The United States imposed a new round of Iran sanctions, targeting the country's oil and petrochemical sales. The sanctions hit a Vietnam-based company, two firms based in China, two others in Iran and one in the United Arab Emirates, accusing them of involvement "in the transport or sale" of Iranian oil and petrochemicals.
According to the state department, the US is committed to significantly reducing Iran's energy exports and will sanction those facilitating its petroleum and petrochemical trade.
Iran has faced an enormous amount of US sanctions since 2018.

RBI Slaps Amazon Pay (India) with Rs. 3.06 crore Penalty
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) imposed a penalty of Rs. 3.06 crore on Amazon Pay (India) Private Limited, on charges of not complying with certain norms of the Prepaid Payment Instruments (PPIs) and Know Your Customer (KYC) direction.
RBI said that after considering the response from Amazon Pay on charge of non-compliance with RBI directions it imposed monetary penalty.
The central bank said that the charges were imposed under Section 30 of the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007.

Former Diplomat, Padma Bhushan Awardee Chandrashekhar Dasgupta Passes Away
Chandrashekhar Dasgupta, former Indian diplomat and the recipient of Padma Bhushan, passed away at the age of 82. During his almost four-decade-long career, he served as the ambassador to the European Union, Belgium, Luxembourg and China.
He joined the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) in 1962. He was the high commissioner to Singapore between 1981 and 1984 and Tanzania between 1984 and 1986. Dasgupta also held the vice-chair of the preparatory committees of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), popularly known as the Earth Summit, held in Rio de Janeiro in 1992.
In 2008, he was awarded the third-highest civilian honour, the Padma Bhushan, for his work in Indian civil service.

IIT Madras Ties up with Denmark for Next-gen Fuels, Energy Systems Research
Towards expanding research projects in areas of climate change mitigation and enabling green transition, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras announced a collaboration with Industry and Academia in Denmark.
Four projects were disclosed in the presence of the Crown Prince of Denmark, Lars Aagaard, Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities, Government of Denmark, and Freddy Svane, Ambassador of Denmark to India, among other stakeholders.
Three out of these four projects were announced to enable energy transition towards a low-carbon future as envisioned by IIT Madras Energy Consortium.
The fourth project was signed in the realm of Water to promote cooperation in engineering education and scientific research between Danfoss, Denmark and IIT Madras. Both institutions will undertake joint work on drinking water for coastal regions using renewable energy.
Lawyers with 10 Years Experience Eligible for Appointment as President, Members of State, District Consumer Commissions
In a significant ruling, the Supreme Court held that lawyers having at least 10 years standing were eligible for appointment as President and members of both the State and District Consumer Commissions.
Upholding the order of the Bombay High Court (Nagpur Bench) over the matter, the Bench of Justice M.R. Shah and Justice M.M. Sundresh quashed the provisions of the Consumer Protection Rules, 2020, framed by the Central government under Section 101 of the Consumer Protection Act 2019.
As per the Consumer Protection Rules, 2020 framed by the Union of India, lawyers having minimum professional experience of 20 years and 15 years were eligible for adjudication as members to the State Consumer Commissions and District Forums, respectively, after qualifying a written examination.
