The Government Appointed Kalyan Kumar as Head of Central Bank of India

  • The government appointed Kalyan Kumar as head of Central Bank of India for a period of three years.
  • The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by the Prime Minister approved the appointment.
  • Kumar, currently Executive Director of Punjab National Bank (PNB), succeeded M V Rao as MD and CEO of Central Bank of India after his superannuation in July.
  • CBoI too was headless after Matam Venkat Rao superannuated as MD & CEO on July 31, 2025.

Made in India Airbus H125 Helicopter from Tata Advanced Systems Limited

  • The Tata Group, in partnership with Airbus, is launching India's first private-sector helicopter Final Assembly Line (FAL) at Vemagal in Karnataka to produce the Airbus H125 helicopter. This initiative marks a significant milestone for India's aerospace industry, as the facility will assemble, test, and deliver both civil and military versions of the H125.
  • Addressing requirements for domestic as well as South Asian export markets. The made-in-India helicopters are expected to be delivered starting in early 2027. This project will not only strengthen India's credentials as a global aviation hub but also support the development of local civil and defence aviation capabilities.

World Green Economy Summit 2025 Attracts 16 Local, Regional, International Sponsors

  • The 11th edition of the World Green Economy Summit (WGES), held under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, was sponsored and supported by 16 local, regional and global organisations.
  • This year's theme, 'Innovating for Impact: Accelerating the Future of the Green Economy', emphasises Dubai's role as a leading global centre in supporting climate action and advancing the transition towards a more resilient and inclusive low-carbon economic model.
  • Organised by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and the World Green Economy Organization (WGEO), WGES at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

5th Hockey India Senior Men Inter-Department National Championship 2025

  • The city of Jamshedpur become the heartbeat of Indian hockey as the Naval Tata Hockey Academy (NTHA) is hosting the 5th Hockey India Senior Men Inter-Department National Championship 2025, which began on 30th September and will conclude on October 10, 2025.
  • This premier national-level tournament is bringing together the powerhouses of Indian hockey, with India's top departments and institutions in action. A total of 18 elite teams was divided into four pools.

World Weightlifting Championships: Mirabai Chanu Wins Silver

  • Star Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu (48kg) clinched a silver medal at the World Championships in the 48kg category, extending her glittering record in the marquee event where she has been on the podium twice earlier.
  • The 2017 world champion and 2022 silver-medallist produced a total lift of 199kg (84kg in snatch + 115kg in clean and jerk) to be among the medal winners after moving down from the 49kg division.

BRO Scripts History in Ladakh; Surpasses its Own Guinness World Record for Highest Motorable Road

  • The Border Roads Organisation's 'Project Himank' once again created history by surpassing its own Guinness World Record for the highest motorable road.
  • The connectivity from Likaru to Mig La pass and further to Fukche village is of immense strategic and infrastructural significance, serving as the third vital axis from the Hanle sector to the border village of Fukche near the Indo-China border.
  • The BRO has been instrumental in connecting some of the world's highest mountain passes, with 11 out of the 14 highest motorable passes globally built by it.

Chandra Sekhara Reddy Appointed National Advisor, EESL

  • In a significant move to further accelerate India's energy efficiency and conservation drive, Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture of Public Sector Undertakings under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, appointed A. Chandra Sekhara Reddy as its National Advisor for Government Affairs & Media.
  • With this appointment, Mr. Reddy will play a key role in shaping EESL's outreach and stakeholder engagement strategy, strengthening its presence at both national and global forums, and ensuring effective communication of the organization's mission of promoting sustainable energy practices.

Pandit Chhannulal Mishra Passes Away at 89

  • Pandit Chhannulal Mishra, a doyen of Hindustani classical music and Padma Vibhushan recipient, passed away at the Mirzapur home of his daughter Namrata Mishra following a prolonged illness in October 2025. He was 89.

Jane Goodall: The Scientist Who Gave Chimps Names, Not Numbers

  • Jane Goodall, a primatologist and ethologist known worldwide for chronicling the life of chimpanzees in East Africa, died in October 2025, at the age of 91. Goodall died of natural causes in Los Angeles while on a speaking tour of the U.S. 
  • Goodall's films and books reshaped primatology and public understanding alike. In her later years, she became a champion of conservation and climate action. She was honoured as a Dame in 2003 and with the U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2025.

  • Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw launched the NIELIT Digital University (NDU) platform in October 2025. Along with this, he also opened five new NIELIT centres in Odisha, Muzaffarpur (Bihar), Daman, Mizoram, and Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh).
  • The new NIELIT Digital University started to make digital education available to every student, whether they live in cities, villages, or remote areas. The online platform will offer various industry-based courses and training programs to help young people build careers in the growing digital economy.

HelpAge India Launches Campaign to Promote Active Life for Senior Citizens

  • HelpAge India, a non-profit organisation working for elders, marked International Day of Older Persons in October 2025, launched its new campaign, 'AdvantAge60: Powering Aspirations – Active, Enabled & Empowered', to redefine ageing and promote active, meaningful engagement for senior citizens.
  • The event, held in Chennai, was attended by Justice N. Kirubakaran, former Judge of the Madras High Court, and V. Balakrishnan, IPS, Inspector General of Police (Administration), along with academics and social welfare officials.

  • Air India in October 2025, inaugurated India's first non-stop flight to the Philippines, the company.
