SBI and AFD Sign Euro 100 Million Line of Credit to Boost Green Financing in India

  • State Bank of India signed a Line of Credit agreement of EUR 100 million with Agence Francaise de Developpement (AFD) at its GIFT City branch.
  • As per reports, the funds mobilised through this partnership will be utilised in Climate Mitigation Actions aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions to slow down global warming and climate adaptation measures designed to adjust systems, practices, and infrastructure to minimise the damage caused by current or anticipated impacts of climate change.
  • The partnership is a strategic step towards SBI's goal of achieving a green portfolio constituting 7.5-10 per cent of its domestic gross advances by 2030.

Nestlé Dismisses its CEO

  • Swiss food giant Nestlé said dismissed its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Laurent Freixe.
  • The maker of Nescafé drinks and Purina pet food said that the dismissal was effective immediately. An investigation found the undisclosed romantic relationship with a direct subordinate violated Nestlé's code of conduct.
  • Freixe, who had been CEO for a year, will be replaced by Philipp Navratil, a long-time Nestlé executive.

India Opens First Mobile Tempered Glass Factory

  • Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated India's first Tempered Glass Manufacturing Facility for Mobile Devices at Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The facility has been set up by Optiemus Electronics in collaboration with Corning Incorporated, USA, and will produce high-quality tempered glass under the globally recognised brand "Engineered by Corning". The products will be supplied to both domestic and international markets.

Tiny Computer to Aid India's Hunt for Cosmic Dawn Signals

  • A compact single-board computer (SBC), no larger than a credit card, is poised to play a pivotal role in unlocking secrets of the Cosmic Dawn—the epoch when the first stars and galaxies began illuminating the universe. Developed by the Raman Research Institute (RRI), Bengaluru, this breakthrough is part of India's proposed PRATUSH mission to the Moon, aiming to detect one of the faintest radio signals ever observed.
  • PRATUSH (Probing ReionizATion of the Universe using Signal from Hydrogen) can help detect a faint radio signal emitted from hydrogen atoms (21-cm signal), which carries imprints of several events of the Cosmic Dawn. Capturing this signal is like hearing a whisper in a stadium full of noise because it is buried under interference, millions of times stronger than the signal itself.

Satwik-Chirag Secure Worlds Medal with Redemption Win

  •  Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty clinched bronze at the 2025 BWF World Championships in Paris (the 29th edition), becoming the first Indian doubles pair to win two World Championships medals. Their run ended in the semi-finals against China's Chen Bo Yang and Liu Yi, with the Indians losing 19-21, 21-18, 12-21.
  • The gold medal was won by South Korea's Kim Won-ho and Seo Seung-jae.

West Delhi Lions Clinch DPL Title

  • The West Delhi Lions lifted the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025 title by ousting Central Delhi Kings with a comfortable six-wicket victory in a high-octane final at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Skipper Nitish Rana once again rose to the occasion, delivering a match-winning unbeaten 79 guiding his side to glory.

Yamaguchi Akane Clinches Her Third Global Crown

  • Japan's Yamaguchi Akane clinched her third global crown with a dominant 21-9, 21-13 win over Olympic gold medallist Chen Yufei at the BWF World Championships 2025 in Paris.
  • Yamaguchi added to her badminton world titles from 2021 and 2022, becoming only the second woman behind Carolina Marin to own three global crowns.

Scindia Launches AI-powered App for India Mobile Congress 2025

  • Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia launched an AI-powered mobile application for the upcoming India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025, terming the platform a gateway to connections, collaborations and outcomes.
  • The 9th edition of IMC, themed 'Innovate to Transform', will be held from October 8-11 at the Yashobhoomi Convention Centre in Dwarka, New Delhi.
  • The app comes with real-time features including live streaming of sessions, AI-driven personalised recommendations, networking tools for startups and participants, and a built-in chatbot for instant event assistance. It also offers short AI-generated video highlights, live polls, contests, and an interactive photo booth.

PM Modi Returns after Japan-China Visit, Attends SCO Summit

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned to New Delhi after a four-day visit to Japan and China from August 29 to September 1.
  • Addressing the 25th SCO Summit in Tianjin, China, the Prime Minister called for stronger measures against terror financing and radicalisation. Referring to the Pahalgam terror attack, he urged the SCO to hold nations supporting cross-border terrorism accountable. He also congratulated Kyrgyzstan on assuming the SCO presidency.
  • The Summit discussions covered the SCO Development Strategy, global governance reform, counter-terrorism, peace and security, economic and financial cooperation, and sustainable development. Modi outlined India's vision of enhancing collaboration under three pillars – Security, Connectivity, and Opportunity.

India Launches Adi Vaani: AI Translator for Tribal Languages

  • The government launched the Beta Version of Adi Vaani which is India's first AI powered translator for tribal languages. The Ministry of Tribal Affairs said that this translation tool is a step toward inclusive tribal empowerment and preservation of India's rich linguistic diversity. Adi Vaani is developed under Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh to bridge communication gaps between tribal and non-tribal communities. The project combines advanced AI technologies to protect and promote the tribal culture across India. This initiative strengthens India's constitutional values of cultural diversity, positioning the nation as a global leader in AI-driven preservation of endangered languages.

  • An Indian Army contingent is in Fort Wainwright, Alaska, USA, participating in the 21st edition of the India-USA Joint Military Exercise Yudh Abhyas 2025, being held from September 1 to 14, 2025.
  • The Indian contingent, comprises personnel from a battalion of the Madras Regiment, are training alongside soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment "Bobcats" of the Arctic Wolves Brigade Combat Team, 11th Airborne Division of the USA.

National Nutrition Week

  • National Nutrition Week is celebrated every year from September 1 to 7 in India. Organised by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and Ministry of Women & Child Development, this campaign aims to educate people, especially young students—about the value of balanced diets and good nutrition habits. Schools across the country celebrate the week with several interactive and creative activities.
  • The roots of National Nutrition Week trace back to 1975, when it began as a campaign by the American Dietetic Association, which later inspired health departments around the world. India adopted this important observance in 1982, led by the Food and Nutrition Board under the Ministry of Women & Child Development.
  • The theme for National Nutrition Week 2025 is 'Eat Right for a Better Life' highlights the importance of healthy eating for students and families in India.

Educate Girls Wins 2025 Ramon Magsaysay Award

  • Educate Girls, officially known as the Foundation to Educate Girls Globally, achieved a historic feat by becoming the first Indian organisation to win the Ramon Magsaysay Award, one of Asia's most prestigious honours. The award recognises the NGO's relentless efforts in transforming the educational landscape for out-of-school girls in India's remotest regions.
  • Founded in 2007 by Safeena Husain, a graduate of the London School of Economics, Educate Girls was born out of a mission to tackle female illiteracy in India. Husain left her corporate career in San Francisco and returned to India with a single-minded focus: to bring every girl child into school.
  • Starting in the desert villages of Rajasthan, Educate Girls identified communities most resistant to girls' education. The NGO's grassroots model led to:
  • Enrolment and retention of over 2 million girls
  • Expansion to 30,000+ villages across India
  • School retention rate exceeding 90%
  • In 2015, the NGO pioneered the world's first Development Impact Bond in education, linking investor funds to measurable educational outcomes. This model attracted global attention and catalysed scalable interventions in India's rural education sector.

Dr. Ambedkar National Merit Awards Ceremony 2025

  • Dr. Ambedkar Foundation, Autonomous body of Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment successfully organised Dr. Ambedkar National Merit Award Ceremony at New Delhi. The ceremony was organised to felicitate meritorious Students belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) who secured top positions in the class 10th and meritorious Students belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC) who secured top positions in the class 12th Examinations conducted by recognised State/Central Boards and Councils.
  • Total 29 State/Central Boards and Councils were taken into consideration for the years 2021-22& 2022-23. A total of 367 students were awarded from class 10, out of which 22 were toppers and a total of 563 students were awarded from class 12, out of which 49 were toppers, during the session 2021-22. However, for the Session 2022-23, a total of 198 students were awarded from class 10, out of which 17 were toppers and a total of 362 students were awarded from class 12, out of which 29 were toppers.

Punjab Becomes First State to Introduce Entrepreneurship in Class 11

  • Punjab became the first state in India to embed entrepreneurship as a core subject in school education. The announcement was made by Punjab School Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, alongside Punjab AAP Incharge Manish Sisodia.
  • The new subject will be offered to Class 11 students from the 2025-26 academic year.
  • The initiative is aimed at fostering an entrepreneurial mindset, encouraging students to become job creators rather than job seekers. The minister said the course will empower young minds to emerge as innovators, problem-solvers and community leaders.
  • The curriculum has been designed to be experiential and project-based rather than exam-driven. Students will form teams, generate business ideas, develop prototypes, pitch for seed funding and even launch products or services.
  • With 18 periods annually, three dedicated to theory and fifteen to project work, the structure ensures engaging lessons without adding extra pressure.

President Appoints Permanent Judges in Kerala & Allahabad HC
