A man buys grocery worth Rs. 200 from a shop. The shopkeeper sells the goods with zero profit. The man gives him 1000 Rupees note. The shopkeeper doesn't have change with him so he gets the change from the neighbouring shopkeeper and keeps Rs. 200 for himself and returns Rs. 800 to the man. Later the shopkeeper of the neighbouring shop comes with the same 1000 Rs. note saying "FAKE" and takes his money back and returns the fake note to him. Now the shopkeeper was puzzled as how much was the LOSS for him in this entire transaction. Can you tell the actual LOSS amount?

Didn't get it. rs 200 goods were sold and rs 800 returned so loss will be rs 1000 towards customer as 1000 rs was fake. rs 1000 returned back to neighbour --so the loss has to be 2000

Suppose he had Zero amount. Borrowed (not consideration as the note was fake) Rs.1000,given Rs 800 to customer and kept Rs 200. Now, Rs 200 worth Goods plus Rs 800 as Money. Rs 1000 loss on regards of customer. Moreover he has Rs 200 near him and pays back Rs 1000 to the neighbour which means Rs 800 was withdrawn from his drawer. So loss in regards of Neighbour would be Rs 1000-200= Rs 800 (as he had no money earlier). Hence, the total loss would be= Rs 1000 800 = Rs 1800.

Correct answer is Rs. 2000 Because the customer gets the Rs. 200 item for free and take Rs. 800 from the shopkeeper and later the neighbour shopkeeper give his fake note and takes his Rs. 1000 from him.

Wouldn't the loss be 1800? S gave 800Rs away to C, he can't really get those back cus C took off with it and then N took the 1000Rs back. So the 800Rs he gave as a change to C plus the 1000Rs N took back.
