Government Selects 24 Companies under PLI Scheme for White Goods

  • The government selected 24 companies under the third round of the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for white goods.
  • These companies have committed an investment of Rs. 3,516 crore to boost domestic production of critical components for ACs and LED lights.
  • Out of the 38 applications received in the round, 18 new companies were provisionally selected, with 10 focusing on AC components and 8 on LED light components. These new entrants are set to invest Rs. 2,299 crore.
  • Additionally, 6 existing beneficiaries of the PLI scheme, including prominent AC and LED light manufacturers, have been chosen to scale up their investments, contributing an additional Rs. 1,217 crore.
  • As of now, 84 companies are part of the PLI scheme for white goods, bringing in a total investment of Rs. 10,478 crore.

  • Sanjeev Mehta, former Managing Director of Standard Chartered Bank who resigned from the top post in September 2024, became an entrepreneur with the launch of a new-age start-up venture called Akashaverse.

India to Host FIDE Chess World Cup 2025

  • India is set to host the prestigious FIDE Chess World Cup 2025, marking a significant milestone for the country as it takes on the role of the host for its first major international chess tournament since the 2022 Chennai Chess Olympiad. This further elevates India's stature in the global chess arena, especially considering the country's growing influence in the sport.
  • The FIDE Chess World Cup 2025 is scheduled to take place from October 31 to November 27, 2025. This tournament is of paramount importance as it features a knockout format with over 200 players from around the world. It also serves as a vital gateway to the Candidates Tournament, offering three qualification spots. These spots are highly coveted as the Candidates Tournament determines who will challenge the reigning World Chess Champion.

Gadecki and Peers win Australian Open mixed Doubles Title

  • Australians Olivia Gadecki and John Peers battled back from a set down and defeated compatriots Kimberly Birrell and John-Patrick Smith 3-6 6-4 10-6 in the mixed doubles final of the Australian Open at Melbourne Park.

National Conference on Good Governance to be Held in Gandhinagar (Gujarat)

  • With the objective of implementing the Prime Minister's vision of "Maximum Governance – Minimum Government", the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Government of India in collaboration with the Government of Gujarat is organising a two-day National Conference on "Good Governance" from January 30 to 31, 2025 at Gandhinagar.
  • Chief Minister of Gujarat, Bhupendra Patel and Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh, Chief Secretary, Government of Gujarat will address the inaugural session. During the session, e-Journal on Administrative Reforms, titled Minimum Government-Maximum Governance in two volumes will be unveiled jointly by Bhupendra Patel and Jitendra Singh.

Centre Notifies Appointment of 5 Judges to High Courts Of Rajasthan, Allahabad And Bombay

  • The Central Government has notified the appointment of 5 judges to Rajasthan High Court, Allahabad High Court and Bombay High Court.
  • Three judicial officers, Chandra Shekhar Sharma, Pramil Kumar Mathur and Chandra Prakash Shrimali were appointed as judges of Rajasthan High Court.
  • Advocate Praveen Kumar Giri was elevated as the judge of Allahabad High Court and Advocate Pravin Sheshrao Patil has been appointed as the Additional Judge to the Bombay High Court.
