SECI Receives Bid for Supply of Green Ammonia at Rs 55.75/kg

  • In a boost to India's National Green Hydrogen Mission, the first-ever auction conducted by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) Ltd for the procurement of green ammonia achieved a record low price discovery of Rs. 55.75 per kg.
  • This auction covered the supply of 75,000 metric tonnes (MT) per annum of green ammonia to Paradeep Phosphates Limited, Odisha. It is the first in a planned series of 13 auctions over the coming months, under a tender meant for aggregating a cumulative procurement capacity of 7.24 lakh MT per year.
  • The discovered price Rs. 55.75 per kg translates to approximately $641 per MT, a substantial drop from the previously discovered price of Rs. 100.28 per kg ($1,153 per MT) in the H2Global auction in 2024.

Youth Leaders' Roundtable Conference Chaired by Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya

  • The Observer Research Foundation (ORF) is organising a visit of a Young Leaders' Delegation from Nepal comprising 10-12 members representing various political parties of Nepal from August 3 to 12, 2025. The visit spans New Delhi, Pune and Mumbai, aimed at fostering greater political and youth-level engagement.
  • As part of this visit, a Youth Leaders' Roundtable Conference was organised by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India, in partnership with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS), Government of India and Observer Research Foundation (ORF) in New Delhi. The Roundtable Conference was chaired by the Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, and attended by young Members of Parliament from India, who interacted with the Nepali Young Leaders' Delegation.
  • The Roundtable Conference centred on the theme 'The Role of Youth Exchanges and Sports in Indo-Nepal Bilateral Relations', and provided a vibrant platform for dialogue between emerging political leaders of both nations.

World Biofuel Day

  • Every year World Biofuel Day is observed on the 10th of August.
  • World Biofuel Day is observed to honour Sir Rudolf Diesel for his research experiments. In the year 1983, he successfully ran a diesel engine with the help of peanut oil by predicting that vegetable oil would replace fossil fuels in the next century to fuel various mechanical engines. Biofuel was an innovative discovery as it created a renewable energy source and sustainable alternative to fossil fuels.

  • The first recipient of the newly instituted award is Dr. Arenare, a Nigerian scientist honoured for his transformative work in reducing hunger in Nigeria.

Punjab To Become First State to Empanel Sign Language Experts under Juvenile Justice Act

  • In a move to make the judicial system more inclusive, the Punjab government will become the first state in India to formally empanel sign language interpreters, translators, and special educators under the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015. The initiative will also extend to cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
  • The announcement was made by Baljit Kaur, Punjab's Minister for Social Security. The decision aims to bridge communication gaps and strengthen access to justice and rights for children with speech or hearing impairments.
