Paraguay: Bust of Mahatma Gandhi unveiled

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar unveiled a statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Paraguay during his first official visit to South America. He also praised the decision of Asuncion Municipality to put the statue of Mahatma Gandhi on the main bank of the city. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is on an official visit to Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina from 22-27 August.

Aravind's ground gecko: New bent-toed gecko species

A group of researchers has recently discovered a new species of bent-toed gecko from the Agasthyamalai hills in the Western Ghats. The name of this new gecko has been given in the name of well-known malacologist N.A. Arvind as Aravind's ground gecko. The new species has been described based on its distinctness in the morphological and molecular DNA data.

India's first indigenously developed Hydrogen Fuel Cell Bus

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh recently launched India's first truly indigenously developed Hydrogen Fuel Cell Bus developed by KPIT-CSIR in Pune. This bus has zero emissions compared to a diesel bus plying on long distance routes which usually emits 100 tonnes of CO₂ annually.

International Day for Victims of Acts of Violence based on Religion or Belief

Every year on 22 August the International Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief is observed. This day emphasises the significance of aiding victims of religious persecution as part of the UN's efforts to promote Human Rights related to religious or belief freedom. It was first made official in 2019 with aim to honour victims and survivors of heinous acts who often remain forgotten. This day comes a day after the International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism, which is observed on 21 August.

Rajasthan: Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Advanced Technologies

With an aim to make tech graduates more employable Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot recently inaugurated the Rajiv Gandhi Center for Advanced Technologies (R-CAT) in Jaipur. The center will organize modern technologies related training programs of one week to six months duration for graduates from BE, B.Tech, BCA, MCA, MBA, and MSc (IT) in collaboration with tech giants of global scale and World class certificates will also be issued to successful candidates.
