India Secures 5-Year DAP Fertilizer Agreement with Saudi Firm Maaden

  • India and Saudi Arabia signed important long-term agreements to boost the supply of fertilisers to India. The agreements were finalised during Union Minister J. P. Nadda's three-day visit to Dammam and Riyadh. These deals aim to secure India's fertilizer needs and strengthen cooperation in health and pharmaceuticals.
  • Under the new deal, India will receive 3.1 million metric tons of Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) fertiliser annually for five years starting from 2025–26. The deal may be extended for another five years with mutual consent. This is a big rise from the 1.9 million metric tons India imported from Saudi Arabia in 2024–25.

Israel Launches Communications Satellite Dror-1

  • Israel launched the communications satellite Dror-1 into space. The satellite was developed and built by the state-run company Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI).
  • The satellite was successfully launched from the Cape Canaveral Space Launch Complex in the U.S. state of Florida aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. It was designed to meet Israel's communication needs for the next 15 years, both during routine operations and in emergencies, and will also support missions for the country's defense system.

Prasar Bharati Signs MoU to Promote Handball in India

  • Prasar Bharati signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Handball Association of India (HAI) to produce and broadcast all national and international handball events. The agreement, aimed at boosting handball's popularity in India, will help showcase the sport on DD Sports, Waves OTT, and other public broadcasting platforms.
  • The agreement was officially exchanged between Gaurav Dwivedi, CEO of Prasar Bharati, and Anandeshwar Pande, Executive Director of HAI.

Iga Swiatek Wins Wimbledon Title

  • Iga Swiatek from Poland won her first Wimbledon title beating Amanda Anisimova of the United States in just 57 minutes. The final score was 6-0, 6-0, making it one of the most one-sided women's finals in tennis history. This match was important because it added another major title to Swiatek's record and made history with a rare "double bagel" win.
  • This win gave Swiatek her sixth Grand Slam title, and her first-ever win on grass, making her the only active female player to win major titles on clay, hard, and grass courts.

  • Jannik Sinner won his first Wimbledon title by defeating two-time champion Carlos Alcaraz.   • Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary inaugurated the Trade Facilitation Conference 2025 in New Delhi. This was the first-ever conference of its kind, bringing together over 400 participants.
  • The Trade Facilitation Conference 2025 was organised by the Central Revenues Control Laboratory (CRCL) and the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC). The main focus of the conference was to explore how scientific testing, compliance standards, and modern laboratories can help make India's trade faster, safer, and easier.

Assam CM inaugurates Nation's First ever Aqua Tech Park

  • Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated India's first water technology park named 'Aqua Tech Park' established through collaborative efforts at Bagibari Sonapur.
  • The 'Aqua Tech Park' is set up by Kolong-Kapili in association with NABARD, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (CIFA), Fishery Department and Selco Foundation.
  • The park showcases advanced technologies in aquaponics, biofloc system, modern fish production, ornamental fish breeding and other innovative areas.

  • The choice of nominees reflects the BJP-led NDA government's messaging to poll-bound Kerala and West Bengal as well as a reward for ideological commitment, reclamation of indigenous narratives and nationalistic pursuits. Indian Army Launches Operation SHIVA 2025 for Amarnath Yatra Security

  • The Indian Army launched Operation SHIVA 2025 to ensure the safe and smooth conduct of the Shri Amarnath Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir. The operation involves heavy deployment of troops, modern surveillance tools, and disaster response measures. The security drive is vital due to increased threats from Pakistan-backed groups this year (2025).
  • As part of Operation SHIVA 2025, the Army has deployed over 8,500 troops along the northern and southern routes of the Yatra. This effort is in close coordination with the civil administration and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs). A multi-layered counter-terror grid, supported by advanced surveillance, has been set up to monitor any suspicious activity.

Kota Srinivasa Rao, Telugu Film Icon and Ex-Andhra MLA Passes Away

  • Veteran Telugu actor and former Andhra Pradesh MLA, Kota Srinivasa Rao, passed away at the age of 83. Rao was known for his versatility and powerful screen presence. Rao had a Telugu cinema and theatrical acting career spanning nearly four decades.
  • Rao made his debut in 1978 with the Telugu film Pranam Khareedu and went on to star in over 750 feature films across Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, and other Indian languages. Known for his exceptional range, Rao received nine prestigious Nandi Awards in categories including villain, character actor, and supporting actor.
  • In 2015, the Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri, the country's fourth-highest civilian award, for his significant contribution to Indian cinema.

Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari Passes Away

  • Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari died at the age of 82.
  • Burari achieved a historic victory in 2015 after three failed attempts and became the country's first opposition candidate to defeat an incumbent President. He was re-elected for another four-year term in 2019.
  • During his time in office, Buhari had to deal with Nigeria's worst economic crisis in decades, influenced in part by a slump in global oil prices.

JNU Hosts First Indian Knowledge Meet

  • Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar inaugurated the first annual academic conference on Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) hosted by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).
  • The conference, themed 'The Resurgence of IKS: Finding what we have, learning what we learnt,' marked a significant initiative to promote Indic traditions across disciplines.
  • The conference, organised in collaboration with the Indian Knowledge Systems Heritage Alliance (IKSHA), the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), and the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR), received over 600 extended abstracts from more than 120 institutions.
  • Of these, 100 papers were selected for presentation across 17 focused sessions based on originality, rigour, and relevance.

Gingee Fort Named UNESCO World Heritage Site

  • Gingee Fort in Tamil Nadu, was officially declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site during the 47th session of the World Heritage Committee in Paris. The fort is part of the Maratha Military Landscapes, a group of 12 forts now recognised globally for their cultural and historical value.
  • Gingee Fort, also called the 'Troy of the East', is one of the oldest and most unique forts in South India. It was the only site from Tamil Nadu in the running for the UNESCO World Heritage tag this year (2025).
