Thailand's Anutin Charnvirakul was elected Prime Minister after breezing through a parliamentary vote, trouncing the candidate of the Shinawatra family's once-dominant ruling party to end a week of chaos and political deadlock.
With the decisive backing of the opposition, Anutin easily passed the threshold of more than half of the lower house votes required to become premier, capping off days of drama and a scramble for power during which he outmanoeuvred the most successful political party in Thailand's history.
Maharashtra Approves Longer Working Hours in Private Sector
The Maharashtra cabinet, led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has approved amendments to labour laws that will increase the maximum daily working hours for private sector employees. This decision, aimed at attracting investments, creating jobs, and protecting workers' rights, aligns Maharashtra with states such as Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, and Tripura, which have already adopted similar reforms.
Union Cabinet Approves Scheme to Promote Critical Mineral Recycling in Country
The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved a Rs. 1,500 crore Incentive Scheme to develop recycling capacity in the country for the separation and production of critical minerals from secondary sources.
This scheme is part of the National Critical Mineral Mission (NCMM), which is aimed at building the domestic capacity of and supply chain resilience in critical minerals.
The Scheme will have a tenure of six years from FY 2025-26 to FY 2030-31.
Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and ICICI Bank Join Hands to Boost Startups
In a significant move to nurture the startup ecosystem, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ICICI Bank to extend targeted support to DPIIT-recognised startups across India. The partnership, formalized in September 2025, is hosted under the Startup India initiative and is designed to offer startups a structured engagement programme involving accelerator access, mentorship, pilot opportunities, and ecosystem integration.
Under this MoU, ICICI Bank will launch a comprehensive Startup Engagement Programme that will be hosted on the Startup India portal. The programme will be aligned with Startup India's broader communication and outreach efforts to ensure widespread visibility and participation.

Sakshi continued India's fine start to the World Boxing Championships, outclassing her Ukrainian opponent in the women's 54 kg category in the opening round in Liverpool.
Sakshi secured a win over her Ukrainian opponent by 5-0 via RSC (Referee Stopped Contest), as per the Boxing Federation of India (BFI).
Earlier, Pawan Bartwal provided India a winning start to their World Boxing Championships campaign as he got the better of Brazil's Michael Douglas Trindade, a Paris Olympian, in a close men's 55kg bout in Liverpool, UK.
World Archery Championships 2025: Deepika Kumari, Jyothi Surekha Vennam lead Indian contingent in Gwangju
Olympian Deepika Kumari and compound ace Jyothi Surekha Vennam are among 12 Indian players taking part in the 53rd edition of the World Archery Championships 2025 being held from September 5 to 12, 2025 in Gwangju, South Korea.
The World Archery Championships were first held in 1931.
Exactly 500 archers from 74 countries and territories are vying for the tag of world champions in Gwangju.
This year's championships feature men's and women's events across team, mixed team and individual formats.
India's Suruchi Singh Tops ISSF 10m Air Pistol Rankings
Young shooter from India, Suruchi Singh, became the World No. 1 in the women's 10m air pistol rankings, which was released by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF).
After making her senior international debut earlier this year, the 19-year-old Suruchi Singh achieved the No. 1 ranking in the 10m air pistol, having accumulated 4162 points.
Former junior world champion Yao Qianxun of the People's Republic of China took second spot in the category, having amassed 3195 points. China's Wei Qian is third with 2178 points.

Piyush Goyal Assumes Charge as Mines Secretary
In a key administrative appointment, Piyush Goyal, a 1994-batch IAS officer of the Nagaland cadre, has officially assumed charge as the Secretary of the Ministry of Mines as of September 2025. His appointment follows the transfer of Shri V.L. Kantha Rao, who is now serving as Secretary in the Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation.
The defence ministry spelt out acquisition plans worth several hundred billion dollars that include nuclear propulsion for surface ships, next-generation tanks, stealth unmanned combat aerial vehicles, hypersonic missiles, laser-based weapons and a range of drone and anti-drone systems.
The detailed plans, which list out the quantities and capabilities of over 200 individual weapon systems and technologies required by the armed forces over the next 15 years, will be of great value for the defence industry on where to direct research and development efforts.
Kerala's First Woman Forensic Surgeon Dr. Sherly Vasu Passes Away
Dr. Sherly Vasu, Kerala's first woman forensic surgeon and renowned scholar in forensic medicine, died at the age of 68.
In a career spanning 35 years in Kerala's medical education sector, Dr Sherly had conducted more than 20,000 autopsies.
After retiring as head of forensic medicine at Thrissur government medical college in 2016, Sherly has been serving as the head of forensic medicine at a private medical college KMCT in Kozhikode.

Medical Commission Approves 190 New MBBS Seats in 5 Government Colleges of J&K
The National Medical Commission (NMC) granted approval for 190 additional MBBS seats across five government medical colleges in Jammu and Kashmir.
The latest approval includes 50 seats each for Government Medical Colleges in Baramulla, Doda, and Kathua, while Government Medical College Jammu and Government Medical College Srinagar have received 20 seats each. With this enhancement, the overall MBBS intake capacity across government colleges in the Union Territory has risen from 1,185 to 1,375 seats.

Centre Clears Appointment of Justice Shree Chandrashekhar as Chief Justice of Bombay High Court
The Central government cleared the appointment of Justice Shree Chandrashekhar as Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.
Justice Chandrashekhar began his legal practice in Delhi, handling both criminal and civil matters. Over his 19 years of advocacy, he appeared in approximately 3,500 cases, primarily before the Supreme Court of India, and was involved in around 140 reported Supreme Court judgments.
He served as Standing Counsel for the All India Council for Technical Education and the State of Jharkhand in the Supreme Court. He also represented bodies such as the Bihar State Housing Board, Bihar State Pollution Control Board, Jharkhand State Electricity Board and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research along with various corporations and private companies.
