Daiki to Set Up Unit in A.P.

  •  Japan-based Daiki Aluminium Industry Co. Ltd. through its Indian subsidiary, will be setting up an aluminium alloy plant at Sri City in Andhra Pradesh.
  • Daiki Aluminium Industry India Pvt. Ltd. would make an initial investment of Rs. 250 crore.
  • The plant is expected to go on stream by February 2020.
  • The plant will produce aluminium alloy ingots. It will have an annual capacity of 84,000 tonnes. The products will be exported to automobile companies in ASEAN and Japan.

Intain Fintech to Launch Software Product

  •  Intain Fintech, an AI and block chain-based software products firm will be launching eMulya, an intelligent block chain that facilitates efficient, secure and trustworthy asset securitisation transactions for NBFCs in India by end-2019. 

Rupee-dollar Swap

  •  The RBI's decision to infuse rupee liquidity through long term foreign exchange swap, a first of its kind in liquidity management policy, is likely to boost investments by foreign portfolio investors under the voluntary retention route (VRR).
  • The central bank will conduct dollar-rupee buy/sell swap action of $5 billion for a three-year tenor, on March 26.
  • Such a swap route has been explored by various emerging market economies as an effective tool to manage liquidity.
  • Apart from liquidity infusion, the move will boost the country's foreign exchange reserves and is likely to support the exchange rate.

Williamson Gets Hadlee Medal

  •  Kiwi captain Kane Williamson claimed the coveted Sir Richard Hadlee Medal for Men's Player of the Year at the New Zealand Cricket (NZC) awards.
  • Williamson also took home the Test Player of the Year award and the Redpath Cup for First Class batting.
  • Ross Taylor, Trent Boult and Colin Munro also received major awards, while teenaged all-rounder Amelia Kerr was a big winner among the women.

Special Olympics World Games

  •  With impressive numbers coming from powerlifting and roller-skating, India finished the Special Olympics World Games with a rich haul of 368 medals, including 85 gold and 154 silver.
  • It's a record haul for the country which fielded a 284-member team.

India Drops in UN World Happiness Report

  •  India figured among the lowest 20 of the 156 nations ranked on this year's UN World Happiness Report.
  • India came in 140th this year, dropping seven places from 133 last year. As a result, India featured in the five countries that had the largest drop since 2005-2008 in the index, along with Yemen, Syria, Botswana and Venezuela.
  • None of the world's major economic powerhouses made it to the top 10. 
  • Finland topped the index of the happiest nations for the second year in a row.

India's Deepest Shaft Cave

  •  Barely a year after the discovery of the world's longest sandstone cave Krem Puri in Mawsynram region of Meghalaya's East Khasi Hills district, now a cave with the deepest shaft in the country has been discovered.
  • The discovery was made during the 28th edition of the annual 'Caving in the Abode of the Clouds Expedition' that took place between February 3 and 28.
  • In the process, Krem Um Ladaw that has the deepest shaft in the country was discovered.
  • Though located on the valley floor, Krem Um Ladaw yielded an astonishing 105 m deep shaft entrance passage.

  •  Prominent Indian-American lawyer Neomi Jehangir Rao has been sworn in as US Circuit Judge for the powerful District of Columbia Circuit Court of Appeals, replacing the controversial Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Brazil's Ex-President Detained

  •  Brazil's ex-President Michel Temer was arrested as part of a sprawling anti-corruption probe. Police arrested Mr. Temer in Sao Paulo.
  • Former Mines and Energy Minister Moreira Franco was also detained.

  • The day is used to advocate for the sustainable management of freshwater resources. World Water Day is celebrated around the world with a variety of events.
  • The first World Water Day, designated by the United Nations, was commemorated in 1993.
  • The theme of 2019 is about tackling the water crisis by addressing the reasons why so many people are being left behind. The theme for 2019 is 'Leaving no one behind'.

NEET Score is Valid for Three Years

  •  The National Eligibility-cum- Entrance Test (NEET) score is valid for three years for Indian students wanting to pursue undergraduate medical courses abroad.
  • Clearing the long-existing confusion about the validity of the NEET score, a notification by the Medical Council of India, Board of Governors stated: "Result of NEET shall be valid for a period of three years from the date of declaration of result, entitling a candidate to pursue MBBS or equivalent medical course including pre-medical/language course, if any, followed by MBBS or equivalent medical course."
  • About 7,000 students from India opt for foreign medical degrees annually.
