Catherine Connolly Becomes 10th President of Ireland

  • In Ireland, Independent left-wing politician Catherine Connolly was elected its 10th President after a landslide victory. She defeated her rival Heather Humphreys. A seasoned politician and political performer, Connolly has been Member of Parliament since 2016 for the Galway West constituency and also served as Deputy Speaker of the Irish Parliament. Official results showed strong voter support for Connolly as President.

President of India Participates in the Celebrations of the 50th anniversary of Angola's Independence

  • At the invitation of President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, President Droupadi Murmu participated in the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of Angola's Independence in November 2025. In a colourful ceremony held at the Praça da República in Luanda, the President joined President Lourenço and witnessed a vibrant display of Angola's military and cultural traditions.

India Reaffirms Commitment to Climate Justice, Multilateralism at COP30 in Brazil

  • India reaffirmed its commitment to the principles of equity, climate justice, and multilateralism at the opening plenary of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) held in Belém, Brazil. Delivering statements on behalf of the BASIC (Brazil, South Africa, India, and China) group and the Like-Minded Developing Countries (LMDC), India underlined that climate action must be rooted in fairness and shared responsibilities.
  • Representing both blocs, India reiterated the importance of the principle of Common but Differentiated Responsibilities and Respective Capabilities (CBDR-RC) and called for the full and effective implementation of the Convention, its Kyoto Protocol, and the Paris Agreement.

India is 9th Worst-affected Due to Extreme Weather Events

  • India ranked among the top 10 countries most affected by extreme weather events, which claimed over eight lakh lives worldwide between 1995 and 2024. Across the country, floods, heat waves, cyclones, and drought caused economic losses of nearly USD 170 billion and over 80,000 fatalities.
  • This data came from 'Climate Risk Index 2026', a new report released in November by the not-for-profit organisation, Germanwatch. The report revealed the extent of devastation by extreme weather events, only exacerbated by climate change, as leaders meet in Brazil for COP30.
  • The 2026 index has Dominica at the top, with the mountainous Caribbean island nation at the highest risk of frequent extreme weather events.
  • Myanmar ranks second, having endured 55 extreme weather events in the last 30 years.
  • India is at ninth, having faced extreme climatic risks such as floods, heatwaves, cyclones, and droughts over the last 30 years.

IndiGo Inks Codeshare Pact with China Southern Airlines

  • IndiGo signed an MoU with China Southern Airlines for a codeshare partnership that will increase its reach and offer better travel options to its customers.
  • The agreement was signed following the launch of IndiGo's Delhi-Guangzhou flight.
  • IndiGo said that the partnership aims to offer enhanced travel options and integrated travel itineraries to customers traveling between India and China on the joint network of both airlines. Customers will also benefit from check-in process among others.

Co-op Banks Now in E-world with 2 Apps

  • Amit Shah launched 'Sahkar Digi-Pay' and 'Sahkar Digi-Loan' Apps - a digital platform enabling quick, paperless, and transparent access to loans and credit for cooperative members across India - at International Conference on Urban Cooperative Credit Sector, and said efforts should be made to establish an urban cooperative bank within next five years in every town with a population of over two lakh.

King's Baton Relay for 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games Begins

  • With the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games closing in, the ceremonial King's Baton Relay kicked off in New Delhi.
  • The King's Baton Relay is the traditional event where the baton carrying the message of the British monarch goes around the Commonwealth before reaching the venue for the Games.
  • For the first time in the history of the CWG, all 74 countries have got their own batons, customised as per their visions and imagination. All the batons will be united at the opening ceremony in Glasgow on July 23, 2026.
  • India's baton has been designed by renowned visual artist Aaquib Wani, who also designed India's jersey for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
  • The baton was unveiled by Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, accompanied by Indian Olympic Association president PT Usha and British High Commissioner Lindy Cameron.
  • The 2026 Commonwealth Games is scheduled from July 23- August 2 in the Scottish city. This will be the fourth time Scotland will be hosting the event, following editions in Edinburgh (1970 and 1986) and Glasgow (2014).

Women's T20 WC for Blind

  • India started their campaign on a winning note in the first-ever Women's T20 World Cup Cricket for the Blind. India defeated Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the opening match in New Delhi. Winning the toss and opting to bat first, Sri Lanka were restricted to just 41 runs in 13.3 overs.
  • In reply, India chased down the modest target comfortably reaching 43 without loss in just three overs.
  • Six teams – India, Sri Lanka, the USA, Nepal, Australia, and Pakistan – are participating in the tournament.
  • Sri Lanka and India are co-hosting the first-ever Women's T20 World Cup – Cricket for the Blind, from November 11 to 23, 2025.

S. Krishnan, Secretary, MeitY, Inaugurates 'Cyber Bharat Setu' in Tripura

  • The Directorate of Information Technology (DIT), Government of Tripura, in collaboration with the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, organised the National Cybersecurity Exercise titled 'Cyber Bharat Setu: Bridging States, Securing Bharat'.
  • The two-day workshop, from November 11 to and 12, 2025 at Pragna Bhavan, Agartala, aims to strengthen cyber awareness, readiness, and response capabilities of the State.
  • The workshop focuses on strengthening cyber resilience through expert-led training, hands-on drills and simulated scenario-based exercises. The event was inaugurated by S. Krishnan, Secretary, MeitY, Government of India.

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan Inaugurates the 'Watershed Mahotsav' in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh

  • Union Minister for Rural Development, and Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan inaugurated the 'Watershed Mahotsav' in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, on November 11, 2025. The event was organised as part of the National Watershed Conference, held from November 10–11, 2025, by the Department of Land Resources (DoLR) under the Ministry of Rural Development, in collaboration with the Government of Andhra Pradesh. Shri Chouhan will arrive in Guntur to formally launch the Mahotsav on the second day of the conference.

Indian Army Concludes 'Exercise Maru Jwala' in Jaisalmer as Part of 'Trishul' Drill

  • The Indian Army's Southern Command conducted 'Exercise Maru Jwala' in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, as part of the ongoing tri-services 'Trishul' drill, showcasing the preparedness and coordination of its elite units.
  • Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Command, described the exercise as a crucial phase of the overall Trishul operations.
  • The exercise brought together key units of the Southern Command. Exercise Maru Jwala is a very important part of the overall Exercise Trishul, which is a tri-service exercise.

Indian Air Force Concludes Exercise MahaGujRaj-25 (MGR-25)

World's First Remote Surgery

  • In a groundbreaking moment for medicine, doctors from Scotland and the United States successfully completed what's believed to be the world's first transatlantic robotic stroke procedure.
  • At the University of Dundee, Professor Iris Grunwald, a leading interventional neuroradiologist, carried out a remote thrombectomy, a minimally invasive procedure used to remove blood clots after a stroke, on a human cadaver. Grunwald, who was physically based at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, operated a robotic system connected to a body located in another facility miles away.
  • Just hours later, Dr. Ricardo Hanel, a neurosurgeon based in Jacksonville, Florida, used the same technology to perform the world's first transatlantic remote surgery on a human cadaver in Dundee, over 4,000 miles (6,400 km) away.
  • Both procedures were powered by robotic systems developed by the Lithuanian firm Sentante, with connectivity support from tech giants Nvidia and Ericsson. The team has described the experiment as a potential "game changer" that could redefine how stroke care is delivered worldwide.

  • In a historic achievement for gender equality and the global tourism sector, Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais became the first-ever woman to lead UN Tourism. Her appointment was confirmed during the 123rd UN Tourism Executive Council session in Segovia, Spain, and will be formally ratified by the UN General Assembly.
