Mastercard, Infosys Partner to Boost Cross-Border Payments

  • Infosys announced a partnership with Mastercard to offer financial institutions enhanced access to Mastercard Move, its portfolio of money movement capabilities.
  • The solution's seamless integration with Infosys Finacle, part of EdgeVerve Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of Infosys, will play a key role in creating an efficient pathway for financial institutions to access Mastercard Move's cross-border capabilities in a fraction of the typical implementation time and without the intensive resourcing traditionally needed for integration projects.

India's 1st Made-in-India Chip to Roll out from Sanand's CG Semi Plant

  • India's first 'made-in-India' semiconductor chip will roll out of Gujarat's CG Semi Pvt Ltd in Sanand, Information Technology (IT) Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said at the inauguration of CG Semi's pilot OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) facility.
  • The Sanand OSAT facility is the country's first end-to-end unit, the government said, developed by CG Semi, which holds a 92.3% stake. The project is in collaboration with Renesas Electronics and Stars Microelectronics, which hold around 6.8% and 0.9% equity, respectively.

PM Modi Welcomes ISRO-JAXA Collaboration for Chandrayaan-5 LUPEX Mission

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the agreement between the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) for the Chandrayaan-5 mission under the Lunar Polar Exploration (LUPEX) programme.
  • The LUPEX mission, jointly developed by ISRO and JAXA, aims to explore the moon's south pole and study its hidden resources, including water ice. Chandrayaan-5 will mark the fifth mission in India's Chandrayaan series.
  • Under LUPEX, the mission will be launched onboard JAXA's H3-24L rocket, carrying an ISRO-built lunar lander equipped with a Japanese rover. ISRO will also provide several scientific instruments for the mission.
  • Chandrayaan-5/LUPEX is expected to be a major milestone in India's long-term lunar roadmap, which envisions Indian astronauts landing on the Moon by 2040.

Centre Clears India's 2030 CWG Bid

  • The Union Cabinet approved the submission of India's bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games (CWG), marking a significant step in the country's growing ambition to stage major international sporting events. Alongside the bid, the Cabinet also sanctioned the signing of a Host Collaboration Agreement and assured grant-in-aid to the Gujarat government if the bid is accepted.
  • Ahmedabad has been earmarked as the host city, with officials highlighting its world-class infrastructure, training facilities, and sporting culture. The Narendra Modi Stadium, the largest in the world, has already showcased its capacity to host global events, most notably the the ICC men's World Cup in 2023.

National Squash Championship: Velavan Senthilkumar & Anahat Singh Clinch Titles

  • Top seed Anahat Singh completed a hat-trick of titles by winning the women's singles event at the National Squash Championship 2025 in New Delhi.
  • The 81st edition of India's senior National Squash Championship was held from August 23 to 28.
  • Anahat Singh, India's highest-ranked women's squash player in the world, defeated second seed Akansha Salunkhe 3-0 (11-7, 11-6, 11-4) in the final at the Major Dhyan Chand Stadium.
  • In the men's draw, Velavan Senthilkumar reclaimed the title with a hard-fought 3-1 (11-8, 11-9, 4-11, 11) 8 victory over last year's champion Abhay Singh. Senthilkumar had lost to Abhay Singh in the previous final in Mumbai last year.
  • The 2025 edition, hosted in the capital for the first time in seven years, was contested only in singles.

Diamond League Final 2025 Javelin

  • Neeraj Chopra ended second in the Diamond League final with a best throw of 85.01m. Chopra threw three "no-mark" attempts on the trot in the middle and it was only his final throw of 85.01m that helped him secure second spot ahead of Keshorn Walcott. The winner was Germany's Julian Weber, who threw the javelin over 91 metres.

India, Canada Hit Reset, Name New Envoys

  • Almost ten months after India and Canada expelled each other's High Commissioners in a tit-for-tat move, both countries announced their new envoys. The development came two months after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney agreed on the early return of High Commissioners as part of the constructive steps to restore stability.
  • New Delhi named Dinesh Patnaik, a 1990-batch Indian Foreign Service officer who is currently serving as India's ambassador to Spain, as its High Commissioner to Canada, and Ottawa named Christopher Cooter as its High Commissioner to India.

Centre Names Former RBI Governor Urjit Patel as IMF Executive Director

  • The government approved the appointment of former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor Dr. Urjit Patel as Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a three-year term.
  • Patel's appointment follows the abrupt termination of Krishnamurthy V. Subramanian's services, which ended his term about six months early. He is widely regarded as a key architect of India's inflation-targeting framework for monetary policy.
  •  A Kenyan-born Indian economist, Patel began his career at the IMF over 30 years ago. He initially worked in Washington, D.C., before moving to India in 1992 as the IMF's deputy resident representative in New Delhi.
  •  He became the 24th governor of the RBI in 2016, succeeding Raghuram Rajan. In 2018, he became the first RBI governor to resign for personal reasons, serving the shortest term since 1992.

  • Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, Pabitra Margherita, inaugurated the 5th edition of the ASEAN-India Youth Summit in Goa.
  • Over 100 young leaders from ASEAN Member States, Timor-Leste & India deliberated on the theme "Connecting the Youth: Shaping our Future".

The 7th Meeting of India-Saudi Arabia Joint Committee on Defence Cooperation

  • The 7th meeting of India-Saudi Arabia Joint Committee on Defence Cooperation (JCDC) took place in New Delhi. The meeting was co-chaired by Joint Secretary Amitabh Prasad from the Indian side and Staff Maj Gen Saad Mohammed H Alkathiri from the Saudi side.
  • Both sides reiterated their commitment to further strengthening bilateral defence cooperation and expressed happiness on the execution of most of the significant decisions taken during the previous JCDC meeting. With a view to strengthen defence ties and explore new avenues of collaboration, the two countries held discussions in areas such as training cooperation, industrial partnerships, maritime cooperation & military exercises.
  • The two sides discussed their respective training capabilities and requirements. India offered to provide training to the Saudi Armed Forces and discussed cooperation in Cyber, IT, disaster management & tactical communication.

Prize Distribution Ceremony of 35th National Youth Parliament Competition

  • The Prize Distribution Function of the 35th National Youth Parliament Competition, 2024–25 for Kendriya Vidyalayas was held at the GMC Balayogi Auditorium, Parliament Library Building, Parliament House Complex, New Delhi.
  • Ms. Bansuri Swaraj, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), presided over the function as Chief Guest and distributed prizes to Kendriya Vidyalayas and students for their meritorious performance.
  • This year, the Competition was held among 175 Kendriya Vidyalayas across 25 regions, with regional winners competing at the Zonal / National levels.
  • The "Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Running Parliamentary Shield" and the National Trophy for standing first at the National Level in the 35th Competition was awarded to Kendriya Vidyalaya, ONGC Srikona (Silchar Region, East Zone). On this occasion, the winning school presented a repeat performance of their Youth Parliament sitting, which was highly appreciated by the gathering.
  • Besides, Zonal Winner Trophies were awarded to the following Kendriya Vidyalayas:
    Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kathua (Jammu Region) – North Zone

Bihar Cabinet Clears 'Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana' to boost women's employment

  • In a progressive step towards women empowerment and economic inclusion, the Bihar government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, approved the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana. The scheme aims to promote self-employment among women through financial assistance and infrastructural support, helping improve livelihoods and reduce out-migration.
  • At the core of the scheme is the provision of ₹10,000 as initial financial aid to one woman per family in Bihar. This amount will be directly transferred to the beneficiary's bank account via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), ensuring transparency and timely disbursal.
