There is no open and shut case on this. While it may make sense to put off unpleasant things or time consuming ones for some time it would depend on WHAT you are actually putting off. If that "thing" is critical to achieving identified key targets no matter how unpleasant or time consuming you have to go about addressing it. How you would overcome the hassles and hazards therein would depend on culture of the organization among other things. We may need to appreciate change management dynamics under such situations. If something needs to be resolved, being on denial mode like an ostrich might be suicidal for the team /organizational on the long run!
