Search for Water Ice on Moon's South Pole to See India-Japan Collaboration

  • India and Japan are preparing among the most ambitious space missions of this decade - a joint lunar exploration that could change the way humanity looks at the Moon. The mission, called Lunar Polar Exploration Mission (LUPEX), also known as Chandrayaan-5, will attempt to land near the Moon's South Pole to search for water ice, a resource that could unlock permanent human presence beyond Earth.
  • The collaboration between Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) is historic. For the first time, the two countries are combining their strengths - India will provide the lander, leveraging its proven technology from Chandrayaan-3, while Japan will contribute its powerful H3 launch vehicle and a sophisticated rover. The mission is slated for launch in 2028.

World Boxing Cup Finals: India Wins Medals in all 20 Categories

  • Indian women boxers, led by star pugilist Nikhat Zareen, lived up to their top billings to claim seven gold medals, while Hitesh Gulia and Sachin Siwach also clinched the coveted yellow metal at the World Boxing Cup Finals in Greater Noida. The hosts finished with at least a medal in all 20 weight categories, signing off with nine gold, six silver and five bronze medals. On a day when 15 Indians took the ring, reigning world champions Jaismine Lamboria (57kg) and Minakshi Hooda (48kg), Asian Games bronze medallist Preeti Pawar (54kg), world bronze medallist Parveen Hooda (60kg), former youth world champion Arundhati Choudhary (70kg) and Nupur Sheoran ( 80kg) also struck gold.
  • This is the first time that India has won in all weight categories in a global championship of the sport. The women's team finished with seven gold, one silver, and two bronze medals, while the men's team finished with two gold, five silver, and three bronze medals.
  • The World Boxing Cup Finals is a tournament incorporated for the first time in the calendar of the new international body of the sport that allows eight boxers to compete in every category, starting from the quarter-finals.

FIDE Announces the List of Players for the 2025 World Rapid and Blitz

  • World Champion Gukesh D. and Magnus Carlsen join over 360 players who have confirmed their participation in the FIDE World Rapid & Blitz Chess Championship in Doha.
  • The event, which will take place from December 25 to 30, brings together a field featuring multiple world champions, most of the sport's highest-rated competitors, and rising stars.
  • Many seasoned elite players such as 2024 World Blitz co-champion Ian Nepomniachtchi, Fabiano Caruana, Anish Giri, Wesley So, and Levon Aronian have also confirmed their participation. Challenging them will be a new generation of contenders seeking to disrupt established hierarchies: Vincent Keymer, Arjun Erigaisi, Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Praggnanandhaa R, Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus, and Ediz Gürel to name just a few.
