Kaziranga Ranks Third Globally in Tiger Density

  • Kaziranga Tiger Reserve in Assam, famous for its one-horned rhinoceros, has now made headlines for another reason – it has the third-highest tiger density in the world. This was revealed in a report on the status of tigers, released on Global Tiger Day (July 29, 2025) by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
  • As per the report, 148 tigers were recorded across the 1,307.49 sq. km reserve in 2024. This is a big jump compared to previous years.

Tesla Signs Chip Supply Deal with Samsung Electronics

  • Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that the US automaker has signed a deal to source chips from Samsung Electronics, a move expected to bolster the South Korean tech giant's loss-making contract manufacturing business.
  • The deal came as Samsung faces mounting pressure in the race to produce artificial intelligence chips, where it trails rivals such as TSMC and SK Hynix. This lag has weighed heavily on its profits and share price.

L&T Technology Services Bags $60 mn Multi-year Agreement from a US Client

  • Engineering and technology services firm L&T Technology Services (LTTS) signed a $60 million multi-year agreement with a prominent US-based provider of wireless telecommunications services.
  • This latest win marks LTTS' fourth deal exceeding $50 million in the last four consecutive quarters.
  • This strategic engagement will see LTTS delivering advanced network software development and application engineering solutions.
  • Under the terms of the agreement, LTTS will provide engineering services, including R&D lab integration, new product development, and functionality testing for the customer's network software automation platforms.

P&G Names Indian Born Shailesh Jejurikar as its President and CEO

  • Procter & Gamble appointed Shailesh Jejurikar as its next global Chief Executive Officer CEO. He will take over as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Procter & Gamble (P&G) in January 2026, joining the ranks of top Indian origin CEOs in the US such as Sundar Pichai, Satya Nadella, Shantanu Narayen, Arvind Krishna, Neal Mohan and Leena Nair.
  • Procter & Gamble appointed Shailesh Jejurikar as President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), becoming the first Indian to lead the consumer goods conglomerate effective January 1, 2026.
  • Jejurikar who joined the company in 1989, will replace Jon Moeller, according. Moeller, who was named to the top job about four years ago, will become P&G's Executive Chairman.

World University Games 2025

  • India won three medals on the final day of the World University Games as the contingent closed its campaign with a total of 12 medals at 20th place in Rhine Ruhr, Germany. India won two gold medals, five silver and five bronze medals.
  • This was a poor performance compared to the previous edition in Chengdu, China when India finished seventh in the medal tally with 26 medals in total including 11 gold, 5 silver, and 10 bronze medals.

Divya Deshmukh Wins FIDE Women's Chess World Cup 2025

  • India's rising chess star Divya Deshmukh scripted history by defeating veteran Koneru Humpy in the tiebreaks and won the FIDE Women's Chess World Cup held in Batumi, Georgia. At just 19 years old, Divya not only clinched one of the most prestigious titles in women's chess but also became India's fourth female Grandmaster (GM).
  • Divya was crowned World Junior Champion in the girls' section in 2024.
  • She was instrumental in India's gold medal win at the Chess Olympiad in Budapest, where she also bagged an individual gold.

India's Shooting League Gets International Federation Support

  • The International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) put its weight behind the upcoming Shooting League of India (SLI), a National Rifle Association of India-organised event, stating that the event was part of the ISSF's design to keep the sport in the Olympic programme.
  • Shooting has been excluded from the Commonwealth Games on multiple occasions. It was excluded from this year's (2025) World University Games, too. The withdrawal of the programme, coupled with pressure from the International Olympic Committee (IOC), has forced the world body to think outside the box.

Operation Mahadev: Indian Security Forces Neutralise Terrorists of Pahalgam Attack

  • The Indian Army, in coordination with the CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police, launched a high-intensity counter-terrorism mission codenamed Operation Mahadev in the Dara region near Dachigam National Park, Jammu and Kashmir. Acting on credible intelligence inputs about terrorist movement, security forces engaged in a fierce encounter, resulting in the elimination of three Pakistani terrorists belonging to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
  • This anti-terror drive is also linked to ongoing efforts to track down perpetrators of the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which claimed 26 lives.
  • According to SSP Srinagar G. V. Sundeep Chakravarty, the neutralised militants were all Pakistani nationals and affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). While their direct involvement in the Pahalgam attack is yet to be confirmed, investigations are ongoing to ascertain their exact role.

  • In a historic achievement blending faith, culture, and endurance, Remona Evette Pereira, a 20-year-old Catholic student from Mangalore, entered the Golden Book of World Records by performing Bharatanatyam, the ancient Indian classical dance form, continuously for 170 hours. Her extraordinary feat has set a new benchmark in the world of performing arts.

India's First Hindi-Medium MBBS College to Open

  • In a step towards promoting regional language education in medical studies, Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh is set to become home to India's first Hindi-medium MBBS college. The institution, expected to commence in the 2027–28 academic session, will offer medical education, examinations, and clinical training entirely in Hindi, making it a historic move in the country's medical education system.
  • The proposal to set up the Hindi-medium MBBS college was approved in the executive council meeting of Madhya Pradesh Medical University.
