Saudi Arabia Assures India Of Uninterrupted LPG supply

  •  India's oil minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that he had discussed global oil market developments with Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman and Aramco's Chief Executive Amin Nasser as well as uninterrupted LPG supplies to India.
  • Prince Abdulaziz assured of LPG supplies in the coming days to support our domestic requirement, Dharmendra Pradhan posted.
  • Two Indian refiners declared force majeure on crude purchases from the Middle East after fuel demand plummeted due to a nationwide lockdown to stem the spread of coronavirus and the companies' tanks are full.

Delay Brexit Deadline Amid Coronavirus, Say MEPs

  •  Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been urged by a group of MEPs to delay his Brexit deadline as countries around the world battle the coronavirus.
  • The European Parliament's largest group of MEPs said the pandemic puts pressure on the chance of securing a trade deal by the planned date.
  • The PM's spokesman insisted there were no plans to change the timetable.
  • It comes as EU and UK representatives met to discuss implementing the Brexit withdrawal agreement over video link.
  • Under the agreement, the UK enters a transition period where it will continue to follow EU rules until 31 December 2020, by which time both sides say they hope to have agreed a trade deal.

RBI Raises FPI Investment Limit In Corporate Bonds To 15%

  • The Reserve Bank of India has increased the limit for Foreign portfolio investors (FPI) investment in corporate bonds to 15% of outstanding stock for FY 2020-21.
  • Revised investment limit for FPI investment in corporate bonds shall be Rs 5,41,488 crore for HY Oct 2020-Mar 2021.
  • The existing investment limit for FPI investment in corporate bonds stands at Rs 3.17 lakh crore, while the revised limit shall be Rs 4,29,244 crore for HY Apr 2020-Sep 2020 and Rs 5,41,488 crore for HY Oct 2020-Mar 2021.
  • The revised limits for FPI investment in Central Government securities (G-secs) and State Development Loans (SDLs) for FY 2020-21 will be advised separately.

IAG Sells Exits SBI General Insurance, 26 pc Stake For USD 310 mn

  • SBI on Monday said Australia's IAG has sold its entire 26 per cent stake in the lender's general insurance joint venture SBI General Insurance Co Ltd for USD 310 million (about Rs 2,325 crore).
  • The stake has been sold to Premji Invest and Warburg Pincus group.
  • "IAG (Insurance Australia General) is pleased to advise it has completed the sale of its 26 per cent interest in SBI General in India. The associated transactions were first announced on October 17, 2019," SBI said in a regulatory filing, referring to IAG's disclosure on Australian Securities Exchange about the sale.
  • As a result, IAG will book a net profit on sale of its interest in SBI General of approximately USD 310 million in the second half of FY20, as per IAG's filing to the Australian exchange.

Punjab National Bank Unveils New Logo Ahead Of Merger

  •  Ahead of its merger with the United Bank of India (UBI) and the Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC) from April 1, 2020 Punjab National Bank (PNB) unveiled a new logo which bears the signages of all the three PSU banks. From the next financial year, PNB will become the second largest lender in India after the State Bank of India (SBI).
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has already issued a statement that the merger will take place as scheduled on April 1. There were concerns that the 21-day nationwide lockdown might impact the mega merge plan in which 10 state-owned banks will be merged into four bigger and stronger banks.
  • OBC and UBI are the transferor banks while PNB is the transferee in this amalgamation process. The boards of UBI and OBC will cease to exist from April 1, 2020.

Postponed Tokyo Olympics To Open 23 July Next Year

  •  The Tokyo Olympics will begin on July 23 next year after the coronavirus forced the historic decision to postpone the Games until 2021.
  • "The Olympics will be held from July 23 to August 8, 2021. The Paralympics will be held from August 24 to September 5," Tokyo 2020 chief Yoshiro Mori told.

Mandatory for Cable Operators to Carry 25 DD, Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha TV Channels

  •  The government asked cable operators to mandatorily broadcast 25 Doordarshan channels and Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha TV, saying "non-carriage" of these channels is liable for action under the law.
  • The Information and Broadcasting Ministry said action against cable operator could be taken under the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995.
  • The ministry has notified 25 DD and Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha TV channels that are to be mandatorily carried by the multiple system operators (MSOs) and cable operators on their networks.

  • The Trifed VanDhan GIS based website, the future medium of communication for 50 lakh tribal gatherers was launched on line for testing with 27 State teams participating, on 27 March 2020. TRIFED is arranging atleast 2 team meetings every day and the Team is reaching out to partners to keep moving forward.

Jharkhand Govt launches Pragyaam App for Essential Deliveries

  • Jharkhand Govt has launched the Pragyaam app to issue e-passes to those working in essential services. Jharkhand CM, Hemant Soren launched this app on March 30, 2020. The District Transport Officers will be responsible to issue e-passes to the vehicles carrying the essentials.
  • Pragyaam is an android app that can be easily downloaded from Google play store. The locally-designed app will issue passes to those associated with medical supply services, banking, regular supplies, and other essential services.

Veteran Japanese Comedian Ken Shimura Passes Away At 70 From Coronavirus

  •  Veteran Japanese comic Ken Shimura, who tested positive for the novel coronavirus last week, has died at the age of 70. The actor was hospitalised in Tokyo on March 20 after developing a fever and being diagnosed with severe pneumonia. Shimura tested positive for COVID-19 on March 23, 2020.
  • A household name in Japan since the 1970s, Shimura was the first prominent entertainment world figure in Japan to test positive for the virus.
  • The actor was set to star in his first feature film "God of Cinema", directed by Yoji Yamada.

Alan Merrill, Songwriter Of 'I Love Rock 'N' Roll', Dies At 69

  •  Musician-songwriter Alan Merrill has passed away due to complications from the coronavirus. He was 69. The recording artiste died in New York Sunday, his daughter Laura Merrill confirmed the news on Facebook.
  • Alan Merrill was born in the Bronx in New York City and went on to become a member of the band The Arrows along with drummer Paul Varley and guitarist Jake Hooker, reported Deadline. As part of the music group, Alan Merrill wrote the hit number "I love rock 'n' roll", which released in 1975. The song would later become a chart topper for Joan Jett & The Blackhearts in 1982.

  •  Rajasthan Day is celebrated every year on March 30 to commemorate the day on which the state of Rajasthan came into existence. Rajasthan Day commemorates the valor, strong willpower and sacrifice of the people of Rajasthan. Rajasthan earlier known as Rajputana came into existence on March 30, 1949. EPCH Cancels 49th Edition Of IHGF-Delhi Fair Spring -2020

  •  Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) has cancelled the 49th edition of IHGF – Delhi Fair Spring-2020in view of present status of COVID-19 in India and abroad. Director General of EPCH, Rakesh Kumar said that as the nation is in a state of lock down, it has become unviable to organize a show of such magnitude in near future.
  • Earlier,the fair scheduled to be held from 15 – 19 April, 2020was postponed hoping that the COVID-19 situation would improve and faircould  be organized sometime in June/July.
  • Over 10,000 visitors, including 7000 overseas buyers and their representatives, were expected to turn up for the show which was to host over 3200 exhibitors displaying best of the Indian handicrafts from all across the country. Handicraft being  cluster based activity,the exports from major craft clusters like Moradabad, Saharanpur, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Agra, Narsapur, Firozabad, North-eastern region and many others is going to be affected with the cancellation of this fair.
  • The 50th edition of IHGF-Delhi Fair Autumn will be organized from 14-18 October 2020 at India Expo Centre & Mart, Greater Noida in Delhi NCR.

Jharkhand Announces Distribution of Two Months' Ration Due to Coronavirus Lockdown

  • Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren said his government has decided to provide two months ration in advance to the beneficiaries of the public distribution system, as the country entered the second day of the lockdown to contain the coronavirus outbreak.
  • Around 90 per cent of the families in the state will benefit from this decision, he said.
  • Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Rai Mahimapat Ray said the administration has launched an app — VeggiGo — for people to place order for essential commodities.

Govt Extends Interest Subsidy On Small Crop Loans Till May 31

  • Amid the lockdown to curb COVID-19, farmers will continue to get short-term loan of up to Rs 3 lakh at a subsidised interest rate of seven per cent, and prompt repayers will get it at four per cent as the government extended the subsidy to banks till May 31, 2020.
  • In a statement, the agriculture ministry said the interest subsidy has been extended to all crop loans of up to Rs 3 lakh given by banks which are due or will be due between March 1, 2020 and May 31, 2020.
  • Under the Interest Subvention Scheme, a subvention of two per cent per annum is provided for short-term crop loan of up to Rs 3,00,000 per farmer, provided the lending institutions make available short-term credit at the ground level at seven per cent per annum to farmers.

CM Adityanath Transfers Rs 611 Crore To MGNREGA Workers

  •  Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath  transferred Rs 611 crore directly to the bank account of workers of the state under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). The fund was transferred to 27.5 lakh labourers. The amount was pending dues of MGNREGA workers who get 100 days of work in a year under the law.
