Anshul Garg, Topic-Even though globalization affects the world’s economies in a positive way, its negative side should not be forgotten. Discuss. Globalization means increasing the interdependence, connectivity and integration on a global level. Due to globalization, global mass media connects all the people in the world which reduces cultural barriers and global village dreams . Free trade between countries increases which helps in increase in liquidity of capital and helps developed countries to invest in developing countries . The civil liberties are enhanced and there is a more efficient use of resources. All the countries involved in the free trade are at a profit. As a result, there are lower prices, more employment and a better standard of life in these developing nations. It increases the flexibility of corporations to operate across borders increases due to which worldwide production markets emerges which results in broad access to a range of goods for consumers and companies .Globalization not only facilitates international trade but also increases international travel and tourism. Worldwide sporting events like the Olympic Games and the FIFA World Cup are held which facilitates not only tourism but also increases foreign currency reserves in the country which in turn improves the economic condition of the country.Due to Globalization immigration between countries increases. Even though globalization affects the world’s economies in a positive way, its negative side should not be forgotten.Globalization has led to exploitation of labor. Prisoners and child workers are used to work in inhumane conditions. Safety standards are ignored to produce cheap goods, Companies have set up industries causing pollution in countries with poor regulation of pollution. Local industries are being taken over by foreign multinationals which leads to exploitation of consumers by increasing prices which has reduced the governments ability to sustain social welfare schemes in developed countries. Multinational Companies and corporations which were previously restricted to commercial activities are increasingly influencing political decisions.Globalization had also put negative impact on society e.g There is increase in Human Trafficking .Enemy nations are spreading information especially of a biased or misleading nature, which is promoting a political cause or point of view.through the Internet. Bad aspects of foreign cultures are affecting the local cultures through TV and the Internet. Terrorists have access to sophisticated weapons enhancing their ability to inflict damage and they use the Internet for communicating among themselves.Countries need to make strict provision in laws in order to ensure that above negative effects of Globalization do not affect developing countries then only poor or developing nations would be able to experience positive effects of Globalization.
