CEC Gyanesh Kumar to Chair International IDEA in 2026

  • Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar is set to assume the Chairship of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA) for 2026.
  • He will take over the position on December 3, 2025, during the Council of Member States meeting in Stockholm, Sweden. As chair, the Chief Election Commissioner will preside over all Council meetings in 2026.
  • As chair, Gyanesh Kumar will leverage India's experience in holding the biggest elections in the world to influence IIDEA's international agenda.
  • International IDEA is an intergovernmental organisation established in 1995 with a core mission to strengthen democratic institutions and processes worldwide. Headquartered in Stockholm, the organisation currently has 35 member countries.

SEBI Proposes Changes to Basic Services Demat Accounts Norms

  • In a move to fine-tune regulations that promote retail investor participation in India's capital markets, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) proposed a key revision to the framework governing Basic Services Demat Accounts (BSDA). In a draft circular released, SEBI suggested that zero-coupon, zero-principal (ZCZP) bonds should be excluded from the valuation of securities used to determine BSDA eligibility. This development comes as part of a broader review of BSDA norms, aimed at aligning the eligibility criteria with the evolving nature of financial instruments and improving the focus on genuine small investors.
  • A Basic Services Demat Account (BSDA) is a simplified demat account facility introduced by SEBI in 2012. It is designed to reduce the cost burden on small and first-time investors by capping annual maintenance charges based on the value of securities held.

PM Inaugurates First Global Aircraft Engine MRO Facility in Hyderabad

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India's first global-level aircraft engine Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility in Hyderabad. Developed by Safran, a French aerospace giant, the facility — known as Safran Aircraft Engine Services India (SAESI) — marks a significant milestone in India's aviation sector.
  • SAESI has been established with an initial investment of Rs. 1,300 crore, located in the GMR Aerospace and Industrial Park – SEZ near Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.
  • The facility will cater to LEAP engines — the world's most widely used aircraft engines powering Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX. This is the first time a global engine OEM has set up deep-level servicing in India.

BHIM Launches Full Delegation Feature for UPI Circle to Net more Users

  • The NPCI BHIM Services Limited (NBSL) announced the introduction of UPI Circle Full Delegation on the BHIM Payments App, allowing primary users to authorise their trusted contacts to make UPI payments on their behalf of up to Rs. 15,000. The move is expected to be a game-changer for senior citizens who have their own bank accounts but often hesitate from making digital payments and young adults who can manage their daily or educational expenses with safe, parent-controlled access.
  • With UPI Circle Full Delegation, a primary user can authorise a secondary user to start and complete UPI payments directly from the primary user's account. The primary user can set a monthly spending limit of up to Rs. 15,000 and choose an expiry duration of up to 5 years.

PM Modi to Launch Skyroot's Multi-Launch Vehicle Facility

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Indian space start-up Skyroot's Infinity Campus via video conferencing. He also unveiled Skyroot's first orbital rocket, Vikram-I, with the capability to launch satellites to orbit. The Infinity Campus spans around 200,000 square feet and boasts the capacity to build one orbital rocket every month.
  • Skyroot is India's leading private space company, founded by Pawan Chandana and Bharath Dhaka, both alumni of the Indian Institutes of Technology and former scientists of ISRO turned entrepreneurs. In November 2022, Skyroot launched its sub-orbital rocket, Vikram-S, becoming the first Indian private company to launch a rocket to space.

  • The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a three-year partnership with Asian Paints as its 'Colour Partner'.
  • With this association Asian Paints joined other brands like Reliance Industries' Campa, SBI Life, and Atomberg Technologies in the official partners segment.
  • The partnership includes men's, women's and domestic series played in the country, according to the release issued by the company. Apart from this, it includes on-ground engagement and digital activations like the setting up of a fan cam named The Asian Paints Colour Cam to showcase the most colourful fans. Additionally, the company will have a colour countdown to bring colour and home decor trends to viewers.

Jammie Booker Disqualified from World's Strongest Woman Title

  • The 2025 World's Strongest Woman competition in Arlington, Texas, witnessed an unprecedented turn of events when Jammie Booker, initially crowned champion, was disqualified following concerns regarding eligibility rules related to biological sex. The incident has triggered widespread debate on transparency and fairness in women's strength sports, drawing global attention to governance standards in elite competitions.
  • Event organisers confirmed that the competition mandates athletes to participate in categories aligned with their biological sex at birth. After questions emerged about Booker's eligibility, officials attempted to contact her but received no response. Based on available information, the organisers removed her from the final standings and disqualified her from the 2025 event.
  • With Booker's disqualification, Great Britain's Andrea Thompson, who had originally finished second, was declared the rightful champion. Thompson, a former titleholder with a distinguished track record in the strongwoman circuit, received widespread support from fellow athletes and the strongman community.

Ahmedabad Officially Secures 2030 Commonwealth Games Hosting

  • Ahmedabad was confirmed as the host city for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, positioning India once again at the centre of a major global sporting spectacle. With the scars of the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games still fresh in global memory, Indian officials have been emphatic in assuring the world that this time will be different. The decision was finalised at the Commonwealth Sport's General Assembly in Glasgow on November 26, 2025, with Ahmedabad's bid edging out Nigeria's Abuja. The Games will coincide with the centenary of the Commonwealth Games Movement, making the 2030 edition symbolically and strategically significant.
  • Organisers have confirmed that the 2030 Games will feature 15 to 17 sports, a significant increase from the 10 events planned for Glasgow 2026. Sports like athletics, swimming, table tennis, bowls, and netball are confirmed, while T20 cricket and triathlon remain under consideration pending final approval.

Andhra Pradesh to Get 3 New Districts; Total Rises to 29

  • The government of Andhra Pradesh approved the creation of three additional districts, increasing the total number of districts in the state from 26 to 29. The decision — cleared by N. Chandrababu Naidu on behalf of the state — also includes the formation of five new revenue divisions and a new mandal, reshaping the administrative map for better governance and local access to civic services.
  • New districts approved are Polavaram, Markapuram and Madanapalle.
  • New revenue divisions proposed are Nakkapalli (Anakapalli district), Addanki (Prakasam), Pileru (Madanapalle), Banaganapalle (Nandyal) and Madakasira (Sri Sathya Sai district).
  • The new to be formed is Pedda Harivanam, by bifurcating Adoni mandal in Kurnool district.

Union Public Service Commission Organises 'Shatabdi Sammelan' as Part of Centenary Year Celebrations

  • The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), organised two days 'Shatabdi Sammelan' as a part of its centenary year celebrations. The Sammelan was held from November 26 and 27, 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. Om Birla, Speaker of the Lok Sabha, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, and Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions), was the Guest of Honour, along with other dignitaries.
  • The event brought together present and former Members and Chairpersons of UPSC and various State Public Service Commissions, senior government officials, and distinguished personalities from Government of India. The two-day Shatabdi Sammelan included a Conference 'Chintan' on the occasion of Constitution Day.

Assam Cabinet Approves Report on Scheduled Tribe Status for 6 Communities

  • In a significant move ahead of next year's Assembly elections, the Assam government approved the Group of Ministers (GoM) report recommending that the Centre grant Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to six communities of the state.
  • The decision comes amid sustained protests by these communities over their long-pending demand. If the Centre grants approval, Assam will be categorised as a tribal state.
  • The report will now be placed before the Assam Legislative Assembly and subsequently forwarded to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.

  • Indian Army Trishakti Corps commenced intensive Army Martial Arts Routine (AMAR) training at altitudes exceeding 14,000 ft, significantly enhancing close-combat readiness in some of the most demanding operational zones along the Northern Borders.
  • According to PRO Defence, this training is conducted in sub-zero temperatures, rarefied air, and rugged terrain. This training aims to prepare soldiers to respond effectively, even when conventional weapons are not immediately available.

Indrajaal Unveils AI-enabled Anti-Drone Patrol Vehicle

  • Hyderabad-based Indrajaal Drone Defence announced the launch of ADPV-a fully mobile, AI-enabled counter-drone system.
  • Named 'Indrajaal Ranger', it is India's "first anti-drone patrol vehicle", engineered to detect, track, and neutralise hostile drones, the company said.
  • The Anti-Drone Patrol Vehicle has been designed as a purpose-built combat vehicle capable of on-the-move drone detection, real-time patrolling and surveillance, autonomous threat assessment through AI, instant interception and neutralisation, and seamless coverage across border roads, canals, agricultural belts, critical infrastructure, and dense urban areas.

Centre Announces Revised Guidelines for SC students under 'Top Class Scholarship Scheme' for 2024-25

  • The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment released updated guidelines for the 'Top Class Scholarship Scheme for SC Students', expanding financial support and tightening institutional accountability for the 2024–25 academic year.
  • The scheme aims to promote quality higher education for Scheduled Caste students by covering full tuition fees and providing academic allowances across India's premier institutions.
  • Under the revised financial norms, the Centre will directly transfer full tuition fees and non-refundable charges to students through DBT, capped at Rs. 2 lakh per year for private institutions.
  • Students will also receive an academic allowance of Rs. 86,000 in the first year and Rs 41,000 in subsequent years to cover living expenses, books and laptops. Beneficiaries will be barred from availing similar scholarships from other Central or State schemes.
