Polish Author Wins Man Booker International

'Flights', a philosophical rumination on modern-day travel by Polish author Olga Tokarczuk, won the Man Booker International Prize for works of translated fiction.

Ms. Tokarczuk shared the prize of £50,000 ($67,000) with the book's English-language translator, Jennifer Croft.
The Man Booker International Prize is awarded by the same organisation that gives the Man Booker Prize for fiction.

Flexibility in Dealing with Kim

U.S. President Donald Trump opened the door to a phased dismantling of North Korea's nuclear weapons programme, backing away from his demand that the North's leader, Kim Jong-un, completely abandon his arsenal without any reciprocal U.S. concessions.

The hint of flexibility came after North Korea declared last week that it would never agree to unilaterally surrender its weapons.

First Country to Use US-made F-35 in Combat

The Israeli air force chief said that Israel is the first country to have used the US-made F-35 stealth fighter in combat.

Manufactured by Lockheed Martin Corp, the F-35 is also known as the Joint Strike Fighter and, in Israel, by its Hebrew name "Adir" (Mighty).
Israel is the first country outside the United States to acquire the F-35.

First German City to Ban Older Diesel Cars

Hamburg is to become the first German city to ban some diesel cars to improve air quality, setting a template for other urban centres in the country.

The ban will affect about 214,000 cars, more than two-thirds of the diesel vehicles registered in Germany's second-largest city.

The National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog) and ABB India have signed a Statement of Intent to support the government's vision of "Make in India" through advanced manufacturing technologies that incorporate the latest developments in robotics and artificial intelligence.

Amendments to Bankruptcy Code

The Cabinet cleared amendments to the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), incorporating changes suggested by a government appointed panel.

A 14-member Insolvency Law Committee had made suggestions to the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, including addressing woes of home buyers and making recoveries easier for lenders.

 Indica Compact Car Phased Out

Tata Motors announced that it would phase out the Indica compact car and its platform mate Indigo eCS.

Tata Indica was launched in 1998. It was the first passenger car from Tata Motors and it is also considered to have been India's first indigenously developed passenger car.

Satellites GRACE-FO

SpaceX has successfully launched twin NASA satellites GRACE-FO (Follow-On) that will track Earth's water cycle, i.e. water movement and icemelt.

GRACE-FO is a joint project between Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and German Research for Geosciences (GFZ).

Alien Asteroid Discovered

Scientist have discovered an asteroid named Oumuamua (or (514107) 2015BZ509) nesting in Jupiter's orbit that migrated from another star system. It makes it the first permanent immigration to our solar system.

AB de Villiers Announced His Retirement

Former South African captain AB de Villiers announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket.

De Villiers has played 114 Tests, 228 ODIs and 78 T20 Internationals for South Africa. His last appearance was in South Africa's final Test in what turned out to be a controversial series against Australia.
He made his Test debut in December 2004 and ODI debut in February 2005.

Kumaraswamy Sworn in as CM of Karnataka

H.D. Kumaraswamy was sworn in as the 30th Chief Minister of Karnataka, with a galaxy of national and regional leaders in attendance in a show of non-BJP opposition unity ahead of Lok Sabha polls.

Karnataka Congress President G. Parameshwara took oath as the Deputy Chief Minister and Congress' Ramesh Kumar, a former minister, is the new Assembly Speaker. The Congress will have 22 ministers and JD(S) 12 in Kumaraswamy's Cabinet.
