla, Hriday Vipul, Divyakriti and Sudipti Hajela on Tuesday created history by clinching a historic gold medal after registering a huge score of 209.205 in the Team Dressage on Tuesday. 
  • This is India's first-ever gold in this event at the Asian Games and their first gold medal in Equestrian after 41 years. This was after Neha Thakur and Eabad Ali won a silver and bronze respectively in sailing.

India Wins First Gold in Men's 10m Air Rifle Team Event in Asian Games 2023

  • India's men's 10m Air Rifle team broke the world record to win the first gold medal for the nation in the ongoing Asian Games 2023.
  • The team, consisting of Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil, Divyansh Singh Panwar, and Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, not only clinched India's first gold medal of the games but also shattered the world record in the process.
  • The trio shot a total of 1893.7 points in the individual qualification round, surpassing the previous world record set by China at the Baku World Championship. South Korea finished in second place with 1890.1 points, while China came in third with a total score of 1888.2.

Team World Beats Team Europe to Claim Back-to-back Laver Cup Titles

  • Team World claimed its second straight Laver Cup title at Rogers Arena.
  • Americans Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe beat Hubert Hurkacz and Andrey Rublev 7-6 (7), 7-6 (7).
  • Team World won last year's (2022) tournament, which also marked the end of Swiss star Roger Federer's last professional appearance before retiring.
  • Team World took a 10-2 lead in the tournament on Saturday to put itself in the driver's seat.
  • The Laver Cup is an international indoor hard court men's team tennis tournament between Team Europe and Team World, the latter of which is composed of players from all other continents except Europe. Usually held annually since 2017, the tournament is intended to be the Ryder Cup of the tennis world

India Women's Cricket Team Claims Gold at Asian Games

  • Harmanpreet Kaur-led India women created history as they clinched gold by beating Sri Lanka by 19 runs in the Asian Games final. With this, the country achieved its first-ever Asian Games cricket medal.
  • Opting to bat first, at the Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field, Hangzhou, Harman & Co. rode on vice-captain Smriti Mandhana's 46 and Jemimah Rodrigues' 42 to post 116 for 7 before Titas Sadhu's 3 for 6, in four overs, restricted the Lankans at 97 for 8.

ICC Announces Prize Money for World Cup 2023; Winners to Get USD 4 Million

  • The International Cricket Council (ICC) announces prize money for World Cup 2023. The winner of the upcoming ODI World Cup will get a prize purse of USD 4 million (approximately Rs. 33 crore) while the runners-up will get richer by USD 2 million (approximately Rs. 16 crore).
  • The ICC announced the prize money and incentives for all 48 matches to be played in the showpiece starting next month.
  • The two losing semi-finalists will get USD 800,000 (Rs. 6 crore approximately) each.
  • The other six teams who fail to qualify for the knockouts will get USD 100,000 (Rs. 82 lakh approximately) each, and the winner of each group stage match will get an incentive of USD 40000 (Rs. 33 lakh approximately).
  • A total of 10 million USD will be distributed by the ICC among all winning teams throughout the tournament.
  • This will be the 13th edition of the men's ODI World Cup, and 10 teams (India, Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and Netherlands) will feature in the tournament.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the first international cricket stadium in Varanasi's Ganjari in Uttar Pradesh aimed at realizing his vision of developing world-class sports infrastructure.
  • Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and a galaxy of cricket legends, including Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Dilip Vengsarkar, Madan Lal, Gundappa Viswanath, Gopal Sharma and Ravi Shastri, attended the foundation laying ceremony of the first stadium of eastern UP.
  • The thematic architecture of the stadium draws inspiration from Lord Shiva, incorporating elements such as crescent-shaped roof covers, trident-shaped floodlights, and ghat steps-based seating arrangements.
  • The Uttar Pradesh government said that it has spent Rs. 121 crore to acquire the land for the stadium while the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will spend Rs 330 crore on its construction.

Antim Panghal Earns a Quota Place in the women's 53kg Category for the Paris Olympics

  • Young Indian wrestler Antim Panghal's superb campaign at the World Championships culminated with a bronze medal, a performance that also earned the country a quota place in the women's 53kg category for the Paris Olympics.
  • Antim became only the sixth Indian woman to win a medal at the Worlds with her victory over Sweden's Emma Jonna Denise Malmgren, the two-time European champion. The high-scoring bout (16-6) ended with a technical superiority win for the Indian, who became the first Indian wrestler, male or female, to lock a quota place for next year's Paris Games.
