PM Inaugurates Global Patidar Business Summit

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Global Patidar Business Summit (GPBS) in Surat Gujarat via video conferencing. Sardardham is organizing GPBS under Mission-2026 to provide an impetus to the socio-economic development of Patidar community. The Summit is organized every two years. The first two Summits were held in Gandhinagar in 2018 and 2020 and the current Summit is now being held in Surat. The main theme of GPBS-2022 is Aatmanirbhar Community to Aatmanirbhar Gujarat and India.
  • The Summit aims to bring together small, medium and large enterprises within the community; nurture and support new entrepreneurs and provide training and employment assistance to the educated youth.

Vijay Sampla Appointed NCSC Chairperson for Second Time

  • BJP leader and former Union Minister Vijay Sampla was appointed as the chairperson of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) for a second time. Sampla had resigned as the NCSC chairman ahead of the Punjab elections and had contested the polls. The official order for his appointment was issued by President Ram Nath Kovind.
  • Sampla, a prominent Dalit politician from Punjab, began his political career in 1998 as the sarpanch of Sofipind village in Jalandhar Cantonment. He has also served in the Punjab government. He was the chairman of Punjab Khadi Board from 2008 to 2012 and the chairman of the Punjab State Forest Development Corporation in 2014. He was then elected to the Lok Sabha from Hoshiarpur, and became a Union Minister in 2015.

Cabinet Approves 540 MW Kwar Hydroelectric Project in Jammu & Kashmir

  • The Centre approved Rs. 4,526.12 crore for the 540 MW Kwar Hydroelectric Project on the Chenab River in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The project will generate 1,975.54 million units of electricity with 90 per cent dependability in a year. It will be jointly commissioned by National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) and J&K State Power Development Corporation (JKSPDC) in 54 months. The project would provide direct and indirect employment to about 2,700 people and it would be implemented by Chenab Valley Power Projects Private Limited (CVPPPL).

UP's Agra Becomes First City to Have Vacuum-based Sewer Systems

  • Agra, Uttar Pradesh became the first city in the country to have vacuum-based sewer systems. These vacuums would be used in public places. Agra Smart City officials told the media that the municipal corporation has linked 240 such houses near the Taj Mahal with vacuum-based sewers, where conventional sewer systems could not be used.
  • The estimated cost for the work of sewer connection is Rs. 100 crore. Presently, this technology is being used in low-lying areas. The Maintenance and complete care will be done by the Netherlands company for up to five years. A vacuum sewer network of 240 houses has been constructed at Rs. 5 crore. All the chambers are equipped with geographic information system (GIS) based sensors, which will help pinpoint the area of the chamber and the problem.

IndiGo Becomes First Airline to Land Aircraft Using Indigenous Navigation System GAGAN

  • IndiGo became the first airline in the country to land aircraft using the indigenous navigation system GAGAN. The flight was conducted using an ATR-72 aircraft and landed at the Kishangarh airport in Rajasthan on April 27 morning, using GPS-aided geo-augmented navigation (GAGAN), which has been jointly developed by the Centre-run Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
  • GAGAN is used to provide lateral and vertical guidance when an aircraft is approaching a runway for landing. Its precision is especially useful at small airports where the instrument landing system (ILS) has not been installed.

Union Minister Shri Giriraj Singh Launches 90-day Campaign 'Azadi Se Antyodaya Tak'

  • The Centre launched a 90-day campaign, "Azadi Se Antyodaya Tak", with a mission to saturate 75 districts, including three each from Haryana and Punjab and one from Himachal Pradesh, with beneficiary schemes of nine Central Ministries. These districts are from 28 states/UTs.
  • Celebrating the spirit of the year-long Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM), the identified districts are aligned with the birth place of 99 freedom fighters.
  • Inaugurating the campaign, Union Rural Development Minister Giriraj Singh said that the goal of the campaign is to take up 17 select schemes with direct assistance to beneficiaries in saturation mode, reaching out to the person at the bottom of the pyramid in rural areas by each of the participating ministries/departments.

Cabinet Approves Upgradation of 2G Mobile Sites to 4G at Security Sites in Left Wing Extremism (L...

  • The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi approved a Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) project for upgrading 2G mobile services to 4G at security sites in LWE areas. The Project envisages upgrading 2,343 left Wing Extremism Phase-I sites from 2G to 4G mobile services at an estimated cost of Rs.1,884.59 crore (Excluding taxes and levies).
  • Government chose BSNL for a prestigious project to indigenous 4G telecom equipment so as to achieve self-reliance in the telecom gear segment to fulfil domestic market needs apart from exporting to other markets. This 4G equipment will be deployed in this project also.

Governor of Uttarakhand Lt General Gurmit Singh Flagged-off "BRO@63" Multi-Dimensional Expedition

  • Governor of Uttarakhand, Lt General Gurmit Singh flagged-off the "BRO@63" Multi-Dimensional Expedition from Dehradun. The expedition, a tribute to the grit & determination of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) Karamyogis, was organised as part of the events leading to the 63rd Raising Day of the organisation, which is slated on May 07, 2022. It is also one, in the series of events organised by the BRO celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
  • The Multi-dimensional Expedition includes four distinct activities, i.e., a Mountaineering Trek to the 15,000 feet Pangarchula Peak covering a distance of approximately 50 Kilometres, River Rafting in the rapids of River Ganga for 35 Kilometres, Cyclothon from Dehradun to Delhi via Chandigarh covering a distance of 591 Kilometres and Fit BRO Endurance Run from Roorkee to Delhi covering a distance of 211 Kilometres.

  • Veteran Congress leader A.K. Antony bid farewell to parliamentary politics and Delhi after spending 38 years in five stints in the Rajya Sabha. At 81 years, with a formidable CV behind him, the former Defence Minister want to slowly withdraw from national politics too. For now, he will continue in all positions within the Congress, including the Congress Working Committee (CWC).
  • He came to Delhi for the first time in 1973 as a 33-year-old Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president (elect) to meet Indira Gandhi. He was the youngest president of the Kerala unit, a record that still remains unbroken.

NHLML Signs MoU with Himachal Pradesh for Ropeway Projects

  • Himachal Pradesh government signed MoU for the development of seven ropeway projects in Kangra, Kullu, Chamba, Sirmour and Bilaspur districts of the state. The MoU was signed between Ropeways and Rapid Transport System Development Corporation (RTDC) HP Limited and National Highways Logistic Management Limited (NHLML) for the development of ropeways as innovative transport solution in Himachal Pradesh.
  • The MoU was signed in the presence of Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari and chief minister Jai Ram Thakur in New Delhi.

India's First Amrit Sarovar Prepared in UP's Rampur

  • Under the Amrit Sarovar initiative, 75 water bodies will be developed and rejuvenated in each district as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. India`s first `Amrit Sarovar` has been completed in Rampur`s Gram Panchayat Patwai.Under the Amrit Sarovar initiative. A pond in Rampur has been cleaned and rejuvenated in a few weeks. Now this pond has become a big centre of tourism in the rural area.

Delhi and Punjab Sign Knowledge-sharing Agreement

  • The Punjab government signed a knowledge-sharing agreement with the Delhi government, wherein the two states will "cooperate for framing and implementing public welfare programmes in various fields on the basis of reciprocity and mutual benefit". The agreement was signed between Chief Ministers Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann.
  • The two leaders announced that this was a historic agreement that would allow free flow of ideas for growth of both the states. They said that since Independence, no state learnt from another but kept re-inventing its own plans for growth and development. The agreement mentions that the two states will cooperate on 18 priority areas.

NITI Aayog Organises National Workshop on "Innovative Agriculture"

  • NITI Aayog, as a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, organised a National Level Workshop on "Innovative Agriculture" in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The workshop had four technical sessions: (i) a panel discussion on natural farming in States, (ii) natural farming for soil health restoration and climate change mitigation, (iii) promotion of natural farming, (iv) innovations in natural farming.
  • More than 1250 participants from Central Ministries, State Governments, industry, farmers, academic and research institutions, KVK's, and NGOs, delegates from national and international organizations in agriculture and allied sectors, international delegates from France, Australia and Germany joined the workshop physically and virtually.

  • The vice president of India, M. Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated a 100 Metre Tower for 10 KW Operation at the All India Radio FM Station in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh. He called upon the media to follow the values of ethical journalism and to be responsible in their coverage of news. The Vice President noted the popularity of radio and its importance in educating the people on various issues. He recalled how radio has been instrumental in giving recognition to many artists as well as bringing extension services closer to farmers.
  • Addressing the gathering later, Venkaiah Naidu stressed that freedom of the press is indispensable in a democracy. In this context, he underlined the critical role of broadcast media in national development.

India Creates Guinness World Record by Waving 78,220 Flags Simultaneously

  • India saw a new feat as a Guinness world record was created with 78,220 people in Bihar's Bhojpur simultaneously waving the national flag together in a celebration of 75 years of independence - 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.' " In the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, India created the record in waving the National Flag at the same time.
  • Tricolour was waived for full five minutes, as the national song 'Vande Mataram' played in the background.

Ministry of Civil Aviation Organizes "Yog Prabha" at Safdarjung Airport

  • The Ministry of Civil Aviation organized a mega event- Yog Prabha at Safdarjung Airport in New Delhi. The event was inaugurated by Union Minister of Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia and the Minister of State for Civil Aviation Dr. V.K. Singh. Over 900 officials participated in this mega event. Yoga instructors from Morarji Desai Institute of Yoga guided the participants in performing various Yog, Asana and Pranayama techniques.
  • At the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the United Nations General Assembly took a historic decision in 2014 to declare 21st June as the International Day of Yoga. The Ministry of Civil Aviation said, Yog Prabha will help in creating awareness among the participants about the importance of Yoga and will motivate others to do Yoga on a daily basis.

PM Modi Inaugurats 7th Edition of Raisina Dialogue

  • The Raisina Dialogue was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The chief guest of the event was European Commission President Ursula Von Der Leyen. It is the flagship geo-economics and multilateral foreign policy conference of the country. "Terranova- Impassioned, Impatient, Imperilled" is the theme of the Raisina Dialogue 2022.
  • This dialogue is the country's premier conference on geo-economics and geo-politics. In the year 2016, the Raisina Dialogue was started. The conference aims to address the most challenging issues that are being faced by the global community. The Ministry of External Affairs in collaboration with the Observer Research Foundation (ORF) organizes this conference. This conference brings together various leaders in business, politics, civil society, and media annually to explore cooperation opportunities and to discuss the current state of the world.
