Censorship is set to curb the speech, information and ideas circulated within a society. Its aim is to suppress ideas found to be objectionable or offensive. The topic claims that censorship is rarely, if ever justified. Though, there are both benefits and drawbacks of censorship. We live in a society where people came from different backgrounds, religions and classes. What is acceptable to one class may not be acceptable to another category. If there is any matter which aries against the laws or values of a particular class. For example, news regarding sensitive racial issue, use of expletives in movies and books can arouse public anger which may further give rise to riots or a state of social unrest. Hence, it is best to restrict these kind of issues for maintaining peace and harmony in the society. For example, A child can gets affected very easily by many things that he sees and hears in his tender age. If he is exposed to violent packed movies it can affect his mind and also his attitude. In this case, it become very important to sensor these kind of movies that portray aggressive behaviour for children. There is also parent's duty to restrict at a personal level, whereas censor board keeps a general check and restrict such movies for kids under a certain age group. Censorship, used appropriately can help to maintain control and stability in a society but the excessive censorship may produce the harmful effects. There are some knowledge that are unsuitable for public, but there are also many types of information that spread awareness in the society. By restricting those issues many social problems may go unnoticed or unvoiced. Creativity, innovation and generation with fresh ideas results in the progression of a society, by suppressing such ideas may lead to stagnation. In sum, use of censorship is not necessarily justified every time. The appropriate use of censorship is required as to filter the violent or erotic contents. As they have the responsibility of maintaining harmony in the society but excessive censorship also abolish creativity and ideas.
