Actor Vasishta Simha is Brand Ambassador for Water Conservation in Karnataka
In 2025, for conservation of traditional water sources and enhancement of groundwater levels in Karnataka, the Department of Minor Irrigation and Groundwater Development named actor Vasishta Simha as its brand ambassador.
To connect with the younger generation on water conservation, Vasishta Simha has been appointed as the brand ambassador for the department, said Minister for Minor Irrigation, Science and Technology N. S. Boseraju.
Indian wireless carrier Vodafone Idea appointed Tejas Mehta as its Chief Financial Officer, effective October 6. Prior to his appointment at Vodafone Idea, he was working as CFO in Mondelez India since 2002.
Mehta replaces Murthy Gvas, who ends his tenure on October 5. He is set to be the new CFO of Vodafone Idea with 25 years of rich and diverse experience across India and international markets.
Indian Scientists Develop Simpler Method for Quantum-based Digital Security
Researchers in India developed a new way to generate truly random numbers using quantum computers, a breakthrough that could make digital security systems harder to crack.
The work was done by scientists at the Raman Research Institute (RRI) in Bengaluru, working with colleagues from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and the University of Calgary.
Random numbers are vital for digital security. They protect bank accounts, encrypt messages, and secure online transactions. But regular computers cannot make truly random numbers.
Simran Wins 100m Gold in World Para Athletics Championships
Delhi's own Simran Sharma who set the tone - sprinting her way into history with a golden run in the women's 100m T12 final. The 25-year-old, running alongside her guide Umar Saifi, clocked a personal best of 11.95 seconds, clinching her maiden World Para Athletics Championships gold and India's first medal of the day.

Nishad Kumar Beats Legendary Townsend
Nishad Kumar's gold was about patience, perseverance, and poetic timing. On his 26th birthday, he soared to an Asian record of 2.14m in the men's high jump T47, finally clutching the gold, in World Para Athletics Championships 2025, he had long craved.
It was his maiden gold in either Paralympics or world para championships.
He won a silver each in the Tokyo and Paris Paralympics, a bronze in the 2019 world championships and a silver in the 2023 edition.
CM to Inaugurates Katpadi's First Government Hospital
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will virtually inaugurate the first full-fledged 60 bed-Government Taluk Hospital at Serkadu village in Katpadi, Vellore, on October 6.
Officials of the Public Works Department (PWD), which executed the multi-crore project, said that the new government hospital has modern health facilities, including ECG, CT scan, and surgery theatres.
Zuppa Geo Navigation Inks Agreement with IIT Madras, Indian Air Force to Undertake Defence R&D
Chennai-based deep tech firm Zuppa Geo Navigation Technologies, in 2025, announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IIT-Madras and the 8 Base Repair Depot (8 BRD) of the Indian Air Force, to jointly undertake in-house Research & Development (R&D) in defence technologies.
The partnership will leverage the deep-tech expertise of Zuppa Geo Navigation Technologies in UAVs and navigation systems with the research and innovation ecosystem of IIT-Madras, and the operational experience and domain knowledge of the Indian Air Force's 8 BRD.
Through the MoU, the three stakeholders will focus on developing practical solutions that enhance operational efficiency, autonomy, and resilience in defence aviation and related systems.

NITI Aayog Launches Tax Policy Working Paper to Boost Foreign Investment
NITI Aayog launched the first paper under its Tax Policy Working Paper Series, in October 2025. The paper focuses on improving tax certainty, attracting more foreign investment and bringing more transparency in permanent establishment and profit attribution for foreign investors in India. Addressing the Media, NITI Aayog, CEO BVR Subrahmanyam said that the objective of the paper is to introduce an Optional Presumptive Taxation Scheme that offers a simpler and more predictable way for foreign companies to pay taxes.
Woman Appointed Archbishop of Canterbury in Historic First
For the first time in the Church of England's 491-year history, a woman has been appointed to lead it.
Downing Street announced that Bishop of London Dame Sarah Mullally, 63, who became a Christian aged 16, would be the successor to Justin Welby who resigned in Jan over his handling of a child sex abuse scandal.
Currently known as the Archbishop of Canterbury-designate, she will legally become the 106th Archbishop of Canterbury at her confirmation of election at St Paul's Cathedral in Jan 2026, with a service of installation taking place at Canterbury Cathedral in March 2026.
Mullally has been Bishop of London since 2018, the first woman appointed to that role too. Prior to her ordination in 2001, she was chief nursing officer for England — the youngest person ever to be appointed to that role at the age of 37 — having previously specialised as a cancer nurse.
