The controversial move allows Bukele to seek an additional term beyond that previously allowed under the country's Constitution.
The constitutional amendment passed by President Bukele's ruling New Ideas Party, which holds a majority in Congress, paved the way for indefinite presidential re-election, increases term lengths from five to six years, and eliminates runoff elections.
Deendayal Port Authority Commissions First 'Make in India' 1 Megawatt-scale Green Hydrogen Plant at Kandla
In a historic milestone towards India's clean energy transition, Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla, commissioned the country's first "Make-in-India" 1 Megawatt Green Hydrogen Plant at Kandla.
The plant was inaugurated by Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, in the presence of Shantanu Thakur, Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, T.K. Ramachandran, Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sushil Kumar Singh, IRSME, Chairman, Deendayal Port Authority, senior officials of Port and L&T.
With this commissioning, DPA became the first port in India to operationalise a Make-In-India Megawatt-scale Green Hydrogen facility, capable of producing approximately 140 metric tonnes of green hydrogen annually.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced a significant relaxation in its rules governing how much banks and non-banking financial companies (NBFCs), together referred to as regulated entities (REs), can invest in Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs).
Under the new framework, the RBI capped the cumulative investment exposure of all REs in an AIF scheme at 20% of the scheme's corpus. Additionally, the investment by any single RE is capped at 10% of the scheme's corpus.

Elon Musk-led Starlink received a licence to launch satellite service in India, and a framework for spectrum allocation is also in place for a smooth rollout, Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said.
Along with Starlink, Bharti Group-backed Eutelsat OneWeb and Jio SES are also awaiting spectrum allocation to roll out their satcom services.

World Athletics Introduces New Eligibility Regulations for Female Category
The World Athletics Council announced a significant change in its eligibility rules for the female category in world ranking competitions. Starting September 1, 2025, all athletes wishing to participate in the female category will be required to undergo a once-in-a-lifetime SRY gene test, a reliable biological marker for determining sex.
The SRY gene (Sex-determining Region Y) test will be conducted through a cheek swab or blood test, whichever is more convenient for the athlete. The test will be administered under the supervision of Member Federations, ensuring authenticity and compliance.

India and Morocco signed a Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote cooperation in judicial and legal spheres. The agreements aim to reinforce institutional linkages, facilitate legal modernisation, and deepen mutual understanding between the two countries.
The MLAT focuses on civil and commercial matters, enabling both countries to cooperate in the service of judicial documents, the taking of evidence through Letters of Request, and the execution of judicial judgments, decrees, settlements, and arbitral awards.

Pramilatai Medhe, former Pramukh Sanchalika of the Rashtra Sevika Samiti, passed away at the age of 97 in Nagpur. A stalwart of the women's wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), she was known for her tireless dedication to nation-building and service. Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat expressed sorrow over her demise, describing her as a "living example of unwavering commitment, tireless work, and deep affection in conduct."
She was the fourth sanchalika of the organisation.

IIT Roorkee announced the launch of a new postgraduate certification course in AI-enabled Digital Marketing and MarTech, in collaboration with edtech firm Futurense Technologies.
This six-month programme is touted as India's first full-stack, no-code AI marketing certification tailored specifically for working professionals.
One of the key highlights of this course is that it does not require prior coding experience.
To bridge the knowledge gap, participants will first undergo a Futurense Bridge Course, a pre-course foundation module that introduces prompt engineering, no-code AI workflows, and integration tools essential for modern marketing.
IIT Kanpur Professor Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi Appointed as BHU Vice Chancellor
IIT Kanpur professor Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi was appointed as Vice Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University. Prof. Chaturvedi has served as Director of IIT Roorkee (2017-2022), Director of the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla (Jan 2017-August 2018), and Director of IIT Mandi (July 2020- Jan 2022). He has previously headed the Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Kanpur, and has also held the posts of Dean of Research and Development and Deputy Director at the institute.
BHU's Rector Prof. Sanjay Kumar had taken charge as acting Vice Chancellor in January 2025 after Professor Sudhir K. Jain completed his tenure.
