World's First White Iberian Lynx Spotted In Spain

  • A white Iberian lynx, believed to be the first of its kind ever documented, was spotted in the mountains of Jaén in southern Spain. The sighting of the rare, leucistic wildcat is celebrated as a landmark success for the conservation of the Iberian lynx, a species once on the verge of extinction. A video captured by Spanish wildlife photographer Angel Hidalgo shows a lynx with an unusually pale, cream-coloured coat, while retaining the typical features of its species -- sharp eyes, dark ear tufts, and the signature facial ruff.

  • Senior civil servant Sanjay Garg of the IAS 1994 batch (Kerala cadre) assumed charge as Director General (DG) of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in  November 2025. This appointment placed him at the helm of India's national standards body, with additional responsibility as the President of India's national committee in the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
  • Sanjay Garg brings over 30 years of administrative experience covering strategic planning, policy formulation and implementation across sectors such as agriculture, food logistics, defence industry, industrial promotion, finance and social sectors.

Amul & IFFCO Dominate Global Cooperative List

  • India's cooperative sector made a historic mark on the global stage with Amul (GCMMF) and IFFCO ranked first and second, respectively in the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) World Cooperative Monitor 2025. This recognition affirms India's leadership in cooperative governance and its role in driving inclusive growth, rural development, and food security. The rankings were unveiled at the ICA CM50 Conference in Doha, Qatar, reinforcing India's rising influence in global cooperative economics.
  • These rankings are based on how effectively cooperatives contribute to GDP, uplift communities, and adhere to cooperative principles like democratic governance, collective ownership, and profit-sharing.

Maharashtra Signs Landmark Deal with Starlink to Boost Rural Internet

  • The Maharashtra government signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Starlink, the satellite internet company led by Elon Musk, to deploy satellite-based internet services across the state. This move makes Maharashtra the first state in India to officially collaborate with the US-based internet provider.
  • Under this agreement, the state will work with Starlink to deliver reliable internet connectivity to government institutions, rural communities, and key public infrastructure. The project particularly targets remote and underserved districts like Gadchiroli, Nandurbar, Washim, and Dharashiv — areas often left behind in traditional network coverage.

Bharat Petroleum Hosts 44th PSPB Inter-Unit Lawn Tennis Tournament

  • Indian Olympians Rohan Boppana, Sumit Nagal, Ankita Raina, Prarthana Thombare, Vaishanvi Adkar, Sahaja Yamalapalli, Shrivalli Rashmika Bhamidipaty alongside Davis Cupper, Yuki Bhambri, Vishnuvardhan are amongst the top tennis players seen in action at the Bharat Petroleum-organised 44th PSPB Inter-Unit Lawn Tennis Tournament which is being held at the Deccan Gymkhana Tennis Courts in Pune from November 5 to 8, 2025.
  • Deepak Jain, Chief General Manager, Sports, Bharat Petroleum, informed that over 100 players are representing tennis teams of major oil and gas corporations such as IOCL, ONGC, MNGL, OIL, NRL, EIL, HPCL and hosts BPCL in the four-day event which is being played in the team and individual competitions in the men's, women's and veterans categories. Sameera Reddy, member secretary of PSPB and ITF White Badge referee Shiva Reddy were present on the occasion.
  • Top Indian tennis stars Rohan Bopanna, Divij Sharan, Sumit Nagal; Prarthana Thombare, Riya Bhatia and Rushmi Chakravarthi are representing the Indian Oil Corporation team.
  • Davis Cuppers Yuki Bhambri, J. Vishnu Vardhan, and VM Ranjeet are playing for the ONGC side.
  • World University Games bronze medalist Vaishnavi Adkar, Fed Cup Players Sahaja Yamalapalli, Shrivalli Rashmika Bhamidipaty, Riya Sachdeva and Anant Mani are representing hosts BPCL apart from the two-time veterans champion Raj Kumar Dubey.
  • The event is being played under the ITF rules and has internationally and nationally certified officials officiating in the events with all top tennis players in India participating.

Russia Celebrates National Unity Day

  • Russia celebrated National Unity Day on November 4, marking the anniversary of the liberation of the Kremlin from Polish invaders in 1612. On the occasion, President Vladimir Putin said that Russia is defending its sovereignty today, as it did in 1612.
  • Putin laid a wreath at the well-known statue of Merchant Kuzma Minin and Prince Dmitry Pozharsky on Red Square.
  • The National United Day was introduced in 2005 under President Putin to replace the 'Great October Socialist Revolution', which was celebrated on November 7 with historic military parades at Red Square until the collapse of the USSR.
