Kalpataru Completes Sale of 100 pc Stake in Kalpataru Satpura Transco to CLP India

  • Kalpataru Power Transmission Limited (KPTL) has successfully completed sale of its entire stake in Kalpataru Satpura Transco Private Limited (KSTPL) to CLP India Private Limited.
  • CLP India is owned by CLP Group, one of the largest investor-owned power businesses in Asia, and Caisse de dpt et placement du Qubec (CDPQ), one of Canada's leading institutional fund managers.
  • The company, however, did not disclose the financial details of the transaction.

Indian Navy launches Operation Samudra Setu

  • Indian Navy has launched Operation Samudra Setu - meaning Sea Bridge, as a part of national effort to repatriate Indian citizens from overseas. Indian Naval Ships Jalashwa and Magar are presently enroute to Malè in Maldives to commence evacuation operations as part of Phase-1.
  • Indian Mission in Maldives is preparing a list of Indian nationals to be evacuated by Naval ships and will facilitate their embarkation after requisite medical screening.

  • United States President Donald Trump nominated Indian-American lawyer Ashok Michael Pinto as a representative to the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), the World Bank's lending arm.
  • He was nominated as US Alternate Executive Director of IBRD for a period of 2 years.

  • Former dreaded dacoit Mohar Singh died following prolonged illness in Madhya Pradesh's Bhind district.

International Day of the Midwife 2020

  • The International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) celebrates the International Day of Midwives on May 5. The day is observed to spread awareness about the status of midwives and the essential care they provide to mothers and their newborns.
  • For the year 2020, the International Day of Midwives 2020 theme was 'Celebrate. Demonstrate. Mobilise. Unite'. The Confederation aims to stress on how midwives and women can jointly 'mobilise and unite toward a shared goal of gender equality'.

  • Professors Nicholas C. Coops of the University of British Columbia (UBC), Vancouver, Canada,  Richard H. Waring of Oregon State University, United States of America (USA) & Joseph J. Landsberg of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) Australia shares the 'Marcus Wallenberg Prize (MWP) 2020' or 'the Nobel Prize for forest sector' for 3-PG (Physiological Principles Predicting Growth), a model to predict forest growth in a changing climate.
    • The prize 2020 will be presented by King Carl Gustaf XVI of Sweden during a ceremony in Stockholm, Sweden & the prize money is 2 million Kronor

Vladimir Putin Awards Commemorative WWII Medal to Kim Jong Un

  • Russian President Vladimir Putin has awarded Kim Jong Un a commemorative war medal marking the 75th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany, the Russian embassy in Pyongyang said.
  • The medal was awarded to the North Korean leader for his role in preserving the memory of Soviet soldiers who died on North Korean territory.
  • Russia's ambassador in North Korea, Alexander Matsegora, presented the award to the country's Foreign Minister Ri Son-gwon.

IIT Bombay Professor Wins Young Career Award

  • Professor Saurabh Lodha from electrical engineering, IIT Bombay, has received the Young Career Award in Nano Science & Technology for the year 2020 instituted by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government. of India.
  • This award recognises his pioneering contributions in the development of logic transistor technologies beyond silicon and nanoelectronic devices based on two-dimensional Van der Waals materials.
  • Professor Lodha's recent work in the area of advanced transistors has been driven by strong industry partnerships.
  • He has worked closely with Applied Materials, the world's largest semiconductor equipment manufacturer, for the last eight years on technological challenges plaguing beyond-silicon transistors- the workhorse device that fuels over 90% of all electronics.

Jharkhand Unveils Three Schemes to Add Rural Jobs

  • Three days after the first batch of stranded migrants returned to the state, chief minister Hemant Soren launched three employment schemes for more than six lakh migrant labourers who are returning to the state in a phased manner.
  • Aimed at reviving the rural economy which has been hit badly by the ongoing lockdown, the three new schemes — Birsa Harit Gram Yojana, Neelambar Pitambar jal Sammridhi Yojana and Poto Ho Khel Vikas Yojana — will be run by the rural development department under the MNREGA mission.

CSIR-IGIB and TATA Sons Sign MoU for licensing 'KNOWHOW'

  • For rapid diagnosis of Covid-19, an MoU was signed between Council of Scientific and Industrial Research's (CSIR) constituent lab, Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (CSIR-IGIB) and TATA Sons for licensing of 'KNOWHOW' for FNCAS9 Editor Linked Uniform Detection Assay (FELUDA) for rapid diagnosis of Covid19.
  • A completely indigenous scientific invention, FELUDA for Covid-19 has been designed for mitigating the ongoing Covid-19 situation and cater to mass testing.
