Cambodia Backs Fossil Fuel Treaty Initiative at COP30

  • Cambodia formally joined the growing coalition of countries calling for a global Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty, marking a key moment at COP30 in Belem, Brazil. The move strengthens international pressure to include a fossil fuel phase-out roadmap in the summit's final text.
  • During a high-level meeting, Cambodia declared its support for the proposed treaty, bringing the number of formal supporters to eighteen. Several other nations remain observers. Cambodia emphasised that developing countries will require technology transfer, climate finance and capacity-building support to carry out a fair energy transition.

India Re-Elected to Codex Executive Committee

  • At the 48th session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission in Rome, Italy, India reaffirmed its leadership in global food safety and trade governance by being unanimously re-elected to the Codex Executive Committee (CCEXEC) for the Asia region. This re-election secures India's position in the global food standard-setting process until 2027 and highlights its growing influence in international health and trade policy.
  • India's re-election as Member Asia to the Codex Executive Committee was a unanimous decision by the global membership, marking a significant endorsement of its collaborative and technical leadership. This enables India to represent Asian interests in future food standard discussions and ensure balanced participation in Codex's decision-making process.

India Falls 13 Places In Global Climate Change Performance Index

  • India slipped 13 places from its previous ranking to 23rd position in a latest global chart on climate change performance, brought out by a group of three organisations, mainly due to absence of any deadline to exit from coal usage.
  • The Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI) 2026, jointly published and released by Germanwatch, NewClimate Institute and Climate Action Network at the ongoing UN COP30 Climate Summit, is an annual independent monitoring tool for climate mitigation performance of 63 countries and the European Union.
  • The fourth position was held by Denmark with 80.52 points, followed by the UK with 70.8 and Morocco with 70.75. Saudi Arabia was placed at the bottom with a score of 11.9, while Iran and the USA were at 66th and 65th positions with 14.33 and 21.84 points respectively.
  • The top three positions are vacant.

PayU Gets RBI Approval to Operate as Full-Scale Payment Aggregator

  • PayU, a diversified fintech platform, received authorisation from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to operate as a payment aggregator across online, offline and cross-border transactions, including both inward and outward, under the Payment and Settlement Systems (PSS) Act.
  • This approval enables PayU to offer secure, compliant, and seamless payment acceptance, settlement and cross-border solutions for merchants across channels.

  • The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) hosted the Culmination Ceremony of 75th anniversary of National Sample Survey (NSS) on November 18, 2025 at The Ananta, Udaipur. This event marked the successful conclusion of the year-long celebrations held at national/regional level across the country recognising the invaluable contributions of NSS to the development of India's statistical system and providing platforms for dialogue and knowledge exchange to engage with citizens, students, policymakers, academicians, stakeholders, etc.

Indian Army & IAF to Induct 16 Indigenous Laser-Based Drone Defence Systems

  • In a boost to India's aerial security and counter-drone warfare capabilities, the Indian Army and Indian Air Force are set to induct 16 home-grown Integrated Drone Detection and Interdiction Systems (IDDS). These laser-based defence systems, developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), are capable of neutralising enemy drones at a distance of 2 kilometres. The new induction comes at a time when hostile drone activity, including incursions along the border and swarming tactics, pose a growing threat to military and civilian infrastructure.
  • According to defence officials, the Mark 2 version of DRDO's IDDS will use a 10-kilowatt laser beam, enabling twice the engagement range compared to its predecessor, which had a 1-km targeting capability. This laser will be capable of disabling surveillance sensors and damaging drone structures, offering non-kinetic precision defence

India Showcases Defence Strength at Dubai Air Show 2025

  • Raksha Rajya Mantri (RRM) Sanjay Seth led an Indian delegation to the Dubai Air Show 2025, from November 17 to 18, 2025, in the United Arab Emirates. The delegation included senior officers from the Department of Defence, Department of Defence Production, the Ministry of External Affairs, and the Armed Forces.
  • Sanjay Seth inaugurated the India Pavilion set up at the Dubai Air Show. The Pavilion featured stalls from HAL, DRDO, Corel Technologies, Dantal Hydraulics, Image Synergy Ekxplor, SFO Technologies etc.
  • Apart from the Pavilion, 19 Indian industries including Bharat Forge, BrahMos, Tech Mahindra, and HBL Engineering showcased their capabilities independently. In addition, 15 Indian start-ups exhibited their products and solutions. The Indian Air Force participated in the Air Show with the Suryakiran Aerobatic Team and LCA Tejas.
  • Dubai Air Show is a biennial event that hosts more than 1,500 exhibitors and over 148,000 industry professionals from 150 countries, including major international aerospace companies such as Bombardier, Dassault Aviation, Embraer, Thales, Airbus, Lockheed Martin, and Calidus.

7th Meeting of NSAs of Colombo Security Conclave held in New Delhi

  • The 7th Meeting of the National Security Advisers (NSAs) of the Colombo Security Conclave 2025 held in New Delhi. NSA Ajit Doval hosted his counterparts from Member States, including the Maldives, Mauritius, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Seychelles participated as an Observer State, and Malaysia invited as a Guest.
  • The Colombo Security Conclave was formed to promote closer cooperation between Member States on vital matters of security and to strengthen partnership for enhancing regional security in the Indian Ocean region. In keeping with this vision and objective, the 7th Meeting of the NSAs provided an opportunity for the participants to review the activities under the different pillars of cooperation.
  • These pillars include Maritime Safety and Security, Countering Terrorism and Radicalisation, Combating Transnational Organised Crime, Cyber Security and Protection of Critical Infrastructure and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief, and discuss the Roadmap and Action Plan for 2026.

Prestigious National Gopal Ratna Awards 2025 Announced

  • The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying announced the winners of the National Gopal Ratna Awards (NGRA) 2025. The NGRA is one of the highest national honours in the livestock and dairy sector. These awards will be conferred by Union Minister, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying (MoFAHD) and Ministry of Panchayati Raj Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh. Minister of State, MoFAHD Prof. S. P. Singh Baghel and George Kurian will also grace the occasion. These awards will be presented on November 26, 2025 as part of the National Milk Day celebrations. This year, a total of 2,081 applications were received out of which the awardees were selected.

Oscar Piastri Receives Australia's Prestigious Don Award for Exceptional 2025 F1 Season

  • Australian Formula One sensation Oscar Piastri was honoured with the Don Award 2025, the highest accolade in Australian sport, in recognition of his stellar performances during the current F1 season. The announcement celebrates Piastri's impact both on the track and as a symbol of national inspiration.
  • In what is being hailed as a breakthrough season, Piastri secured victories at top-tier Grand Prix events across China, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Miami, Spain, Belgium, and the Netherlands. With multiple podium finishes, pole positions, and consistent points accumulation, he has emerged as a serious contender in the 2025 F1 Drivers' Championship.

  • The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, presented the Sixth National Water Awards and Jal Sanchay-Jan Bhagidari Awards at a special ceremony in New Delhi. The event recognised outstanding efforts in water conservation, efficient water use, and community-driven initiatives that address India's growing water challenges.

PM Fasal Bima Yojana Expands to Cover Crop Loss

  • The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) has been expanded to include crop losses caused by wild animal attacks and inundation of paddy fields, starting with the Kharif season of 2026. This is a significant upgrade to the scheme, providing much-needed insurance relief to farmers suffering from localised damages that were previously excluded. The announcement was made by the Union Agriculture Ministry in response to longstanding demands by farmers, particularly from regions bordering forests and flood-prone zones.
  • PMFBY is a centrally sponsored crop insurance scheme launched in 2016. It protects farmers from financial losses due to natural disasters, pests, and diseases affecting their crops. The scheme is available for both loanee and non-loanee farmers.

No Indian Institute in QS Sustainability top 200 this Year

  • India missed the top 200 band in the QS Sustainability Rankings 2026. The list, released in November 2025, shows a clear drop for most of the country's leading institutions. IIT Delhi, the highest-ranked Indian institution last year, slipped from 171 to 205.
  • IIT Bombay stands at 236, a small slide from 235. IIT Kharagpur dropped to 236 from last year's 202. Most other major institutes show a similar trend.
  • The QS Sustainability rankings measure universities on environmental and social impact. The indicators include environmental research output, reputation in environmental education, and the influence of alumni working in sustainability fields.
  • This year's rankings covered around 2,000 universities. Sweden's Lund University secured the top spot and the University of Toronto second.

Parasocial is Cambridge Dictionary's Word of the Year 2025

  • The Cambridge Dictionary named 'parasocial' its Word of the Year for 2025, reflecting rising public interest in one-sided emotional bonds that people form with celebrities, influencers and increasingly, artificial intelligence systems. The term's surge mirrors changes in digital behaviour and the evolution of online relationships across platforms.
  • 'Parasocia' describes a one-sided connection someone feels toward a public figure they have never met. Originally coined in 1956 by American sociologists Donald Horton and Richard Wohl, the term referred to viewers' perceived closeness with television personalities. Over time, it has expanded to include relationships with online creators and virtual agents.

NLU Jodhpur Wins 20th LAWASIA Moot Court Competition

  • A team from National Law University Jodhpur (NLU Jodhpur) won the 20th LAWASIA Moot Court Competition held in Hanoi, Vietnam.
  • The team comprised Ansh Arora, Paavni Kaur Mago and Bianca Bhardwaj.
  • They competed against Hanoi Law University in the final rounds. The team also won the Spirit of LAWASIA award.
  • OP Jindal Global Law School was the other Indian team participating this year.
  • The moot problem addressed procedural issues of sovereign immunity in arbitration and enforceability of pre-arbitral negotiation steps. It also included concerns of labour law violations, forced labour and questions of fundamental breach and agency under the UNIDROIT Principles.
