The leaders of the BRICS nations decided to admit Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates as the new members of the grouping, sealing a long-drawn process.
The decision was announced by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa at a joint media briefing along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
The new members will become part of BRICS with effect from January 1, 2024.
The decision on the new members was agreed upon after firming up the guiding principles, criteria, and procedures for the expansion process.
In another blow for Indian wrestling, the United World Wrestling (UWW) suspended the country for failure to conduct elections.
Indian Olympic Association's acting CEO Kalyan Chaubey confirmed the development, which means that even though India's wrestlers will still participate in the World Championships next month it'll be as neutrals and not under the national flag. Moreover, in case India's wrestlers finish on top of the podium, the national anthem will not be played.
The UWW had threatened to suspend India back in June when it issued a strongly-worded statement condemning the treatment and detention of the protesting wrestlers.

The advance landing ground (ALG) in eastern Ladakh's Nyoma will be upgraded to a fully-equipped airbase that can operate numerous fighter jets like the Rafale, Sukhoi-30MKI and Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas.
