Singapore Becomes First Country to Use Facial Recognition to Pay Taxes
In Singapore, online government services can now be accessed by facial recognition -- a world first.
This technology is being rolled out to the city-state's SingPass digital identity scheme, offering access to no less than 400 online services, including tax declarations and public housing applications. Facial recognition is also increasingly being used to access other online services, such as banking.
This new function, dubbed SingPass Face Verification, lets users connect securely to government websites, as well as online services on private websites. The function is designed to work via home computers, tablets and cell phones, as well as at public kiosks.
According to the Singapore authorities, the technology helps ensure that the right person is genuinely present in front of their screen, rather than a photograph, a video, a replayed recording or a deep fake.
Paddy Stubble can Decompose in 25 Days with Microbial Solution: ICAR
Initial results from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) about trials on the effectiveness of a microbial consortium to decompose paddy stubble show that the latter can decompose within 25 days amid reports of Delhi-national capital region (NCR) and several other north-western states battling "poor" air quality index (AQI), which has become an annual phenomenon in the past few years around this time of the year.
Trials are in progress in up to 14,000 hectares (ha) of paddy farmland in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Delhi, said the ICAR chief.

To push agriculture finance, state-owned Bank of Baroda (BoB) said it has entered into a pact with Mahindra and Mahindra for tractor finance business.
The lender, through its over 5,000 rural and semi-urban branch network, will provide tractor loan facility to customers of Mahindra and Mahindra.
This memorandum of understanding (MoU) will give a boost to agri business and will help farmers in availing hassle-free credit facilities for buying tractors.
The bank has tied up with Gromax under the Mahindra stable as the preferred brand.

World number one Indian Elavenil Valarivan won a gold medal and Shahu Tushar Mane bagged a silver in the Sheikh Russel International Air Rifle Championship, held virtually.
The championship was organised by Bangladesh Shooting Sport Federation (BSSF).
Thanks to her gold, Elavenil got richer by $1000 while Shahu Mane pocketed $700 for his effort.
In the 60-shot competition in which shooters from six nations participated, including hosts Bangladesh and India, Elavenil shot a modest 627.5 to come out on top.

FSSAI's New Platform to Become Operational Across India
Food regulator FSSAI said its Food Safety Compliance System (FoSCoS) will become operational in the entire country from November 1, 2020.
The system is operational in nine States/UTs -- Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Gujarat, Odisha, Chandigarh, Goa, Manipur, Puducherry and Ladakh since June.
It said since 2011, its online FLRS (Food Licensing and Registration System) is the soul of the licensing ecosystem.
It is operational in all states and 70 lakh licences/ registrations have been issued till date while over 40 lakh licensees/ registrants are actively transacting on it.

SANT Missile Successfully Testfired from Odisha Coast
India successfully test fired the Stand-off Anti-tank (SANT) Missile off the coast of Odisha.
The Missile is being developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for the Indian Air Force (IAF) and will have both Lock-on After Launch and Lock-on Before Launch capability.
On the other hand, the IAF congratulated the DRDO on the successful test-firing of BrahMos supersonic cruise missile.

A cleaning drive at India's premier film school Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) has unexpectedly yielded a gem from history—an award certificate conferred on Ram Shastri, one of the first biopics produced in the country 76 years ago.
The pre-Independence award would now be showcased at the Prabhat Museum, according to FTII officials.
Ram Shastri, in 1944, was no less than a sensation as it swept one film award after another.
According to a person aware of the development, an award certificate presented to the Prabhat Film Company for Ram Shastri in 1944 was recently found in FTII's Prabhat Studio at Pune.
Govt Launches Rs 10,000 cr Scheme to Boost Healthcare Infra
Union Minister of State for Agriculture Parshottam Rupala launched a new scheme, Ayushman Sahakar, under which the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) would extend term loans of Rs 10,000 crore to cooperatives for creating healthcare infrastructure in rural India.
There are about 52 hospitals across the country run by cooperatives. They have cumulative bed strength of more than 5,000. The NCDC fund would give a boost to provision of healthcare services by cooperatives, NCDC Managing Director Sundeep Nayak said.
The government said any cooperative society with suitable provision in its byelaws to undertake healthcare related activities would be able to access the NCDC fund.
The NCDC assistance will flow either through the state governments or directly to the eligible cooperatives. Subsidy/ grant from other sources can be dovetailed.
Uttar Pradesh Governor Launches 'Safe City Project' in Lucknow
Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel said the movement of women police personnel in Lucknow will inculcate a feeling of pride and safety for women in the city.
The Governor spoke while inaugurating the 'Safe City Project', a 180-day-long campaign under which the police and other departments will work towards safety of women.
In a statement, the UP Raj Bhavan said the Governor flagged off 100 pink scooties and 10 four-wheeler police vehicles. Lucknow is among eight cities in the country selected for the 'Safe City Project'.
The central government has approved the project for Lucknow at a total cost of Rs 194 crore with an aim to strengthen security of women in public places.
