Former congresswoman Abigail Spanberger defeated Republican Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears in Virginia's governor race, securing a key victory for Democrats. A white Iberian lynx, believed to be the first of its kind ever documented, was spotted in the mountains of Jaén in southern Spain. The sighting of the rare, leucistic wildcat is celebrated as a landmark success for the conservation of the Iberian lynx, a species once on the verge of extinction. A video captured by Spanish wildlife photographer Angel Hidalgo shows a lynx with an unusually pale, cream-coloured coat, while retaining the typical features of its species -- sharp eyes, dark ear tufts, and the signature facial ruff.

Senior civil servant Sanjay Garg of the IAS 1994 batch (Kerala cadre) assumed charge as Director General (DG) of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in November 2025. This appointment placed him at the helm of India's national standards body, with additional responsibility as the President of India's national committee in the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).

Maharashtra Signs Landmark Deal with Starlink to Boost Rural Internet
The Maharashtra government signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Starlink, the satellite internet company led by Elon Musk, to deploy satellite-based internet services across the state. This move makes Maharashtra the first state in India to officially collaborate with the US-based internet provider.
Under this agreement, the state will work with Starlink to deliver reliable internet connectivity to government institutions, rural communities, and key public infrastructure. The project particularly targets remote and underserved districts like Gadchiroli, Nandurbar, Washim, and Dharashiv — areas often left behind in traditional network coverage.
