Monarch books who have a well established business for books is recommended to open a cafe in its store to attract more number of customers and also to give healthy competition to its rival firm-Regal books. They propose the idea of constructing a cafe by closing the children's book collection . They think of discontinuing this section by considering the national census which indicates a decrease in the population under age 10.
I would oppose their decision of discontinuing the kids section as there could be a serious downfall in their business. It is because it might be only the kids or parents of the kids who are regular customers of their cafe to buy books for their kids. Once the main reason of the parents visiting the cafe eradicates there could be a downfall in the business in other sections of the books too as those parents may contribute a significant proportion of buying the other books too presnt in other sections, but now they prefer those book stores where there is a full collection of books for not only their kids but also have books ranging for their age group.
Moreover, the board of directors arrive at a decision of discarding the kids section due to a decrease in the percentage of population of children below age 10 as revealed by a recent national census, but the decline in percentage does not mean a decline in number. So a significant decline in the percentage does not mean that children in that age group have reduced in number rather it implies that though there is an increase in the number of people in that age group but the overall ratio has decreased. So relying only upon the percentage, decision should not be a taken for opening a cafe.
In addition to it, the presence of the cafe in the same area could turn out to be source of distraction for their focused customers who enjoy serene and calm ambience. Also the presence of a cafe may lead to an increase in garabage and litter around the area which could mar the reputation of the Monarch book store and therefore people could hesitate to visit there. Some people may only visit the cafe for leisure and pass time and dont have any penchant for reading books which could badly affect the core business of the store.
Apart from the above mentioned factors there are certain other factors which wekens the argument, like we are not known by the location of the Regal cafe . As it might be in an area where there is no other cafe around and that could be the core reason that why people were visting that cafe. Also the Regal books might be facing a loss in their business , so they switched on to this alteranate way of earning money to make both their ends meet.
So, despite of opening a cafe like Regal bookstore they should concentrate on increasing the quality of books provided by their store and should open up online facilities too in order to atract more number of cestomers and to turn their business more lucrative.
It is therefore concluded that the entire argument could not persuade many readers as it contains many weak evidences and lacks proper detail of each and every factor. Had the board of directors charterd all the above mentioned factors, then only t he argument could be analysed in a more better way.
