The United States offered a $1 million reward for information on a son of late Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, seeing him as an emerging face of extremism.
The location of Hamza bin Laden, sometimes dubbed the "crown prince of jihad," has been the subject of speculation for years with reports of him living in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria or under house arrest in Iran.
Hamza bin Laden is the son of deceased former AQ leader Osama bin Laden and is emerging as a leader in the AQ franchise.
Bin Laden has threatened attacks against the United States to avenge the 2011 killing of his father.
Historic Gun-control Law
The US House of Representatives passed a legislation to expand background check for gun buyers to include online transactions and at gun shows and fairs, in the first attempt at reforming firearms laws in a generation.
The Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019 was passed in a 240-190 vote along party lines, with Democrats all in favour and Republicans against it.
The bill proposes to expand federal background checks to online buyers firearms and at gun shows, that are currently not covered.
In a second measure also passed, the time given to FBI to complete the background check was increased from 3 to 10 days.
The world's largest chain of convenience stores, 7-Eleven, will make its India debut later in 2019.
Mumbai-based Future Group owned Future Retail has signed a master franchise agreement through its subsidiary, SHME Food Brands, with 7-Eleven Inc. to develop and operate 7-Eleven stores in Asia's third-largest economy.
This will make India the company's 18th market.
Under the deal, 7-Eleven will support Future Retail in implementing and localising the unique 7-Eleven business model. Future Group will add new stores and even convert some of its existing ones to 7-Elevens.
Future Retail will be allowed to do sub-franchising as part of the agreement.
Bilateral Swap Arrangement with Japan
The Reserve Bank of India and Bank of Japan have completed signing of the agreement for Bilateral Swap Arrangement (BSA) between India and Japan.
This BSA provides India to access 75 billion in US dollars whereas the earlier BSA had provided for US $50 billion.
The BSA was approved by the Union Cabinet in January 2019.
India can access the agreed amount of USD 75 billion for its domestic currency, for the purpose of maintaining an appropriate level of balance of payments or short-term liquidity.
Adani Becomes 3rd Largest in One Single Swoop
The Adani Group, which has just won the mandate to run all the six government-owned airports that were put up for privatisation, will become the third largest private operator in passenger volume after the GMR group and GVK group.
The diversified Adani Group is marking its entry into the airports space after bagging a 50-year contract for operation, management and development of the Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Jaipur, Guwahati, Thiruvanathapuram and Mangalore airports after quoting revenue share in the range of Rs. 115 to Rs. 177 per passenger.

James DeGale Hangs up His Gloves
Former two-time super middleweight world champion James DeGale announced his retirement days after he took a pummelling from fellow Briton Chris Eubank Junior.
He had won the middleweight Olympic gold in Beijing in 2008.
De Gale was the first British pugilist to progress from the Olympics to a world title after turning professional.
He won the IBF world title belt in the United States in 2015 against Andre Dirrell before defending it three times across the Atlantic.
India is ready to go ahead with the March 14 meeting with Pakistan to finalise the modalities of the Kartarpur corridor, amid tense bilateral ties between the two neighbours.
India is still ready for the discussion on the Kartarpur issue as it affects a sizeable number of Indians. The proposal for talks came from the Pakistani side and was accepted by India.
India and Pakistan agreed to give access to Sikh pilgrims from the Indian side to Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib. Both laid foundation stones for the project in November 2018.
Minimum 6-month Residual Period of Retirement
As per the Supreme Court, a police officer empanelled for the post of Deputy General of Police (DGP) should have a residual period of retirement of at least six months.
A bench led by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi said that it is likely to tweak its own 2006 judgement on police reforms so that states do not misuse directions given in it.
The court had then said the DGP, the highest ranking police officer of a state, must have a fixed two-year tenure irrespective of the retirement age.

The day aims to promote equality before the law and in practice throughout all of the member countries of the UN.
The day was first celebrated on March 1, 2014, and was launched by UNAIDS Executive Director Michel Sidibé on 27 February of that year with a major event in Beijing.
World Civil Defence Day
World Civil Defence Day, created by decision of the ICDO General Assembly in 1990, is celebrated every year on the 1st of March. This Day commemorates the entry into force of the ICDO Constitution as an intergovernmental organisation in 1972 and has two main purposes:
Of bringing to the attention of the world public the vital importance of Civil Protection and of raising awareness of the preparedness for, and prevention and self-protection measures in the event of accidents or disasters;
Of paying tribute to the efforts, sacrifices and accomplishments of all the national services responsible for the fight against disasters.
The Union cabinet approved the National Policy on Software Products 2019 (NPSP-2019) that proposes a Rs. 5,000 crore software product development fund, and permitted "trusts" to set up units in special economic zones (SEZs).
The NPSP-2019 will create $70 billion software products industry by 2025, about a 10-fold jump from the existing level of $7.1 billion.
The policy provides for nurturing 10,000 technology startups in software product industry, including 1,000 such technology startups in smaller cities and aims to generate 3.5 million employment opportunity by 2025.
The present provision of the SEZs Act, 2005 do not permit 'trusts' to set up units in SEZs. The amendment will enable a trust to be considered for grant of permission to set up a unit in SEZs.
J&K Laws to Effect 10% Reservation for EWS People
The Union cabinet rolled out 10% reservation for economically weaker sections (EWS) in educational institutions and government jobs in Jammu and Kashmir and approved the benefit of promotion in service to the Scheduled Castes and Schedule Tribes.
The new reservations will come in addition to existing quotas in the state.
The Centre also announced an ordinance will be promulgated to bring people residing in areas adjoining the international border within the ambit of reservation on a par with those living in areas adjoining the Actual Line of Control, in a move aimed at reaching out to the Jammu region.
The Union home ministry said that there had been no change in respect of Article 370 or 35A.
The Union cabinet cleared a host of proposals ahead of the imminent announcement of the Lok Sabha election schedule, approved "the proposal of Jammu & Kashmir Government regarding amendment to the Constitution (Application to Jammu & Kashmir) 0rder, 1954 by way of the Constitution (Application to Jammu & Kashmir) Amendment Order, 2019."

Institutions from the US dominate the list with 28 first ranks, followed by the UK whose institutions emerged on top in 13 disciplines.
Indian institutions failed to make it to the top 100 in most lists and, even when they did, it was mostly in the 51-100 category.
