India Finishes Asian Archery Championships in Bangkok with Seven Medals

India ended campaign at Asian Archery Championships in Bangkok with seven medals comprising three gold, a silver and three bronze. On the final day, India won five medals in compound event, including three gold. In the Women's team final, Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Parneet Kaur, and Aditi Gopichand Swami defeated Chinese Taipei in a thrilling contest to win the yellow metal. Kaur also won gold in the women's individual event after beating compatriot Vennam in the final. India won their second gold medal of the day after Swami and Priyansh beat Thailand in the final of the Mixed Team event.
Asian Archery Championships is the archery championship organised by the World Archery Asia.
It has been held biannually, and since 2001 has included both the recurve and compound disciplines. The tournament began in 1980 and it was first hosted in India. Countries such as South Korea, China, Japan, and India compete, with many of the world's leading archers representing them.

ICC Suspends Sri Lanka Cricket's Membership Over Government Interference

The International Cricket Council (ICC) took a significant step by suspending Sri Lanka Cricket's membership, citing serious breaches of its autonomy and government interference. The move came in the wake of the Sri Lankan government's decision to sack the cricket board due to the national team's disappointing performance in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
The suspension follows a tumultuous World Cup campaign by the Sri Lankan cricket team, currently ranked ninth in the 10-team standings after a disappointing performance of winnings only two out of nine matches. The struggles were further exacerbated by conflicts within the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) management.

Morkel Resigns as Pakistan's Bowling Coach

Former South African pacer Morne Morkel resigned as the Pakistan cricket team's bowling coach two days after the team's elimination from the ODI World Cup.
The Babar Azam-led Pakistan lost five of the nine matches in the showpiece, their last defeat came against England by 93 runs in Kolkata. Morkel had joined the team on a six-month contract in June this year (2023).

The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the induction of three cricketing maestros into the coveted ICC Cricket Hall of Fame. The latest additions to this prestigious list included the explosive opener Virender Sehwag, Indian trailblazer Diana Edulji, and Sri Lankan superstar Aravinda de Silva. Virender Sehwag, renowned as one of the most destructive batters of the modern era, has rightfully earned his place in the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame. His staggering records across formats showcase his unparalleled prowess with the bat.
Diana Edulji, a trailblazer for Indian women's cricket, became the first Indian woman cricketer to be inducted in the ICC Hall of Fame.
Aravinda de Silva, a key figure in Sri Lanka's 1996 World Cup triumph, has rightfully earned his place in the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame.

Novak Djokovic Gets His Trophy after Securing Year-end No. 1 Ranking for Record-extending 8th Time

Novak Djokovic received his trophy after securing the year-end No. 1 ranking for a record-extending eighth time.
Djokovic needed only a match win at the ATP Finals to be sure of keeping the top spot and the 24-time Grand Slam champion secured it in his opener, beating Holger Rune 7-6 (4), 6-7 (1), 6-3.
ATP president Andrea Gaudenzi presented Djokovic with the trophy for his achievement.
Djokovic had already moved ahead of previous record holder Pete Sampras (six years at No. 1) two years ago.
Carlos Alcaraz took the honour last year. But, Djokovic bounced back this year by winning three of the four major titles and finishing runner-up to Alcaraz at Wimbledon.

Rachin Ravindra Wins ICC 'Player of the Month' Award for October

The International Cricket Council (ICC) revealed the ICC Men's and Women's Player of the Month award recipients for October 2023 from a strong line-up of nominees. New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra claimed his first ICC Men's 'Player of the Month' award thanks to a series of memorable knocks in the group stages of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 in India, while the ICC Women's Player of the Month for October was awarded to Hayley Matthews, who led from the front with scintillating individual performances in West Indies' short format battles in Australia.

Asian Championships: Parneet Kaur Shocks Jyothi to Clinch Gold

Teenager Parneet Kaur secured the biggest win of her career when she pipped ace Indian compound archer Jyothi Surekha Vennam to clinch the individual crown at the Asian Championships.
In an all-Indian women's compound individual final, Parneet trailed by two points till the halfway mark but the bespectacled 18-year-old produced two perfect last rounds to level the score 145-145 and force a tie-breaker.
Fresh from winning a hat-trick of gold at the Asian Games last month, Jyothi was not at her best and lost the shoot-off 8-9 as Parneet won her maiden individual gold medal at the International level.

Meg Lanning Australia's Skipper Retires (11)

Meg Lanning, captain of Australia's all-conquering women's cricket team, announced her international retirement after a decorated 13-year career including seven world titles. Out of those seven trophies, five were won by Australia under Lanning's leadership.
The 31-year-old also led Australia to a Commonwealth Games gold medal last year and is the country's leading run scorer across formats with 8,352 runs in 241 games (six Tests, 103 ODIs and 132 T20s). Lanning, however, will continue to play in T20 leagues around the world.

National Games of India 2023 Conclude

Maharashtra clinched three gold medals in Yogasana and one more in shooting on the final day to top the National Games medal tally for the first time since 1994 in Goa on Thursday.
Maharashtra finished with a total of 228 medals (80 gold, 69 silver and 79 bronze) and emerge overall champions and lifted the Raja Bhalindra Singh Rolling Trophy.
Services finished second with 66 gold, 27 silver and 33 bronze medals, as their reign at the top since the 2007 Games in Guwahati ended.
Haryana stood third with 62 gold, 54 silver and 73 bronze. Madhya Pradesh and Kerala finished fourth and fifth, respectively with host Goa registering their best ever finish -- ninth -- with 92 medals, including 27 gold.
