Ahmed al-Sharaa to Becomes First Syrian Leader to Attend UN Meetings Since 1967

  • For the first time in nearly six decades, a Syrian head of state is set to speak at the United Nations.
  • President Ahmed al-Sharaa arrived in New York to attend the opening of the UN General Assembly's 80th session in 2025, marking Syria's return to the world stage after years of isolation and war.
  • The last time a Syrian head of state attended the General Assembly was in 1967. That was before the 50-year rule of the Assad family dynasty, which came to an end in December when then-President Bashar Assad was ousted in a lightning insurgent offensive led by al-Sharaa. Assad's fall also brought to an end nearly 14 years of civil war.

  • According to Colliers' latest "Investment Insights H1 2025" report, released in September 2025.
  • Global real estate investment stayed strong in the first half of 2025 despite slower economic growth.
  • Colliers' "Global Capital Flows" report shows the United States remained the top destination for cross-border capital into standing assets, attracting $24.3 billion over 12 months.
  • The UK followed with $22.1 billion, while Australia ($13.8 billion) and Poland ($10.9 billion) performed strongly, with Poland beating its five-year average.

IISc and Delta Electronics India Develops Fast Charging Solutions for EVs

  • Researchers in the Department of Electrical Engineering (EE) at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru and Delta Electronics India developed a new fast charging solution for Electric Vehicles (EVs).
  • This novel cascaded H-bridge (CHB)-based multi-port DC converter directly connects to the medium-voltage AC (MVAC) electricity grid.
  • Besides, it eliminates the need for large and expensive line frequency transformers (LFTs), which conventional charging stations rely on.
  • These stations (conventional) also have multiple conversion stages involving stepping up or down current, or converting AC to DC, and vice versa.
  • This can greatly increase cost and reduce efficiency, according to IISc.

Satwik-Chirag Pair Finishes Runner-up at China Masters 2025

  • Indian men's doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty finished runner-up at a BWF World Tour event for the second week in a row, losing to World No. 1 Kim Won-ho and Seo Seung-jae in the China Masters Super 750's final in Shenzhen in 2025.
  • Koreans Kim and Seo, the reigning world champions, defeated the eighth-seeded Indian duo 21-19, 21-15 in 45 minutes.

India Hosts 62nd National Chess Championship at Vignan University

  • Dronacharya Awardee Koneru Ashok inaugurated the 62nd National Chess Championship held at Vignan University in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh in 2025.
  • The event is being organised under the aegis of the Andhra Chess Association (ACA) and the All India Chess Federation (AICF) and conclude on 1st October.

The 28th National Conference on e-Governance

  • The Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances (DARPG) and the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), in collaboration with the State Government of Andhra Pradesh, organised the 28th National Conference on e- Governance (NCeG) on September 22–23, 2025, in Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
  • The theme for this year's (2025) conference is 'Viksit Bharat: Civil Service and Digital Transformation.' 
  • The two-day conference was inaugurated by N. Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, and Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Earth Sciences. The two-day event was also graced by the presence of Pawan Kalyan, Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and N. Lokesh, Minister for IT, Human Resources Development of Andhra Pradesh. 
  • The Conference featured 6 plenary sessions and 6 breakout sessions. Overall, about 70 speakers from diverse backgrounds shared their experiences and present the best practices on a wide range of sub-themes.

Rajnath Singh Inaugurates India's First Overseas Defence Factory in Morocco

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited Morocco in September 2025, where he held bilateral talks and inaugurated India's first overseas Defence manufacturing facility in Casablanca. 
  • Rajnath Singh led a delegation to launch the Tata Advanced Systems Ltd (TASL) plant, established in partnership with Morocco's Royal Armed Forces.
  • The facility will initially assemble Wheeled Armoured Platform 8x8 vehicles for Moroccan forces, with plans to expand production for the larger African market.

Establishment of 10th Assam Police Battalion Approved by Cabinet

  • The State cabinet approved the establishment of the 10th Assam Police battalion at Sonapure near Guwahati at a cost of Rs. 260 crore.
  • The meeting, held in September 2025, also approved a 20% bonus to workers of tea gardens under the Assam Tea Corporation on the occasion of Durga Puja.
  • Besides, the cabinet cleared the setting up of question papers of the Combined Competitive (Preliminary) Examination (CCE) to be conducted by the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) in both English and Assamese languages, to remove the language barrier for candidates, especially from rural and vernacular backgrounds.
