Junior Women's Hockey Team to Compete in Four-Nation Tournament in Argentina

  • The Indian junior women's hockey team is all set to embark on an exciting tour of Argentina for a friendly Four Nations Tournament, scheduled from May 25 to June 2, 2025.
  • The team will play six friendly matches against Argentina, Uruguay, and Chile.
  • The tournament will begin on May 25, with India playing back-to-back matches against Chile and Uruguay on May 25 and 26, respectively. After a rest day, they will face hosts Argentina on May 28.
  • The team will then follow the same sequence in the return leg, taking on Chile on May 30, Uruguay on June 1, and Argentina on June 2.
  • This tour is a crucial part of the team's preparations for the FIH Hockey Junior Women's World Cup, scheduled to take place in Santiago, Chile, in December 2025.

Neeraj Chopra Finally Breaches 90m mark at Doha Diamond League

  • Star Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra finally breached the 90m mark at the Doha leg of the prestigious Diamond League Meeting as he became the third Asian and 25th overall to achieve the feat.
  • The double Olympic medallist sent his spear 90.23m in his third attempt to join a list of javelin throwers, led by his current coach Jan Zelezny of Czechia, who had recorded 90m-plus efforts.

FIFA Lifts Suspension on Republic of Congo's Football Federation

  • FIFA officially lifted the suspension imposed on the Republic of Congo's football federation (FECOFOOT), ending a three-month standoff caused by allegations of third-party interference. The ban, which stemmed from a prolonged dispute between FECOFOOT and the Congolese sports ministry, had disrupted national football operations and led to the closure of key sports facilities, including the federation's headquarters.
  • The issue gained global attention after FIFA suspended the Republic of Congo's football federation in early 2025 due to violations of its policy on third-party interference in national football bodies. The lifting of the suspension signals resolution of the conflict, following compliance with FIFA's stipulated conditions.

Former Sri Lanka player Dassanayake Earns Second Stint as USA Coach

  • Former Sri Lanka and Canada international Pubudu Dassanayake was appointed as the new head coach of USA's men's team.
  • Dassanayake replaced Stuart Law in the top job, after the former Australia batter left the position towards the end of last year (2024) after leading the side in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup they co-hosted with the West Indies.
  • It is the second time Dassanayake has held the role as head coach with the USA, having previously enjoyed a three-year stint in charge from 2016-2019.

  • A Tennis Cricket Ball World Cup and Asia Cup will be staged in India, marking the first global and continental tournaments played exclusively with tennis balls.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Kathryn Bryce Named ICC Players of the Month for April

  • Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Scotland captain Kathryn Bryce were named ICC Men's and Women's Player of the Month for April 2025, respectively. Miraz played a pivotal role in helping Bangladesh level the two-match series 1-1 against Zimbabwe.
  • As a result, Miraz became just the third player from Bangladesh to win the men's monthly award after Shakib al Hasan, who won in March 2023 and Mushfiqur Rahim. The spin all-rounder played a pivotal role in his team's victory in the second Test, putting his all-round skills on display.
  • Kathryn Bryce put on a stellar show with both bat and ball in the ICC Women's World Cup qualifier 2025. The Scotland captain finished as the highest run scorer of the tournament with 293 runs to her name from five innings at an average of 73.25 with one hundred and two fifties.
  • The right-arm seamer also scalped six wickets from five innings and was adjudged Player of the Tournament for her all-round show.

KIYG 2025 Day 10: UP's Kadir Khan Breaks 400m Record

  • Uttar Pradesh's Kadir Khan broke the 400m meet record twice inside 24 hours as Khelo India Youth Games 2025 saw another spate of good performances at the Patliputra Sports Complex in Patna, Bihar.
  • In his maiden Khelo India Youth Games, Kadir Khan broke the 400m Games record on May 12 and improved his 47.67 seconds in the final. He clocked 47.34 seconds to relegate Bihar's Piyush Raj (47.43) to the silver. Karnataka's Sayed Sabeer (47.50 sec) won the bronze. Both Raj and Sabeer improved on the previous meet record.

Pakistan Appoint Seasoned Leader as White-Ball Head Coach

  • Mike Hesson was announced as the white-ball head coach of the men's team, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed.
  • Hesson stepped into the role previously held by Aqib Javed, who served as the interim head coach following Gary Kirsten's departure in October 2024. Javed will remain involved with Pakistan cricket, transitioning to the position of Director of High Performance.
  • At the international level, Hesson has previously led New Zealand and Kenya. Under his guidance, the Black Caps became a formidable force, reaching the final of the 2015 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup.

Carlo Ancelotti is new Brazil National Football Team Head Coach

  • Carlo Ancelotti was appointed as the head coach of the Brazil national team. The Real Madrid coach replaced Dorival Júnior, who held the job for a tenure of 14 months before getting sacked in March after the team faced a 4-1 defeat at Argentina.
