Netflix to Acquire Warner Bros Discovery Studios and Streaming Business for $72 Billion

  • In a seismic shift for the global entertainment industry, Netflix has agreed to acquire Warner Bros Discovery's TV and film studios along with its streaming assets in a landmark $72 billion deal. Announced in December 2025, the acquisition will hand the world's largest streaming platform control over iconic franchises such as Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, and DC Comics, dramatically altering the power structure of Hollywood.

Prasar Bharati Signs MoUs With Russian Media Organisations

  • Prasar Bharati entered into memoranda of understanding with Russian media organisations during Russian President Putin's State visit to India, for cooperation in the field of broadcasting, content sharing and information exchange.
  • The organisations include Joint Stock Company Gazprom-media Holding; National Media Group, BIG ASIA Media Group, ANO TV-Novosti, and TV BRICS. According to a release by Gamprom Media, the agreement was signed by its CEO Alexander Zharov and Prasar Bharati CEO Gaurav Dwivedi.

Amit Shah, Gujarat CM Patel Inaugurates Earth Summit 2025-26 in Gandhinagar

  • The Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in December 2025, inaugurated the 2nd edition of two-day "Earth Summit 2025-26" at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar and also launched more than 13 new services and products under the 'Sahakar Sarathi' initiative. The new offerings include Digi KCC, Campaign Sarathi, Website Sarathi, Cooperative Governance Index, ePACS, the World's Largest Grain Storage Application, Shiksha Sarathi and Sarathi Technology Forum.
  • The summit is jointly organised by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI). On this occasion, the Union Cooperation Minister and the Chief Minister also visited various stalls at the event. Legislative Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary, State Agriculture and Cooperation Minister Jitu Vaghani, and Deputy Speaker of the Assembly Jethabhai Ahir graced the event.

  • Zen Technologies has been awarded a major contract from the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, totaling Rs. 120 crore to set up India's first Combat Training Node (CTN), at the Infantry School, the alma mater of the Infantry located at Mhow, Madhya Pradesh.

Indian Army Hosts Inno-Yoddha 2025 to Promote Soldier-Led Innovation

  • The Indian Army conducted its annual Idea and Innovation Competition and Seminar, Inno-Yoddha 2025 in New Delhi. The event was attended by Lieutenant General Pushpendra Pal Singh, Vice Chief of the Army Staff, who felicitated the selected innovators. The Ministry of Defence informed that this year's edition recorded 89 submissions, the highest so far, reflecting the growing culture of innovation within the forces. After an evaluation, 32 innovations were chosen for further development. These soldier-driven solutions aim to strengthen operational readiness, logistics efficiency and training standards across the Army. It added that over the past five years, the Army's innovation ecosystem has delivered notable results.

  • The 70th Mahaparinirvan Diwas commemorated by Dr. Ambedkar Foundation (DAF) on behalf of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, At Prerna sthal Parliament House Campus, in December 2025, near the statue of Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
  • The commemoration of the 70th Mahaparinirvan Diwas began with a floral tribute from the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, Vice-President of India, C.P Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, Speaker, Om Birla, Deputy Speaker Rajya Sabha, Hariwansh Narayan Singh, Leader of the opposition, Parliamentarians, and many other dignitaries who attended the VIP session in the early hours of the day.
  • In the course of time, the entire event will be opened up to the public to pay their obeisance at the feet of the life-size statue of Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar at the Parliament House Lawn. The Mahaparinirvan Diwas of Dr. Ambedkar is annually commemorated by Dr. Ambedkar Foundation (DAF) on behalf of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. This is done to commemorate the death anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, a visionary social reformer, jurist, and politician. He played a significant role in drafting the Indian Constitution and championed the cause of marginalized communities, especially SCs/OBCs/STs/Women. 

Armed Forces Flag Day

  • India observes December 7 as the Armed Forces Flag Day throughout the country to honour the martyrs and the men in uniform who valiantly fought & continue to fight on our borders to safeguard the country's honour. Soldiers are one of the greatest assets of any country. They are the guardians of the nation and protect its citizens at all costs.
  • The idea of Armed Forces Flag Day observation every year was first decided in the year 1949 by the then Defence Minister. He set up a committee to observe a Flag Day every year on December 7. The general idea behind this was the collection of funds from people by distributing flags.

International Civil Aviation Day

  • Every year on December 7, the world commemorates International Civil Aviation Day to raise awareness about the importance of civil aviation and its substantial contribution to various sectors. The day is an occasion to recognise how air connectivity has made global travel easier and more accessible, as well as the difficulties afflicting the civil aviation sector.
  • The day commemorates the foundation of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), the regulatory agency of the United Nations that formulates rules and standards for international air travel. The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) was established 75 years ago to ensure global aviation safety.

Australia's Victoria University Sets Up its First India Campus in Gurugram

  • Victoria University (VU) the foundation for its Delhi NCR Campus, located in Gurugram, Haryana. Once operational, it will become India's first international campus to teach through VU's Block Model. VU was among the first Australian universities granted a licence by the Indian government to establish a campus in India under the new National Education Policy (NEP).
  • The campus is expected to open by mid-2026, launching with undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in business, information technology, and research. Inspired by VU's modern City Tower Campus in Melbourne, the new India campus aims to bring Australian education closer to Indian students at an affordable cost, reducing the need for expensive overseas travel and accommodation.

Delhi Govt Announces Initiative to Include 'AI Skills' in Curriculum for Students Class 6 Onwards

  • The Delhi government has announced the launch of its Delhi AI Grind initiative across all its schools from class 6 onwards. Delhi AI Grind, a citywide AI innovation initiative, shall be implemented across all education districts of Delhi from December to March. The initiative will be for students between the age group of 10-25 years, with mandatory participation for students of classes 6-9 and 11, as per the programme guidelines.

Vijayawada to Host 'Krishnaveni Sangeetha Neerajanam 2025' Carnatic Music Festival

  • The Union Ministry of Tourism, in collaboration with Union Ministry of Culture, Sangeet Natak Akademi, Andhra Pradesh Tourism, and the Andhra Pradesh Department of Culture hold the third edition of the Carnatic music festival Krishnaveni Sangeetha Neerajanam in Vijayawada.
  • The theme for this year – "Celebrating the Richness of Telugu Music Traditions" – aims to highlight Andhra Pradesh's cultural heritage while promoting music tourism, supporting artisans and weavers, and positioning Vijayawada as a growing hub for Carnatic music.
  • Andhra Pradesh Minister for Tourism and Culture Kandula Durgesh inaugurated the festival in the presence of elected representatives, senior officials from the Union Ministry of Tourism, and state tourism authorities.

India, Russia Deepen People-to-People Ties With Labour Pact, Free 30-Day E-Tourist Visas

  • India and Russia, in December 2025, signed agreements to enhance skilled worker mobility and ease travel between the two countries, according to a joint statement issued after talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Vladimir Putin. The agreements are part of the broader efforts to strengthen cultural, educational, and people-to-people ties under the India-Russia Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership.
  • The labour mobility agreement facilitates temporary employment for citizens of one country in the territory of the other, aiming to promote professional exchanges and strengthen economic collaboration. In addition, both countries agreed to grant a 30-day e-tourist visa on a gratis basis to each other's nationals, further simplifying travel and promoting tourism.
